    I wondered why my dive watch bezel only turned in one direction, I thought it was broken LOL. It makes perfect sense to only go in one direction if you accidently brush up against a rock and move the bezel a few clicks, you have less air or dive time rather than more which will get the diver into life and death problems. Good video.

    I do love the dive watch style. I currently own an Omega Seamaster and think the design is classic and timeless. And James Bond wears a dive watch...his is either a Rolex or Omega. One note is that I don't think you should wear a dive watch with a tuxedo or suit...correct? But who's going to tell James Bond anything!

    Keeping the time with the bezel on the dive watches it's not about de oxygen left, it's about the time you've spent on a certain deep (for despressurization reasons). For the oxigen left divers use computers. Cheers.

    Hello Antonio: Good video, but correction on the divers' watches bezel: the bezel is used to track your time under water, or to be used as a "bottom timer" and definitely not to measure how much "oxygen" you have left in your tank, recreational divers don't use oxygen, it is air that the tanks are filled with. Oxygen is used and mixed with other gases for commercial diving but regardless of what's in the tank, the bezel is used to track your time under water and not to measure the contents in the tank. Hope this feedback helps on how to use and the purpose of a bezel on a divers' watch.

    One of the things I love about fashion watches is that they allow me to test if I like certain characteristics in a watch. So before I go to spend bigger money on a watch I have a pretty good idea if I'll like it or not. For example, let us say you are wondering if you can pull off a 36mm case or a 40mm case or if an orange dial/face will work with your wardrobe. You can spend a little money on a fashion watch wear it for a week and see if you like it. I usually then give them away as gifts to younger guys so that they can start wearing watches and catch the bug.

    I wear an Omega Speedmaster (also known as the Moon Watch). This model was worn multiple times into space by various NASA astronauts. I mix up the straps to vary it. But I wear it for several reasons. Firstly I was born on 21st July 1969 while the first moon landing and moon walk was taking place. Secondly it reminds me of what we can achieve when we really strive to. Thirdly I have a twentieth anniversary edition; unlike all the other anniversary editions it celebrates the moon walk itself (while I was being born) rather than the moon landing and came from the factory with 21.07.69 stamped on it for that reason. Fourthly the inscription on this anniversary model is "Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed" which is the phrase I texted to friends and family when each of my children were born". I'll never sell this watch and eventually it will be passed down to my son. Until then they will have to prise it out of my cold, dead, hands.

    Personally I have a soft spot for pocket watches, I have one that has been in the family a bit, the kind that has a fob instead of a chain. Sadly no local places can fix it as it has some issues being an old wind up watch that sticks a bit. I'm not too big on smart watches given the price and just how much they do..I just really need my watch to tell the time..maybe the date as well so digital watch is good for that. Many states are passing laws now that make having a watch a good idea if you don't have one so you can know what time it is while you're driving and don't want to glance at your dashboard for the time.

If you ever come visit Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, be sure to get to know the nearby city of Petropolis (1 1/2 hour drive at most), known as "The Imperial City", where the house Santos Dumont designed and live in - called "The Enchanted One" - is located. what defines a fashion watch vs other types of watches?

    • @ray89520
      @ray89520 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bob Weaver it follows current fashion trends and design is on high priority, function only as second. Like very specific colors or everything blends into similar colors but is harder to read.
      The other types I would say serves a function and combines this with a timeless design.

      What I find fascinating in a timeless design from a known watch brand: they can run for years, can be repaired, can gain value for a potential selling or simply inherited to your children and they can still enjoy it :)
      My dress watch is an Orient Bambino and looks just fabulous and from an established brand in the watch field with known components inside and not something unknown. And it’s around 140$ imho :)

      nope.. entry level watch companies are seiko, citizen, casio, timex, maybee swatch.. they all have watches under or about 100 dollar, casio go as low as 10 dollar.. and these companies are well respected in the watch community. think about it.. everytime, some watchdude rants over fashion watches, they bring ab better alternatives.. and these are almost always the timex weekeder (round about 50 doller), the orient bambino (a brand of seiko, about 100 doller), a seiko 5 (from 60 dollars up) or the casio saphire (round about 30 dollar). the watchcomunity loves cheap watches (every watchdude i know have a casio f-91w or a casio a168), what they hate are unhonest watches

    People in the past could tell time by the position of the Sun to about 30 minutes accuracy. Now that's something to think about.
    Dress watches were used for business meetings and so on. They are small. They do their job. They don't attract attention. Going at events with a pocket watch or wristwatch was not considered to be too elegant. It's still not considered today.

    i think, fashion watch is the wrong therm, to describe this modern "fashion watches". i mean, today almost every watch ist buyed just for the style, and famous watchbrandes like cartier or swatch ar famous for being a fashion item first and a watches second. the problem with these modern "fashion watches" are, in my opinion, that they are not honest. allmost all of them are cheaply produced by noname companies in china and dropshiped to the costumers for an extreme markup. i mean, if you like the style, go for it.. but its sadly to see, that if you can buy the same watches witch mvmt, vincero and daniell wellington sells for more than 100 bucks for under 10 bucks on ali express
