    Thank you Steve! My 18 month old daughter and I have been sitting on the couch first thing in the morning, me with coffee and she with her juice starting our day by watching you and your ducks and at the end of each video she says "again! again! duckies!"
    We used to watch puppies but you and your ducks are the best!!!! Big hugs from New York City :)

    You are my HERO!!!!! Custard, my 9 wk. old Wood duck female, has been living in a mesh pet carrier. Watching this gave me the idea of converting our pantry (currently storage) into a duck room. Thank you from all of us here in Indiana!!!

    I'm so glad you took them out! :) I can imagine how confused they were at first, but it's good that they were introduced to snowy environment. It would be awesome to see what they're doing in the snow, maybe next time you will film them? Of course, if there will be a next time :)
    We have around -15C here during day time, and my grandma's chickens walk outside in the snow like pros. Of course it's only for about an hour or less, then they rush back inside :)

    haha....they are so darn cute, Steve!!
    I remember when I was younger and had a dog that did the same thing when he first saw snow. It took myself and my family a couple of days to finally coax him out and from then on he loved it :)

    Ha ha, very funny! My Pipke also didn't like the snow. Even if she had to walk a short distance through the snow already after a few meters she went to lie on her belly to hide her feets between her feathers. She didn't want to get cold feet!
    Love the video!

    I'm in Newfoundland and we recently had a heavy snowfall - I have 2 female domestics - and they love it! what troopers! they've actually been tunneling thru the snow in places where I haven't shovelled - I'm so proud of them! they even seem to get that snow is water and are eating quite a bit - I set up a big shallow container to put warm water in for swimming - so we have a duck spa here on the north Atlantic :)

    i can relate to your videos i have parrots and they are almost like ducks they greet you when you get home from work and just are so much fun i can see how much you care about them and i love watching duck behavior have always wanted to have one but can't because i don't have the means to care for them it seems that you put so much effort to care for them i like that it shows in your videos how great your are at caring for them. btw i like all of your videos.

  • @Pawpkornz

    This is soooo neat. I never really been one to think of something with feathers to be playful, affectionate and the like until I worked at a pet shop that specialized in birds; Mainly macaws, conures and cockatiels. You find out they have different personalities, likes and dislikes JUST like any human individual. Some are sweet as can be and can't get enough cuddles, and some want nothing to do with you and will even go out of their way to be mean. (I've been nipped at more than once when passing by their display perches!)
    I guess it's just oddly fascinating to me to see what is usually considered a "farm animal" to actually be extremely interactive and human-friendly. Most ducks I've ever been around have either been too afraid or just plain mean when it comes to people, but I'm sure it makes a difference when they are hand-raised and personally cared for. You OBVIOUSLY care for yours very much, and that's awesome.

    • @baldfatgit1
      @baldfatgit1  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind comments :)
      Yes they are sure looked after there duck run inside is centrally heated and insulated. So in the winter it could be blowing a gale driving rain or snow 10 below and when you walk in there are all asleep or settled down for the night oblivious to whats going on outside. And no foxes or anything that sneak in during the night.
      I also have CCTV when im at work to see if all is ok with them.
      :)

  • @baldfatgit1
    @baldfatgit1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There wings are clipped twice a year but i clip as little as i can test them by letting them go across the garden if not enough trim a bit more off them until they can fly away from trouble but not fly away and loose them. Also if they are happy with there environment {garden} they don't even fly out of the garden even if they can. :~)

  • @baldfatgit1

    Hi i have Em the male i raised with Abbey these are both white so white babies. I had a friend that had a brown call duck that was in a sorry state with angle wing {deformed wings} could not digest food very well and was very much under weight. So i had her and nursed her back to full health the owner fixed one of the deformed wings but the other was to far gone. She can still fly though she is so friendly and has been accepted in the the clan so white male brown female = bibbed ducks.:)

    Well when there heads bob up and down it is the sign that they want to be mounted by the male the male will also join in or vice versa its also a greeting as well. When they have done there business the male will rush about showing that he is the "man" then washing time is next for both. There is a few more things they do but wild ones do not do it very often like they will "cluck or Quack" and heads and body bob up and down if they think they are going to fly or go look at something they have not seen before. If you talk to them very softly they will "Squint" or close there eyes that is like a smile to us humans.When you talk to a tame duck and that duck is comfortable around you it will open a shut its beak very fast (like a chatter but no noise) i think it could be like a conversation but with no noise just gestures. If they have not seen you for a while like for example coming home from work they will "chatter" to you and if stuck in there run they will try to get out this a happy greeting and are pleased to see you and are very excited. This happens mainly with tame ducks as we humans in the ducks eyes/mind are just a duck on 2 legs. :) Vids coming this summer when the job i do allows :)

    • @e.thomson8830
      @e.thomson8830 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      too funny! i have 2 females and they do the bobbing a lot - then sometimes they mount each other! are they gay, do you suppose?l anyway they also seem to do the bobbing together when they're planning on doing something - because right afterwards, off they go (somewhere).
      this morning, one of them sat across from me, watching each other, thru a glass door - then she did that yawning thing twice. I did it back. then she did it back. this went on for about 5 minutes! interesting duck-human communication!

    I do have a video on it. it was the first every video i uploaded. granted its changed since then, i have a little balcony with a cage and a meter square area outside which i leave thier drinking water and let them out during the day. When im home they spend some time inside with me otherwise i take them to the park every day i have time. If i take them out too often for example two days in a row they get really tired and just want to sit and sleep. They seem to prefer a 3 days a week walk

  • @liolp808

    In nature, they just go on and migrate, correct?

  • @baldfatgit1
    @baldfatgit1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well the runs are a bit small so instead of having just one larger pen i built them there own smaller runs. when they come in at night they are tired and just want to have a drink a few meal worms then sleep. If they are all in together some will fight each other the others cant get any rest so they prefer to be in there own groups at night. :)

    Return the duck room to INCANDESCENTS,with some chicken breeder lights ( incandescent) healthier for them.
    Careful on the red breeder lights, while they are health restoring for ducks AND humans,they can heat up.
    NO LEDS ( poisoness)

      Thanks for the info 5 years ago lights were lights. My ducks are outside 80% of the time only at night they come in then lights are on for only a few hours then they are all asleep. :)

    The male ducks are very quite but the females are very very loud not sure how to discribe it but not so much a high pitch call but very loud "hence call duck" The Call duck breed is i think based on the body shape and how they stand. Take a Mallard duck {Call duck} short neck level body when walking. Now a Runner or an Alysbury are longer neck and body is more upright {Taller}. Also not as noisy and a bit more brain power because its a bigger bird all round. :) i think that about sums it up HEHE

    Done as promised i took them out today in the snow they were not sure for a while but seemed ok after an hour {i was cleaning the koi pond at the time}. But after about 2 hours they kept tapping the door to go back in so i finished up and took them in back to the run. They are now asleep as i type this out. :~)
