Nice to see someone is doing tests! I did 3 sets on the same house. 2 had splices and one didnt. Both are flickering when using bright white type colors but dont flicker using orange. I thought it was my connections corroding bc they worked fine when installed but a few months later the problem started. Ill look into boosting the voltage. I didn’t make them any longer than what came in the box!
hey Chris awesome set up. I messaged you earlier in the week. is there any different type of wire that you recommend longer than what Govee gives you to do an extension? I have to go to an attic and it's about 25 feet. Thank you once again.
Thanks for the video man! I just installed my Govee lights from Costco using a 45’ custom splice to get from the front to the back and the with the addition of the power boost line (50’) everything is working great!
Hey Chris I have a question for yah about the govee M1 rgbic leg lights 16.4 ft I want to run them across my ceiling but I need 55.8 ft of lights. I know I can connect 2 sets of light together but I don't know how far I can push it without losing power to the lights. Any tips
Hi Chris, love your videos. I have the new outdoor pro permanent lights 150 feet. I want to add another 3 strings but need a bit more than the 2x4' and 2x12' extensions. Is that possible with the pro lights to use some 20 gauge wire to make custom length gaps? Also what would be the furthest I could go between strings?
So how can you cut off a few lights at the end but still add an extension cord to reach a higher level roof? Can you just splice the waterproof connector back on? Great videos BTW.
I only added about a 20 foot extension between 2 segments and had flickering in my last 3 segments. You talk about power induction quickly. Do you have a link to it? Does it use another plug in into the house? And is it possible I just used to small of wire for my extension?
Thanks for the helpful video Chris. I ordered lights from Costco and got installed by someone. He cut the lights and I am trying to restore them. I simply connected the wires to each other. Dont know why that wont work. But I'll try with your method tood.
What/ where / how exaclty did you plug those 4 Christmas tree lights around the post to keep the control boxes from behind outside. My understanding is the control boxes need to be indoors which makes it difficult for outdoor lights to have indoor controll boxes
Great explanations Chris! 😊 If I might ask, do you have a solution for the curtain lights to be controlled by WLED? Or is it limited the same way as the pro version of the outdoor lights?
Does the Govee permanent outdoor lights Pro work with WLED? There doesn't seem to be many products that are individually addressable and have dedicated warm and cool white channels.
Excellent video! Very informative. Getting ready to install Pro version this week. I haven't laid them out on the lawn yet to get a feel of how far they'll stretch & I'm already worried about the extensions. I have a ranch house & it has so many peeks & areas where I know I'm going to need jumpers/extenders. I would love to know why they don't sell extra extensions of different sizes🤔 I really hope I don't run into any issues trying to figure out what to do if I use all of them from the kit & need more.
When making a Wye Connector using the Peo splicers but using the regular extensions what are the blue, yellow, and orange connections compatible with? The center is the data yellow, I believe, but what is the wire with the black or grey line on it? Is it blue or orange?
When putting in a Y Splice for one segment to go up a level and one to go down a level, does splitting cause the pattern to be different in that scenario?
@chrisMaherDIY Your videos are incredibly helpful, thank you! Is it possible to use the far end of a cut off strand? My primary install left me with a strand of 5 lights I'd like to use on another project. Is it possible to add/splice in a plug and use it as a normal strand?
i installed govee permanent lights only to find out that i started with the "end" at my power source. Can i cut off the female end to add a male end to receive the power (female) end? Or does the power have to begin a the female end only?
Thank you for posting and sharing the info! What's your take on the control driver module that's included in the 200ft version? Do you think the flickering can be resolved by adding that control driver module?
For really long extension runs say 100 feet, have you tried data boosters to up the data bit to ensure it make it across the length? I the the newer version of cables has the booster built into the cable.
great video. I just ordered my pro 200 since there is a phenomenal Mothers Day sale this weekend. When using the Y's, are they already made with one female and the two males for the y or did you have to modify the splitter? I havent received mine yet so dont know how it looks stock out of the box. Also what is your recommendation for a 3 ft deadspot where I need to backtrack. I am thinking of using butt connectors and 20g wire to add like a 4ft blank run. Thanks for your help
Actually 1 more question. Do you know of a y connector that would connect between segments? Without need for splicing? Where I want my y is right at the end of a segment. Would be cool if that existed.
Great stuff, thanks! I guess I need some help with mines. I bought the 100ft and in the 4th segment I had to put an extension of 5ft, everything worked fine. In the 5th segment after the 4th light I need to do another extension of 11ft. Did exactly the same process and no way to get it working, tried to go for 9ft extension and still no success. What am I missing? Thanks!
So I have a 200’ pro setup and I had to add a 16’ string. The last 2 strings will not light. I installed the driver after string 6, directions said 5. I figured with the extra string moving it 1 string would be fine. Everything works well besides the last 2 strings. Also 1 light has like half power to it on the last string. Weird, any help would be appreciated!
hi Chris, I have a couple extra Govee -M1 light power supplies left over from a couple projects. my question would be, could I run non Govee lights on this power supply & use the hub like a normal Govee Light ?
Chris, Thx for the videos great content. I used your install method for the curtain lights and they look awesome. I was wondering, when you use the music mode do you just use a speaker inside the house as a source for the effects or do you have an external speaker playing sound outside during the scenes?
Hi Chris I have 2 100 footers to do around my whole house SO i have 2 power supplies so If i go with the esp 32 I will need one for each power supply. is this right. I looked on amazon and there is a lot of those ESP32's can you please tell us what one to get TY
Hi Chris, thank you for the content you put out. I was wondering if you know whether or not the Govee permanent lights would work with a pixel controller like a Falcon?
Hi chris please 🙏 bro ,Can I extend the control module "the controller" in order to put it like a switch on the wall? To make a chain between the controller and the strip? Thanks in advance. I use rgbic pro 20m
Does anyone know if this (cutting and reconnecting) the govee down lights? I don’t want them equally spaced I want a specific spacing but can’t find any info. They’re three wires between them like the outdoor ones.
My question is can you connect 2 different GoVee products together on the same string? I have permanent outdoor lights on the first floor of my house. I only needed 4 strands. Can i buy the GoVee outdoor flood lights and connect them to the end of the 4th string of the outdoor permanent lights all ready mounted and therefore using the single power pack that i have ran from my garage attic that's hidden from the outside and not have to plug in the flood lights to my front porch that would be seen? Hope this makes sense.
Hi chris. I have an issue that I was hoping you can help me with. I have an install that has extensions and partial segments joined by butt splices. The layout from the power supply is 2 full segments of 12 lights each, partial segment of 3 lights, extension, 7 lights, extension, 7 lights, extension, 6 lights and 1 full segment of 12 lights. I can only get the lights before the first extension to work. Is there a reason why this is not working?
Found the issue. The second partial segment was installed in reverse. Didn't realize the segments were direction sensitive. I also found that the first extension was too long and was losing data from lights upstream. I experimented with different extension lengths and found data loss at more than 14 '. Went different route and shortened the extensions and all works good.
Hey Chris great video. I know you said you got the small plastic boxes for your wire connections on Amazon. Would you happen to have a link I can not fid them?
Hey Chris I got the first gen Govee and I ran two strands from the power supply, I spliced and rewired to fit my house but I had a strand with only 3 lights left from when I cut earlier but when I connected the 3 they worked just fine however connecting a new strand to the them after a 3’ cable extension they seem to loose power but strangely enough only two lights at the end of the new strand would work but nothing else, I looked through the app to see if I can edit the settings but doesn’t seem like it recognizes them at all any help here would be greatly appreciated thank you
27:54 Im currently facing the situation to Y splice my govee pro lights, but am afraid that it wont have enough juice to power the remainder of the lights- what have you guys done -any tips or suggestions?
I want to switch to using WLED. Unfortunately, the lights are already installed so doing the cutting & splicing up on a ladder is not ideal. I have the single wire running from the Govee control box in the garage thru the wall outside to the connection of initial light string with three distinct wires. Has anyone cut that single wire in your experimenting? I assume it has to contain voltage, negative, and data lines but is seems pretty thin to contain all 3. I am very hesitant to cut into it and ruin something; especially if the internal wires are not marked somehow.
Yes, I cut mine about 18" (450mm) from the power supply ( it had three wires. Still not sure what the yellow wire was for) and then about 6" (150mm) after the controller for the data line. I then utilized the remaining line from the controller to the lights for the power and data feeds. My only issue was the lights flickering when pushing too much output power with WLED. This was easily fixed by limiting the output with WLED to 1000 mA. This seems to be at least as bright as the Govee controller put out. By eye anyway.

Do you know if splicing and extending the 4ft govee extension cord to 14ft will work with out flickering?
If you have a 12ft plus gap, can you use one light in the middle to keep the lights from flickering?
You are the man Chris! Thank you for the video! Some of us are very timid about modifying our lights since they are pretty expensive!

Does the Govee permanent outdoor lights Pro work with WLED? There doesn't seem to be many products that are individually addressable and have dedicated warm and cool white channels.
