Interesting what you pointed out about where the fish hold on these pilings. Where I am I fish walleye and smallies on rock piles in current a lot, particularly rock piles with larger boulders. And I noticed over the years that fish generally hold slightly ahead of the structure as opposed to behind it as well. Not always but generally.

We live on Richland Creek where all the big tournaments come out. Contact me for the details. I fished for bass in the 90s but I was followed all the time so I changed over to crappie, sold my Ranger, and now I fish for fun. I have a 1985 flat bottom that nobody follows. lol

I was listening while coming home from an afternoon fishing trip and feeling guilty for missing my seven month old daughter’s bed time. I can’t imagine what it will be like when she’s able to tell me she doesn’t want me to go. They’ll sure change ya, am I right?!

  • @kevinreardon5251

On the front side you will have a stagnation. Fluids will not make a 90 degree turn. When a flow is forced to make too tight of a turn it will create an eddy. So a rectangular piling like the one in the video will have a bigger eddy on the sides than a round or oval one.

Enjoyed the video, thanks. I'm curious about the small 3 in swimbaits that you and Jonny toss. I've always thrown a grub, currently Big Bite Baits 5 in single tail on a ball head jig. I own a box of the little swimbaits and fancy heads but when push comes to shove I get out the grubs. Do y'all really think the small swimbaits are that much better than the grubs? Everything in the lake hits my grubs.

Im from here and actually fish those barrels too along with the bridge pylons. At certain times of the year those barrels hold really good fish. To answer your question we call them barge barrels. Those barrels are all across the lake and the barges will tie to them. Although Ive never seen them tie to these close to the bridge but all the others in the lake I have seen the tie up to.
