The tape is called 3m VHB tape. There’s MANY different kinds. But basically the clear stuff is general purpose and the grey ones are general purpose but usually with extreme heat resistance.
Awesome execution. While I haven’t done a floor lamp this way, I’ve been using 1/4” corner molding (or even flat / plain trim) to mount LED strips to and hang horizontally for years. I’ve stuck 2x “L” trims together to make a “U” and command adhesive attach to wall (light points upward), or float the trim off the wall using 3D printed brackets. Love the idea of using the corner diffuser!
Appreciate it! I did toy around with using a cast iron pan haha. It would work great and they are fairly cheap. Like a 7- 8in one like this: amzn.to/4h5amu7
Awesome video! I just purchased the govee lamp and I am not satisfied with the height. If I wanted to make the lamps twice the height you have made, would the wood trim be stable enough to be that tall? If not how would you recommend going about making a tall lamp? Looking to make a 75” tall lamp
Thank you! Hmm, It would hold up structurally I think but it would wobble pretty easy. Usually big box stores carry larger trim pieces. Like 1.5" that would be a better bet and would hold up well.
Wow, what a great video. Love the tone and direction plus the fact you left links to the equipment you used for the light. Gonna have to build one…or a couple. Question, what are your thoughts if I wanted it in metal? Thanks in advance. Have subscribed.
Woo! Thank you so much, it means alot. Good question, as for the metal you could either 1. Only use the channel diffuser (It looks great as is) 2. I linked a few metal Vinyl options (gold, silver, black) 3. Would be really cool, using aluminum L channel and try to either buy brushed material or sand it yourself. Good luck! and thanks for the SUB! Alex
Clever. Basically just a standing diffuser channel. Their strip light is $125. Where did you buy this and how can it connect to dreamview? Edit: nvm, found your link. On their own website they don’t have this cheap light.
Yeah pretty simple! As for the dream view connection: Navigate to the dreamview section on the home page, add or click on “movie watching” dreamview. Then scroll to the bottom and click “manage the device” in controlled devices. You should see those strip lights pop up and simply add it. And then adjust the color based on where it’s at in your room. You can also adjust individual brightness. I set mine to 50%, seemed like a good balance against my tv backlights from Govee.
Wooooow, having it wooden looks amazing. So easy to follow, I'll definitely be trying this out. I've seen a lot of people say the govee lamp stops working after a few months so this might even be higher quality 😂
Thanks so much for watching, hope yours turns out perfect! Wow that’s too bad, well now you can make 6 lights for the price of one and have backups haha.
Yes I used that model, and It is bluetooth. Works great through the APP running GoveeDream view! You can always upgrade to the next model up if needed.
Hi! You are mentioning one light strip is enough for two of these lights. I was told when cutting the strip the other piece can’t be used. How do you power and connect the other strip used?
I just tried making this, and then when setting up dreamview, it doesn't detect it as a compatible strip. Apparently dreamview doesn't work with bluetooth devices only wifi
Strange, it’s working for my Bluetooth only strip the “H617A” If you haven’t already try: Navigate to the dreamview section on the home page, add or click on "movie watching" dreamview. Then scroll to the bottom and click "manage the device" in controlled devices. You should see those strip lights pop up and simply add it. And then adjust the color based on where it's at in your room. You can also adjust individual brightness. I set mine to 50%, seemed like a good balance against my tv backlights from Govee.

Seriously so creative, I'm going to give this a go. Thanks TH-cam algorithm.
So glad you found it and liked it! Awesome, it's super easy to do. Have fun with it!

Great idea with the makeshift U channel could come in handy one day. Thanks for watching Ryan!
Absolutely incredible.
Great video! Perfectly edited and voiced. Keep it up 👍
Thank you for the kind words and will do!
The spacing hack is a great tip. Subscribed
Hey thank you! Next video is in the works I appreciate the sub.
Thats very cool, thanks for sharing. I would like a more robust floor mount, but for the price, its hard to be mad!

@@hobbybuilt I've seen ones made from concrete that look very interesting, would need a form to create a void inside.

Hi, you are correct that was an oversight on my part! For the other light you would need a second light strip. I will update that in my write up.
Alex
@@hobbybuilt also where do you get a single govee strip for under $10? Everywhere they are at least $20.
@@emryskle check the link in the description! They are regularly $5-10 off, currently $9.53 as I write this comment.
