    Great to see that again. Also a couple of great videos before that time of the boat search and actually finding Salty Lass.
    She looked like a new boat, bare of those bits and pieces that now make her home.

      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      She looks weird 😄 but it shows how much she was a local sailing boat rather than a cruising boat. She lacked all the add-ons needed and she needed those little touches to make her ours.

    Thanks, I am on the sofa, accompanied by an Irish whisky. Outside it is gale, 2 below freezing and 2 inches of snow in 2 hours. Liquid water is a bonus. Great ladies!

    Makes me smile to see the Isle of Arran where I went once - by accident!
    I got off the train from Glasgow at Ardrossan Harbour - which was undergoing some works. In the tried and tested tradition of good old British Rail the train was late. There were some of those concrete fences - vertical slotted posts with horizontal concrete beams - which guided me to the boat for Belfast. En route I asked a railway employee about the boat and was informed it had sailed, so I did an about-turn, found accommodation in a B and B, and had a drink, like you do.
    Next day - off to the boat which was sign-posted as being the Belfast vessel. Presented my ticket on which by far the biggest word was BELFAST, and the idiot punched a hole in it.
    It had crossed my mind that this boat was not nearly as big as the one from Liverpool or from Larne-Stranraer - this was 1975... but I reasoned with myself that surely to God the crew knew where they were going! So, my ticket being punched so to speak, I had a drink - as you do. We sailed.
    I had a bit of a walk around. It was only a bit of a walk cos the boat wasn't big enough for anything more! After about an hour land hove into view with the most beautiful view of a lot of little white cottages with red tin roofs... Belfast I thought? This is definitely NOT Belfast.
    I found the idiot with the ticket punch.
    I challenged him as to our destination. Brodick he says. Isle of Arran.
    What d'ya mean Isle of Arran I said? I'm going to Belfast!
    How he laughed...
    I never set foot on the island and returned to Ardrossan when they did the return. Then later in the day had to explain to the crew of the ACTUAL Belfast boat why I was presenting a used ticket. So THEY had a bloody good laugh too!
    Now I'm retired I really must visit Arran one day. I'm sure it is a really lovely place.

      What a brilliant story!! Never trust the guy with the ticket punch.
      Although we have sailed right around the Isle of Arran, we have only ever set foot on Lamlash to walk 100 metres to the Co-op for supplies. Like you, the rest of the island awaits in breathless anticipation of our explorations 😄

    Watching as I get ready to sit out Storm Kathleen, tucked away up the river at Fowey on my new boat delivery trip to Anglesey. I would swap the last two weeks for any of the weather you lasses had !

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The weather in the vid looked good but the worst of it happened at night and we were not really confident enough to film and sail, but overall it was not too bad. The summer was better than last year's abomination.

    Interesting to look back on your journey, I'm not surprised you had problem finding a replacement Gaz as you were looking to replace Camping Gaz and they were offering you Calor gas which are completely different and have different regulators, I believe you got this sorted in later editions

      It was interesting for us as well to see what we did and discuss amongst ourselves about how we do things so differently these days. The joy of experience perhaps? 😄 But we definitely have the whole gas thing sorted out these days.

    Drama from the outset, couldn't even wait to get a few passages under your belt:) I remember going into that lock. They listen on a channel that was not available on either of my VHF radios. I had to hail a passing RNLI rib to get them to radio the lock master. And the current there is wicked. Happy days:)

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They only use handhelds in the lock control and there is a block of flats blocking them as you approach. We oftrn hail them from the Wirral side once we pass Egg buoy. The current is a bit fast though... 😄😄

    Nice video from the past. Enjoyed watching. As you may remember we have a new to us 2002 Bavaria 36. Do you have any advice on sterilizing and rinsing our fresh water tanks. They are empty now but we need to sterilize and rinse before we fill.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello again! We use Aqua MegaTabs to keep the tanks sterile and clean. On the first fill after the 1st of the month we drop half a tablet in as they do 220L and our tank holds a maximum of 150L. Since we always boil the water, a lot of the chlorine gets boiled off. In any case we prefer the slight chlorine to a "musty" water taste. The next fill up we do NOT add a tablet just to make sure that we to not build up a strong concentration. Every other fill or every third fill seems to work fine

    The coastguard out looking for the dingy!!!😢 U 2 have enough nouse to know that u don't use nylon rope, 😲 What was the actual date in March u picked up salty lass please😜 the music is fantastic. I actually think this is a great vlog, u showed alot more of what ur actually doing. 💖

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We informed the Coastguard about the dinghy. If it was ever found we never heard about it and we didn't know better about the rope (and it was polypropylene not nylon so that is our "get out of jail card" 😉) We picked up the boat on March 14th so just a tad of winter left but there is not much difference in early Spring up here anyway. It felt wintery enough.
      Glad you liked it. The editing crisis is continuing and I might need to do another one 😄

    Not a life jacket between you. I’m sure that’s changed now. I’ve done that passage a few times now and will do it again in three weeks time from Liverpool to Largs. Via IOM ❤. Didn’t Gaynor look so much younger. Also 4 hours looking at Aisla Craig and 4 hours looking back at it. Oh what memories.

    • @dracey1778
      @dracey1778 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's the boat that should keep you afloat, not the life jacket. I'll take a life line over a life jacket every time.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass

      @@SailingYachtSaltyLass Gaynor, Right at the start when slipping lines. I’m just being picky. As I’ve always seen you wearing them. Was a first. Just ignore me.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lifejackets in these latitudes are a necessity. Falling in to the water here can cause cold shock and paralyse your muscles allowing your head to go underwater and ingest seawater. The LJs flip you onto your back and keep your head out of water until the cold shock passes and you can breathe normally. You would not be to grasp a line never mind pull yourself out.
