The last step is asking to delete the two sysNAND files from the gm9/backups in the sd card. Do I have to do it? it doesn't sound right and I don't know if i can turn it on yet

Back those up to your computer first then delete them I'm pretty positive it also says this. I know the verbage in the hack site is not great I sometimes read things 3x myself on there.

If it's the new 3DS yes, I have yet to check the method for the old 3DS which requires other methods like owning certain games or flashcards with ntrboot but non free ways to hack your 3DS are available still just costs up to $20 unless you own the games listed for the hacks.
