About the movie marathon story, personally, if my significant other wanted for us to watch his favourite movies together on his birthday, I would pay attention to them even if one movie was 3h long. Three LOTR extended movies together are 9h, which is fine (Harry Potter are like 19h or so, Star Wars are 25h). Take a break, eat dinner, go for a walk, then come back and watch another part of the trilogy if you don't want to watch them all at once. Or at least compromise on how many movies you would watch for that evening. Communicate. If you love and care about the person and care about their favourite things and hobbies, you would make the time for them, have the patience, and pay attention to them. The way she acted from the beginning was childish and like she doesn't even give a single care about the guy and his (birthday) wishes, and of course he became irritated, anyone would.

I used quarantine to show LoTR to one of my friends (extended editions only) via discord. She wanted to see them out of curiosity, and we set up to see each one whenever we could. I have swum through all 3 in one sitting, which is around 12:20 hours, but I would never make someone see them all in one sitting (unless they want to). So, we finished them in a month or so while dealing with schedules. She loved them.

Josh! Ringo has aggressive play issues. I adopted a 10 month old kitty who also got overly excited and started biting. Like, I could hardly pet her at all without catching teeth. I found the solution that works in an article, which, I cannot find right now. But here's what it told me to do: A) Watch the tail, if it's twitching leave them alone B) See if there are particular places where they are more comfy being petted. With my cat, for the first several months I could only pet her when she was at the foot of the bed after she woke up. Then one day I scritched the base of her tail and it was all over...she's now a cuddle bandit. C) When they bite, say 'ow' and put them on the floor and ignore them for a few seconds. The Cat Daddy has been INVALUABLE over the years for multiple cats and cat issues. Oh my word! Only 400 bucks a MONTH for FOUR KIDS?! Get a court order pronto. Not every social event needs to have alcohol, including weddings. I'm sure there would be a few people invited who would be annoyed by that, but I'd make it clear with the invitation that it would be an alcohol-free event, so they can make the choice to attend the wedding but not the reception if that what they'd prefer, or only attend part of the reception and leave early, or simply not attend if they can't go a few hours without alcohol.

I find it weird to say that she "sacrificed her whole day to be with him" because they're long term partners. I need to be doing something with my hands, be it coloring, playing a game on switch or the sims, knitting, crocheting, etc. It drives my sister CRAZY and she will pause movies if I look away and it always pissed me off bc like I am paying attention! I do the same as Sienna! Look up movie and TV shows to ruin the ending and plot while I'm watching. I have bad anxiety, and it provides me with a certain level of comfort!
Josh! Ringo has aggressive play issues. I adopted a 10 month old kitty who also got overly excited and started biting. Like, I could hardly pet her at all without catching teeth. I found the solution that works in an article, which, I cannot find right now. But here's what it told me to do:
A) Watch the tail, if it's twitching leave them alone
B) See if there are particular places where they are more comfy being petted. With my cat, for the first several months I could only pet her when she was at the foot of the bed after she woke up. Then one day I scritched the base of her tail and it was all over...she's now a cuddle bandit.
C) When they bite, say 'ow' and put them on the floor and ignore them for a few seconds. It's fine if they jump back up. Eventually they get the message: play time ends when the teeth come out.
Also JacksonGalaxyJacksonGalaxyJacksonGalaxy. The Cat Daddy has been INVALUABLE over the years for multiple cats and cat issues. He has a TH-cam channel, and I think there are episodes from the show he did on Animal Planet, 'My Cat From Hell'...there are a bunch of them around TH-cam.

Oh my word! Only 400 bucks a MONTH for FOUR KIDS?! Get a court order pronto. You will most likely get more per month AND he will have to pay for half of medical bills, braces, etc. Many states require fathers (or non-custodial parent) to also pay for half of school lunches, extra-curricular activities etc. I have 3 kids myself. I am guilty of hiding goodies for myself for late night snacks, etc. every now and then. Treat yourself! Being a single mom is harder than anyone can imagine.

If I was going to get married I'd prefer an alcohol-free wedding. Every wedding I've been to where alcohol is available at least one person feels the need to drink too much. Not the giggling red-faced sort of drunk, but the incoherent and embarrassing sort of drunk, plus there are family members of mine who struggle with addiction such as alcoholism. I'd personally hire a mixologist to make a list of mocktails including two special mocktails to represent myself and the person I've married, the staff would also be handing out soft drinks (soda), juice, flavoured waters (including sparkling), sparkling juice, teas and coffees, maybe even slurpees (slushies), and because I'm Australian I'd also have lemon lime and bitters available. Not every social event needs to have alcohol, including weddings. I'm sure there would be a few people invited who would be annoyed by that, but I'd make it clear with the invitation that it would be an alcohol-free event, so they can make the choice to attend the wedding but not the reception if that what they'd prefer, or only attend part of the reception and leave early, or simply not attend if they can't go a few hours without alcohol.

I dunno, for the movie one I really think she should have made more of an effort to care about this thing he clearly loves. I find it weird to say that she "sacrificed her whole day to be with him" because they're long term partners. It should be expected unless communicated otherwise that they're going to spend events together, esp a birthday where the entire point of the holiday is to celebrate an appreciate a person. I get not being interested, not everything is for everyone. But if she agreed to watch the trilogy with him then it's not his job to change HIS birthday plans for her. Get up, take some breaks, get food, whatever. But ignoring it 10 minutes in and not even trying was just mean.

For the wedding, a pack of 36 cans of soda is 15 bucks at sams or costco, if you get 3 of 3 types of soda, it costs 135 bucks. Thats 324 cans of soda. Certainly a less expensive and viable option, buuuuut.... I hardly blame them particularly. it's their choice.

LOTR story. I'd rather my significant other tell me they weren't interested than sit there on their phone. Personally if they are on their phone for 9 hours instead of watching than they are not there, I wouldn't feel as though they were present. I'd much rather have done something else or watched with another person than spend 9 hours of my birthday basically feeling alone. Heck I'd rather spend my birthday alone than have someone there but not present. But that's just me.

The people on the wedding story are totally NTA because it’s their wedding. On top of that, if people can’t only drink water for a couple hours I’m concerned for them. No one needs pop to survive, water is completely fine, and not having alcohol is something I insanely respect and will be having for my wedding! Imo you’re childish if you seriously can’t suck it up and drink water for a single night. No one needs alcohol to have fun. It would make me insanely uncomfortable to be around drinking and/or drunk people.

23:41 - both suck in this case. I think the girlfriend sucks because she said she’d watch the movies with him and just proceeded to not seem interested in them at all. The boyfriend sucks because how he responded was not healthy and seemed like he was being pissy cause he couldn’t get what he wanted. They both should’ve communicated what they wanted to do clearly and define the rules (ie, no phones while watching movies with the excepsean being between movies or he’s changing the discs if it’s the physical copies). They should also communicate what they should expect going forward if the have a marathon of movies or tv shows so they don’t act like children.
From personal experience, my fiancé and I don’t mind if we are on our phones or drinking while watching our favorite movies (including LOTR trilogy), we just don’t have our phones on loud so we can’t hear the movie. She’s not a fan of parks and Rec and I’m not a fan of the crown, but when we have it on and we’re watching it, we both aren’t mad the other is on their phone cause we are just happy being with each other. And that rule was day one.

Hate to tell ya this but programming is a little easier to learn for women. It's just another language and women have a bigger part of their brain power devoted to language/communication. I love you guys but your intros are NOT great and I always skip to the first story rather than have my ears m*rdered by the intro song or endure the immediate disorientation of an obnoxiously spliced in cold open. I understand those have become "obligatory" trends for podcast'y channels to feel properly podcast'y but I'd rather skip an entire video if I could not easily skip those intros..
