    For the second story... He should give her space. The family don't know how much the husband shared with this horrible person. Did he talk about the family routine, Where the wife's family lives? Did he left his phone unattended at some point so this man could go through it? I mean, they have to cover any trail. Someone who does something like what he did to that girl is capable of anything. The family don't know if this "new friend" is giving some kind of BS saying he's not that person, or he's "reform", or that he didn't know he was her husband... and then asking how everything's going and getting information straight out of him. Now what's important is to protect her, and yes, at all cost

    By far one of the best episodes yet!! Thanks guys. This is why I listen. I love how you guys create a good storyline for us to listen to. You give opinions but don’t take too long before delving back in. This Day in History was a great one too. Some podcasters just read random Reddit rants about silly typical drama that’s a waste of breath and time. These were fantastic reads. Thank you again.

    Some advice for the second story. He should just give her as much space as she needs. Something like that can send a person into a deep spiral of pain and trauma. And yes I feel for him but you have to understand that she went through the worst of the worst and the guy still didn’t go to jail. Id just say give her time and if she decides to talk to him than great but if not he should just make his peace and try to move on. Because for all we know she’ll never be able to trust him again. Telling someone the worst things that happened to you and having that trust broken is detrimental to a relationship.

      Yeah, I can't fully blame him and I fully understand and support his wife (and family and friends to be fair too) in her decisions.. I feel for him, but I agree with you that he should give her all the space and realize that there is a decent chance she might never want to see him again.. I feel the most for the wife though. That poor woman has instantly relived the darkest part of her life again in one single moment and in her own safe place..

    The first OP is VERY weird to me. Because how did they realize what they thought was a six year relationship was fake and then get on dating apps the next day? Like the relationship wasn't real, but it was real to OP. They seem like someone who NEEDS a relationship which might add to them mistaking things for relationships.But also! Did the friend never bring the boyfriend around or mention anything romantic? There was never any kissing or cuddling?

    • @felisaisnthere

      I'm wondering if the girl mentioned him just by name. Relationships can be very different, and many people are surprised that me and my significant other are not only a couple, but living together, despite meeting us on several occasions, including full on dinners, parties, etc.
      I mention him by name and we don't express affection publicly, if we are in the same social setting, more often then not we sit separately from each other and talk to different people.
      It's been a running joke between our friends for forever that we are strangers who happen to have a one-night-stand every second day

    The playlist story reminds a guy I slept with at uni who had a half and hour playlist save on his phone which he used for sex and he would change what he was doing depending on the song. Like foreplay ended bang in the end of the second song and he finished on cue with the last song then just got up and left 😂

If she's going to this event with him instead of her bf and she introduces him as a "friend" maybe someone could think she's cheating on his partner, so she introduced him as a cousin. Comment about stalker story. I think that the family did the right thing to put the victim in the first priority above anything else. That monster didn’t traumatize only the victim but the whole family. I love that they protect her well and I think they’re busy trying to escape from that monster. Even though the OP had no intention to harm his wife but he had some kind of a relationship with that monster and that why he was included in the problem. The whole family had to have to go to that terrible experience again so they just tried their best to fight this horrible nightmare. I hope that I could have such a family to go all out to protect me. The OP could only wait to see what is going to happen and I hope you tried to find anything that can put that monster back in jail.

    Nerdy fact about 999: it’s the uk, but also. Back when we had rotator phones, the numbers start with 9, because of something in the phone lines i don’t quite understand. Something about clicking, and 1 click or something could easily not get trough, so the numbers always started with 9, to make sure they went trough. And for emergencies, 999 is the safest number.
    Most phone numbers here (Norway) started with 9 up until the late 90’s.
    Fun fact: our emergency numbers are 112 for police, 110 for fire, and 113 for medical emergencies (Most just use 112). HOW EVER, you can also call 911 in most countries, because Americans are famously not that bright, so we have implemented it as a universal number.

    Josh's story about the passport happened EXACTLY THE SAME WAY with a friend of mine, including the problem with the pictures being solved urgently and the passport being given only the day before the trip. I'm starting to think it was all bs, because what are the odds of it happening to 2 people in Ottawa? She was leaving August 27th, and she received it August 26th.

    The second story is horrifying and I feel awful for both the husband and the wife. The husband did not intentionally do any of this and didn't mean to do anything to hurt her in anyway. But all the same, the wife was understandably horribly hurt in a way that may mean she can never trust or feel comfortable with him because of all the trauma involved. Both of them have up be hurting so much and thing may have been destroyed over an honest, complete, non-malicious mistake that, until he knew the details, seemed entirely innocent

    Oh, god--the first story. First, the fact that she leapt straight to "cousin" to describe his and her relationships to others, when he thought it was a romantic thing...anyone else kinda getting Sailor Uranus & Sailor Neptune flashbacks?* Telling others that somebody you hang out with all the time and (from his point of view) are really close to, is a RELATIVE, is...not actually an improvement.
    Secondly, the fact that he leapt onto dating apps THAT. QUICKLY, after he found out, is sus for various reasons. It's kinda robotic, it's a bit niceguy-y (like, he hung around her that long hoping for snu-snu; the second he realises he is in fact not going to get it from her, he goes straight for other potential snu-snu sources, just...
    Now, mind you, there is NOTHING WRONG with immediately going "Oh. Okay." to a girl's "I'm not interested in you" and turning to the next attractive woman in the room who might be single and asking _her_ out. If everyone's actually single, nobody was "testing" anybody, and you don't ask in a creepy way, that reaction is actually a good thing: It means you understood and accepted the word "No", right away.
    ...it's the SIX. YEARS. part that gives me kinda niceguy vibes, like "We're just friends NOW, but if I hang out with her enough, one day she'll wake up and Realise and look at me in the moonlight under the cherry blossoms and suddenly See What She Had Not Seen Before!" When they don't take "let's just be friends" for what it is--a soft rejection--and instead think it means "I can be convinced. Try harder and convince me."
    What seperates this guy from the one who Confessed to his (from her point of view) female FRIEND in a long emotional string of texts TWO DAYS BEFORE HER WEDDING DAY, is that he _didn't_ automatically flip out and cry and rant and wish horrible fates upon her. He just took it...weirdly calmly. He did the guy-at-the-club-obviously-just-looking-to-bang thing, but with a six year delay!
    *On the old DiC dub of "Sailor Moon", they COULDN'T admit that the two girls who acted obviously romantic around each other all the time were a COUPLE, oh NOES, what a sin, think of the children! (Or rather, the angry, Karen-y parents of the children who would write in to the station to complain.) So the dub writers said that the two were "cousins"...which made it A WHOLE LOT WORSE! Dude, just LET the kids see a happy healthy couple who both happen to be the same gender and move on.

    I think if she specifically wanted her husband to be on the lookout for this guy she probably should have had the pictures printed out and given to him to look at regularly, its not fair to expect someone who saw some pictures of someone once to a)remember what they look like b)be on constant guard when she literally told her husband the guy was in jail. If you want him guarding you 24/7 from someone you need to gove him the info he needs to be able to do that

      I strongly disagree. If she was my partner, I would know how horrible and traumatic that was, I would have that person's face memorized because that person caused the biggest traumatic event in her life. That kind of trauma invades every part of your life so it should be important to your partner too. The guy admitted that he was recognizable. Knowing about that guy and protecting your wife is the single most important thing you can do for your partner. I don't know if you have that kind of trauma or know anyone who does so I don't fault you for not recognizing how serious a failure this was. The husband is not evil he just made an unforgivable mistake but it was his mistake so I don't fault the wife for never being able to trust him because he didn't take the most important thing in her life as seriously as he needed to.

    hey josh! i'm glad you made it to greece! 😍 i just wanted to say though that describing your body as being a traditionally average weight in the context of commenting on a fat person's story / experience kinda makes it sound like fat bodies are not the average, which isn't necessarily the case. i know that your intentions are so good and that you're always coming from a place of kindness, but as a fat person, it would have felt better if you described your body in a different way, like straight sized - meaning that your body fits into clothing from most retailers and that you do not struggle with accessibility or discrimination due to your size (though perhaps that isn't the case, please correct me if i'm mistaken). to kind of put this into perspective, john and sean's bodies are definitely average but are still considered or have been considered "obese" by medical standards in the past (again, i may be wrong here, i'm basing this on past comments). anyway, wanted to throw that out there, in the fat positive community, very often the language used to describe your body type is straight sized. i would also recommend looking into alternative descriptors to "overweight" - even just using the term fat and making it clear that you're using this term as a neutral descriptor free of negative connotations. you may also be interested in looking into how the fat positive community makes distinctions between types of fatness (or fategories hihi), as fat people will have more or less privilege in the world based on their size (and various intersections too). i've often heard the following terms used: small fat, mid fat, large fat, and superfat or infinifat. thank you for taking the time to read this if you have and for talking about fat peoples' experiences on your platform as well ❤

      Average is an expression that refers to a mid point. So he is not saying it's the "normal" (which would be wrong), he is saying that considering the value in which people are considered overweight and the value in which people are considered underweight, his weight would be around the average of both values, so at the middle of that measurement line. I don't see how that can be offensive.

    • @pascalelewis
      @pascalelewis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i never used the term offensive in my comment, and that isn't how i understood the use of the expression "average", but i do see your point/perspective now. as far as i know though, in the usa at least, the average is actually technically a fat person, not a straight sized person (that's if you take the entire range of body types and find the middle point i mean, that's how i believe it's calculated anyway). i don't hold anything against these great guys and i love listening to their podcast. that said, there are times where they'll say things that make me feel alienated as a fat listener. i chose to speak up about it here and tried my best to communicate in a companionate/understanding way. all of us are a product of our fatphobic society, i don't blame any individuals for that, but i think that we can all work to deprogram ourselves and be more inclusive of one another. i'm sorry if i came across in a way that felt like an attack, that really wasn't my intention at all, i was only hoping to share some of what i've experienced and learned around fat positivity.

    • @RedditOnWiki
      @RedditOnWiki  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you so much for sharing your point of view, we never mean to offend and we are always wanting to learn. I agree my body type is straight sized and I definitely meant average in the sense that I thought it to be the average in a numerical sense and not that it should be or is the normal! I'm looking forward to learning better language and descriptors. Thank you for your comment!
