It looks like the Govee extension cable has an F-amp in it. Basically a signal booster/cleaner. I wonder if it would have worked if you put the Govee extender in the middle or end of the two off brand ones instead of at the beginning.

Thank you very much for this and your other informative videos on the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights. Because of your videos, I was confident going into my installation that required some significant modifications due to our home's unique layout. I ended up making a Y-connector from spare end connectors (cut off the end of one shortened run and one unused section) to split power because our power outlet is in the middle of the run, and also cut and spliced another run to go around a chimney. All butt-crimped and heat shrinked, and all tested out successfully today! :)

just a few tips from a tech who uses butt connectors on the reg.
    - The butt connectors that are pre-shrink tube wrapped are kinda garbage. Its easy to pierce the heat shrink when crimping thus breaking the seal. Use bare butt connectors and good black heat shrink with resin. Some heat shrink doesnt have an inner resin coating so make sure yours does.
    - You can also stagger the connections for a cleaner, leaner look.
    - If you dont have a crimper or dont want to buy bare as well as heat shrink, they make a low temp solder butt connector. Its a heat shrink tube with low temp solder inside and ya slip it over and heat it up and thats it.

Interesting video. Thank you for sharing. I'd be concerned that moisture from humidity and condensation would eventually penetrate the white box where the cables enter and eventually cause a problem. It would be better if you used a waterproof coupler, either directly attached to the box or just on the cables themselves, to ensure a secure, water tight environment to protect the wiring.

Hello Chris, I first like to thank you for the video. It answered many of my questions already. For my house I have 7 disjointed sections with gaps of different length (not more than 18' though). Is it OK for me to use 18 gauge Silicone wires of appropriate length for all 6 gaps? Or, is it true that Govee provided extension cable has some booster and that's why I should be using it wherever possible (i.e. g)? Also, instead of using Silicone wires to bridge the gap, is it better to increase the length of the extension cable using the method you shown and then use that? Thanks in advance.

Great video - I watched it a few times but decided to try and keep my lights intact instead. I am at a bit of a loss, maybe someone can help. I found a cable that fits into the sockets with only a minor adjustment (cutting off the threads). I have the lights broken into 3 sections with 2 strings in each and they can easily be reached with the single provided extension - I just only have 1. I tested all the lights together first before I out any of them up. I had the first 2 groups working with the supplied extension between them. Then I tested this one that I bought - it worked!. So now I have the first 2 groups (4 light strands in total) with a 3rd party extension between them. I went to add the govee extension to connect the last set of lights... and they dont work. I am not sure what I missed. So I have 2 strings of lights, 3rd party extension (maybe 9ft max), 2 sets of lights, govee extension, 2 sets of lights. The last set will not turn on. Anyone have guesses?

Great video man, Thanks! Quick question. I need to cut & splice in wires to create a 15' gap between 2 lights in the middle of a string. I'm concerned this will be too far of a gap and power will drop on the other side. Do you think this will be an issue?
And if so, since the 12' Govee extension has a "driver or booster" on it, what are your thoughts on splicing an extra 3' of wire into the extension, and then splicing that modified extension into the middle of a string of lights? Thanks again

Great video thanks. I bought the 150 foot strand. It comes with 3 long ext cords and 2 short cords.
Do you know if there will be flickering if I connect a long cord to a short cord??

Do you have to cut the wires at a specific point between the lights? I attempted to splice mine and they are not working correct. I get a light to go on past the splice every so often and I’ve tried literally every method you have done here. My splice is done rather close to a light but I do have the ability to cut again beyond it between two lights to retry this connection.

Hey Chris, I really hope you see this comment and are able to respond, because it will save me a considerable amount of money. In your video where you talk about cut the lights off these strands, you make it a point to show you doing this with the 705 model and the 706 pro model. From my understanding about what you said in that video, about this video, is that in this video you are using the 705 model in this video, is that correct? I hope so because if you are using the 705 model, it saves me a ton of money. Govee stopped making the 50ft strands, and I need two 50ft strands and one 100ft strand. The actual lengths I need are 60ft, 35ft and 40ft. I understand I will have to purchase the pro kit for the 60 ft section, but the other two I'm looking to purchase the 50ft regular kit because it saves me $400, and govee doesn't make the pro kit in 50ft (Go figure..) anyways, I hope you can clarify because clarification will help me tremendously.

@@Kfs-d1k thanks for watching! The pro model and the original model use different LEDs and are not compatible. You have to pick one or the other. Also the pro model does not yet work WLED in case you were wanting to convert. Only the original works with WLED. Hope that helps!

@@Kfs-d1k I didn't try with this kit yet but considering they come with a splice kit, I don't see any reason why you couldn't cut these up as well!

Do you think using 14 or 12 gauge wire would help extend the splice length without loss? I'd like to run a 25 foot space in 1 run of lights

Heavier wire gauges are good for voltage drop but since the current is so low, 14 or 12 AWG seems excessive - 16 AWG should be fine. One approach is to put a single LED module at the 12-foot point even if you don't want to see that LED. It will regenerate the data signal. I had to do that with LED lighting that I put on my stairs.

Could you add a section off one of the extensions as a Y? Or does this have to be one continuous chain? I have a section that doesn't really follow a linear path and I need to either Y the cable off, or route a wire all the way back to split point to continue on which I'd rather not do if I can get away with it.

    I have questions . . .
I have the standard Govee 100 ft. Can I splice and extend the original extension cord (i know it says no splicing). My extension wiring is 9 feet, can it be extended an additional 15 feet with a splice? Everything is still within the 150 feet total. What is the difference between Pro and Standard?
Also, I heard that when the wiring is extended, a driver module might be needed. The driver modules on Amazon says it will not work on anything but the Pro lighting. My question is why? I have just bought the Govee standard set. I would think this module would boost the signal if the system is extended with spliced wiring while staying within the 150 get, (I may not even reach 100 feet, depends on extending wiring to get to higher story), give or take a few feet. Also, if this can be used, can the wiring on this module driver be spiced and used as an extension? If that could possibly be done it would be cheaper,(since the driver is only $19)and this would not void the warranty on my Govee system.
Thanks for the awesome video, definitely gave a great option to extend the wiring. Wish Govee would make longer wiring extensions and even ones with drivers so splicing will not be needed. They could even make a t-connection. They need to supply more extension wiring connections. One does not really help reach those higher levels.

Great video Chris! I guess I need some help here. I bought the 100ft and in the 4th segment I had to put an extension of 5ft, everything worked fine. In the 5th segment after the 4th light I need to do another extension of 11ft. Did exactly the same process and no way to get it working, tried to go for 9ft extension and still no success. What am I missing? Thanks!

Hey Mr Maher I have a question to see if you have run across this issue. I have 2 of the 100ft kits. I was having to cut and extend one of the sections to include my dormers. i got one of my dormers done along with a short portion of my house done. The dormer took about 15 lights then ran into an extention of about 8ft. I used 16 awg wire to do this with. I have 3 complete sections on the house. Well when I went to test to see if lights would function correctly (with the beginning starting at the 1 dormer) it lit up the dormer and about 3 lights on the start of the house. The last light that lit up was lit red and flickering. What could be the cause of this? Im leaning toward voltage drop but thats nowhere near 100ft of lits lit. If you could steer me in the right direction I would appriecate the help.

Thanks for the comment! I never ran into any issues so I fortunately didn't have to do any troubleshooting, but if I did, I would try to work backwards until hopefully the problem went away and then re group. Not sure if everything is already installed but if so, that makes it a lot harder to troubleshoot. I would first try to remove anything that I added and get it as close to possible as out of the box and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then my guess it is something with the voltage. I would also double check all the wires to make sure they are all going in the correct direction. It would be pretty easy to connect a strip that has been cut backwards since there are no arrows on the strings indicating what direction the data is traveling like you see on all led strips.

Thanks for the video, Chris. I 😊😊am planning an install on my deck that requires three16' runs separated by two 10' extensions. It is great to see that I can actually cut the ends off the Govee 16' runs and splice the extensions in. If I go this route, I will solder the connections. However, my preference is to use similar 3rd party extensions to the ones you used. Unfortunately, I can't find them. Would you please provide a link to them?
I sent an email to Govee looking for assistance, and they have not replied. I think their Customer Servise is a little lacking.
