Great video, earned my subscription for sure. We just pulled back in our drive. Leaving home, with a cold engine, after less than a mile we experienced problems three times. Turns out to be code P0340 - engine missing and trying to shut down, 2005 PT Cruiser. I will look under the hood now and see what I can see. 1/2 hour later: Our sensor had been changed before - I seem to recall the event, and the sensor surround is clean compared to other engine areas nearby. BUT, the problem seems to be the horrible job done with connecting the wires from that replacement sensor to the harness. Look at Hektor's fix at 8:41 and 9:11 - nice clean and secure connections, all wires protected by a sleeve. Mine was three loose wires, stuck together in places by who knows what, the tan wire with 1/2 inch bare wire showing, and the connection to the harness so far upstream that I would have to take off most of the air intake stuff to get to it. So obviously at some changing of the sensor connector wiring the workman did a worse-that-amateur job of re-connecting the wires. For a temporary attempt to fix, to determine if it was the wires and not the sensor, I wrapped all three wires with good electrical tape, which insured no accidental or intermittent grounds (I think). I then ran the engine for 20 minutes with no problem. We will stick close to home for the next few days to see if this fix is good enough or if I need to replace the wires up to the harness, which would be a hassle. We have AAA, which we have used successfully before, so that reduces our worries about break-downs on the road. Unfortunately, our small city and county 90 miles northeast of Dallas has few decent mechanics, and the local Chrysler dealer is the worst of the bunch, so if the problem is something I can't solve I have to search again for a decent mechanic. Thank you Hektor. It appears right now that your video saved me a bunch of aggravation and expense. In any event it gives me the knowledge I need to communicate intelligently with a mechanic if that becomes necessary. Your the best!
You are my hero. This car is a nightmare! We have constant issues. This was one of them and for once it only cost me a few bucks thanks to your video. Our mechanic won't even work on this car anymore. The cam sensor was replaced, head gasket, etc etc etc. And now this. Thank you for saving me from throwing more money into this money pit of a car.
The problem is that this is not a common car, you need to do the repairs by the book, "The service manual" I got the same light yesterday for the first time in 3 years.. I just erase the code and that was it... didn't change or anything why, because I changed it like a year ago i knew it wasn't bad. probably a loose cable or connector I changed some parts that are electronics with many years of service. A lot of people do repairs on their own and create more problems like the torque struts wrongly call engine mounts... Do you know you have to align the angle of the engine before tightening the nuts? not doing it creates vibrations, I love my PT!
Whats the name of the song at 6:21??? Love that song. Also, I have two pt cruisers, and one has this same issue. Randomly will not start. Turn the key for like a minute and it will eventually start. Excellent video, you are THE BEST!!
I need the same repair for 2006 pt cruiser crank sensor my wire harness plug has the same damage in the harness plug. where can i get a repair harness plug for my crank sensor harness
I'm having issues with my 2005 cruiser, Cat and O2 sensors not ready for smog. I drove the hell with it and still the same. Catalytic sounds fine, no smell and no rattle. What do you recommend for this??
We have the bad luck to have had an '01 PT Cruiser for the last sixteen years. I've done a head gasket, two water pumps and a bunch of "small stuff" on it. Now I have something similar to this car's problem. I'll be checking that wiring connector. Thanks! Oh, I grew up in Miami so I'm used to Cuban music. Is that derguense in the background where you work? It sounds like great sing along tunes. Be safe.
@@HomieHektor ) I thanks for replying so soon buddy 👍.. don't know anything about scanners just have seen'hem and eBay some of them are expensive. How much cost you, that one you have?..
@ 6:29 I would try cold spray on the connector while the car is running to test his temp sensitive theory. I think he's right though. Good trouble shooting!
@@HomieHektor tengo la misma falla y el mecánico vino y me dijo hacer el motor nuevo y serían 250usd y el carro no lo vale, pero viendo tu vídeo me ayudará mucho, gracias
A commom issue that i have seen on any chysler is that a faulty crank, yes a crank sensor will set up cam sensor codes..and vise versa..just watchout for this issue and test both signals when engine is cold..thankss
Sounds like when your AC kicks in, it builds too much pressure. Most likely, the cooling fan don't work. Start the engine, and turn on the AC, and if the cooling fan is not on ...replace it. It's about 125.00 and comes with new relays.
Why do my 2003 or cruiser started and cuts off and won't crank back up and not saying nothing after it cuts off dashboard lights just comes on that's it

How much does a replacement cam sensor cost?
Depends on the brand/quality of the sensor.
