Great video Antonio! I've also recently gotten into watches and these are some great tips. Buy what YOU want and what works for YOU is absolutely important. One tip I'd add is try limiting your purchases to one watch per month; it forces you to stop and think about the watch long enough to ensure that it's what you really want.

I recently went on a watch buying quest. I tend to get interested in a specific item or topic, I learn a great deal of knowledge about said topic, then buy a whole bunch of items in said topic until I find the perfect one for me. Recently that topic was watches, and thank God it didn’t take me long to find the perfect one.
I started with a G-Shock Becca I wanted something indestructible for Basic Military Training. However, I soon learned that there was a thing called pilot watches, and being that I aspire to become a pilot, I had to have one.
I had a hard time finding a pilot watch I liked. I didn’t want a dial that was too busy, but I also wanted the dial to look like an aircraft instrument so anyone that looks at my watch might get the impression I’m a pilot. (I’m not one yet, but emulate what you want to be you know?) I actually found my perfect pilot watch, and it was actually pictured in this video at 2:08 but there was just one problem, the cheapest I found it going for was $6,000. So I had to keep looking for other watches.
I got lucky one day and EBAY sent me an email saying they put together a list of items I might be interested in. Now I usually delete these emails, but for whatever reason I gave it a look and lo and behold there was another aviator watch that checked all the boxes for me and it was brand new in the box still. It was in an EBAY auction but I ended up winning it for about $170. Now a mistake I made was that I didn’t check out how much it was worth brand new from the company before I paid $170 for it. However my luck still hasn’t run out because when I looked at the price the company was selling it for it was $370! What a steal! I have had the watch for a couple months now and I absolutely love it!
Also I would like to add that this watch isn’t made by any big named brand. It’s by a company called Marc and Sons, who I never even heard of prior to finding this watch. I was skeptical at first, but after owning this watch I can definitely say it’s of high quality! (Or at least high enough for me anyway) So anyone out there looking for your perfect watch, take some time to learn a little bit about watches, figure out what you like and want, and then search for it everywhere. You never know where it may pop up.

Generally good advise, especially to make up your own mind what is a good watch for you. I have seen this many times, where the online watch community crowns a certain watch as the one to own, while other watches fly under the radar. That is where the good deals are, is the ones flying under the radar.
I would add a few things.
Do your research. Know the difference between a dress watch, an all rounder, and the various types of sport watches. I know this is maybe a bit nitpicky, but in your video, the image you used as an example of a dress watch was of the Rolex Datejust, which is not a dress watch. Rather, it is historically a sport watch, but now more of an all rounder , especially when paired with the polished Jubilee bracelet. A true dress watch is small, thin, simple three handed design, and usually made of precious metal. Not many people wear a true dress watch as a daily wearer.
After you do your research, and learn of the types of watches, and the various iconic designs such as the Rolex Datejust, Submariner, Cartier Tank, JLC Reverso, Omega Speedmaster, etc...you are in a position to start looking for a watch that speaks to you, both in functionality, formality, and personality.
Most people buy watches to wear them, so keep that in mind. You wouldn't wear a pair of trainers with a dark suit. Or chunky boots. And you wouldn't wear a novelty tie for a serious meeting or job interview. Just as you wouldn't wear black oxfords with some faded jeans and a sweatshirt. Keep all that in mind when considering your watch purchase. I know some guys where giant sports watches with a suit, and some make it work. But most don't
Finally, there is the part where some might call me a snob, but there are watches you should never buy for any reason, including fakes, but also fashion brands, some of which unfortunately have been sponsors here before. It isn't that they won't tell time. They will. But they are a poor value for the money.

I enjoy your videos. Practical advice. Congrats on your success. As an alternative custom you-design watch, which I think is the real future of watches, check out WMT especially their aging effect that they can apply to a watch. I have designed a vintage Pepsi GMT like watch. I am just completing the logo design for my custom watch. This falls into the fun/novelty category of watch, not a daily wearer.
I got started down the watch rathole 2 years ago after I was given a present of a fake Rolex Daytona Steel/Gold black dial. I had been lusting over this watch for a year. I had gone into an AD and tried it on. I thought it was perfect. And after having it on wrist, I realized I did not like it. Too small for my wrist. I could not read the time easily. I never used the chronograph. It was then that I decided to learn about watches. Over the past 2 years I have spent countless hours on the net and TH-cam learning, like you. Tons of great info out there. But you have to apply your own filter as you advise. I have taken a rather novel approach as my next learning step.
Instead of buying a $6,000 to $12,000 watch, I set aside a budget of $500. I bought 22 watches that had characteristics of the watches that I might want to own. There are a bunch of $10 -$20 cheap quartz watches, and yes, there are a even few fakes in there, but only when I could not find an homage watch to test out. So far I like watches and the other 14 I describe as learning experiences. For example, I do
not like sterile dials. I thought I would. I do not. So far, the winner is, a 42 mm, blue starburst dial, blue diver bezel, Invicta Pro Diver on a Jubilee like bracelet. Even with this watch, there are things I would change. The bracelet is not as good as the Parnis Jubilee bracelet. I would prefer a GMT hand and blue GMT dial. I do not like cyclops date windows, I prefer a straight crystal. The only way I learned all this was from purchasing all these other watches and seeing the good, the bad and the ugly. I am hoping I can design my own "perfect" watch shortly. What shocks me is how good a $75 watch can be, like the Invicta Pro Diver. Close behind is a fake 43 mm Omega Aqua Terra GMT white dial with blue hands and markers. I will purchase a "real" watch after more time and probably a few more purchases. Ideally, I am looking for a watch, like Jack Nicklaus, that I can wear every day for the next 20 years. In addition I would have 1-2 dress watches and then a few novelty watches, like the Frank Mueller Crazy Hands watch just for fun.

I'm a kinda of a watch freak and you sir are a 100% correct with your information. I also love dive watches, I own two invicta "signature collection 7042 blue/ 7041 black face" dive watches with the automatic with the hack, expo window ( see through back), I did ton of research and bought a blue and the black face, both are fantastic and I paid $85. Each, it was a good deal on both. However, you must do you're research and the flame fusion crystal and the "NH36A" 24 Jewel movement is the best combo Invicta offers. I also own a sekio " land shark" great watch, also automatic movement. My favorite watch I own is an "Alexander Vanquish" dive watch, that was $1000, the most expensive that I own but by far my favorite. Great video Thanks !

    @bradleystroup1457 5 ปีที่แล้ว

You can view watches as investments if you get the right piece but generally it's probably not a good idea and I would stay away from lesser known brands for that reason as well. Meaning that if you want to get out of that watch what would the resell value be. Rolex holds it's value very well. Another reason would be service cost and the cost to get the parts. Boutique brands are notorious for having high service cost or it's hard to find a place to even service them and they are hard to get out of. Also check the second hand values, buying at authorized dealers can be a mistake because of second hand value on some brands.

A good, solid brand. In some ways, this brand flies under the radar as the watch enthusiasts by and large prefer Seiko.

just think about it you buy seiko, nomos, omega, rolex and you can sell them in 10 years or still wear them in 50, you buy undone you can probably throw it in a trash after 5 years wearing or hide it somewhere so nobody can see your 'timepiece', and you can build your watch its called modding but its pretty advanced(if you want it to look good) or maybe you think you know better than field experts.

    Guess what ? I bought a Seiko's diver......yeah.
    Finished as a gift.
What I wear ? A watch which suits me, Casio eqb-1000D, yeah a cheap Casio but I find it beautiful designed, and perfectly suits me need (two time zones, solar, chronograph, thin, alarm and automatic adjustment).
Still having my speedmaster dark side of the moon, but mechanical doesn't suit me, the accuracy is not enough, winding is not my cup of tea....I keep it because I find it really really beautiful to watch, and I love ceramic.
