Rip rap is one of my biggest weaknesses. I almost never catch fish on riprap even though I know they are there.
I had the same trouble once. Try this, it made me much more confident in riprap. Take an entire day, shortly after spawn or prespawn. Fish nothing but riprap and observe EVERYTHING. Even those missed bites can tell you something. I’ll bet there are fish there, you just need to find out what they want. A couple of these trips and you’ll be making riprap your holeshot destination!

Rip rap is always one of my go to spots whether is a river or a lake it's always a productive spot. In the winter and early spring it holds a little heat and the fish really like to hold on the spots pretty regularly. Thanks Randy you're awesome Brother!

This video is just what I needed. Here in northeast Arkansas, I live near a lake that has 3 shallow flats and the rest is rip rap and there are never any big bass caught, but always seeing smaller ones facing the bank where the rip is. I bet all the quality fish are doing as you said and suspending off the rip rap. The water is also clear almost all the time so the fish are probably much deeper than I realized as well.

Randy, I have fished rivers and lakes with rip rap since I was a 5 or 6 year old boy sitting on the back of my dads boat. I’ve caught the most and biggest fish of my fishing career. Everything you said is absolutely correct. All of your videos are awesome. Thank you for the information and for being such a genuine man and professional fishermen. You are a testament of what fishermen should be like.

My confidence always goes up when I get around rip rap. Anytime I fish a new lake that’s usually the first place I go to first thing in the morning. On my lakes I find, the majority of the time, they hang out where it meets the bottom regardless of depth and feed up.

I love fishing riprap. The dam on my home lake is a key spot I always hit every time on the lake. Especially in the evening when the sun is setting. Can get on a good jig bite or on the 1/4oz underspin with a 2.8” Keitech. Awesome video. Looking forward to seeing the next ones with specific baits and techniques for the riprap. 👍🏻🐟🎣💯👌🏻

I’ve been having pretty good success throwing a speed worm style soft plastic around some rip rap lately. I need to work on my crank bait technique and lure selection I just don’t have confidence in it yet but hear a square bill can be magical on the rip rap.
Once you pick that square bill up you will never put it down

For what it's worth, when braid first came out, I used it, and immediately noticed a lack of bites, my Uncle and I fished local ponds, and it was VERY obvious they could see it. The Fluorocarbon was the best as far as getting bites, and on giant fish also.
On my lake, all those rip rap jetties where people bank fish have tons of man made brush piles all around them to attract crappie. They definitely attract bass as well.

Good stuff Randy! I enjoy all of your videos and appreciate the info you give out! Can you do a video on finding good quality bass after they spawn and and still in transition back to deeper water. I see lots of videos posted on just catching bass in general post spawn. But nothing on targeting those big bass and quality tournament winning fish still.

This was a great video Randy, Thanks! The only rip-rap on my local lakes are long stretches of Boulder size rock on the face of the dam. Have you found this kind can be productive?
I know u can find somthing. Btw Randy , I was wondering why I have never seen bass fish at Sardis mississippi? I fished a st.jude tournament and there were very good weights and the lake is huge. I mean have you ever fished lake Sardis? We went when they were dropping the water and made preddy dark good fishing. Its a nice resivour. And by the way I caught my fish on rip rap at that time ! And it was 50 degree water lol
Riprap is like docks. On a busy lake, the pressure is unbelievable. Ask anyone who lives on a lake. They are just like a McDonald's Drive thru at feeding time. Those fish have seen the same artificial so often that they just lay there and pout.
Have you noticed that sometimes fishing the bait with the current or against makes a big difference especially with different current speeds?

I like the rip rap on Rayburn by the dam but that part of the lake is WAY to pressured.
You could do a whole other video just on boat ramps. They can be a life saver looking for a final keeper.
Especially when the water is colder, they hold alot of heat, and you can most time always catch a fish on boat ramps. I've fished tournaments before that ramps was my pattern man. Late winter early spring with a swim bait or square bill !!! Good to go. You can catch alot of retreads at alot of em too lol.
@@treyferguson2965 ya, I know of several tournaments that have been won in super tough conditions, just running boat ramps. Ben Matsubu on Texoma comes to mind. I think David Dudley had one but I can't remember which lake.

What about rip rap that only goes into about a foot of water or so?
Hard to stay tight to the bank when blowing though, so what do you do then?
Speaking of fishing structure, if you were going to fish an area that had the structure of Randy's bottom teeth, I'd recommend vertical jigging or maybe a drop shot to hit that gap.
(I hope this makes his next viewer insult video.)
