    Still a really cracking uplifting track. Those first 3 Crisis albums were my teenage soundtrack.

    Gorgeous, breezy, witty and mature beyond their years. This song and some of their others can stand shoulder to shoulder with the great music of Steely Dan

      stephenpeter63 there’s a link to Steely Dan with China Crisis, I think one of CCs albums was produced by Walter Becker

      " In 1985, he briefly became a member of the English band China Crisis, producing and playing synthesizer on their album Flaunt the Imperfection."

    Walter Becker ( of Steely Dan ) sure has given the Crisis some edge and direction with their Flaunt the Imperfection album. Rate it as the best, all the songs were just jewels, lyrics and the instruments superb.

      i think Diary of a Hollow Horse is just as good overall, tho there are is at least one song there i could pass over. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a song that competes with this one. Autumn in the neighborhood is good too, but it also has a clunker.

    that must be the late kevin wilkinson on drums? i got this album "flaunt the imperfection" on cassette tape back in '86 and did not playing since. :) china crisis can't be forgotten to be mentioned as 80s most important bands

    i see no CHAMPAGNE GLASSES used here. As for CC, utterly underrated band. Absolutely wonderful.

      Gary Johnson and Kevin Wilkinson were the secret weapons of this band. Very, very solid rhythm section. Gary Johnson could play anything and make it beautiful. Kevin Wilkinson was my second fav drummer after Stewart Copeland. Very musical and solid.

    The song on which they probably got the balance of sublime pop song writing,pace and production just about perfect.

    @sirmoog - Can't argue with any of that, but for me the best pop/dance bass player of all time is the late and very great Bernard Edwards from Chic. I saw CC last year at Sheffield O2, they didn't do Arizona Sky either, and that's my favourite CC track - they did start with 'The Soul Awakening' though, and i love that one too. CC are probably the most underatted 'pop' band of all time - they have loads of great tracks.

    I like Japan's and China Crisis bass player. But of course, Mick was a better player

  • @kyachdistent1301
    @kyachdistent1301 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    'Course they wrote better songs than Japan-not hard! Way better than the embarrassing nonsense the overrated and over-feted Prefab Sprout do too, ditto Depeche Mode and Simple Minds. Gaz and Eddie have way better voices too than all this lot, apart from Paddy Macloon whose voice is way better than the songs he usually comes out, except the odd tiny gem like 'Appetite', 'Cars And Girls', 'The Sound Of Crying' and 'If You Don't Love Me'. Japan are dull dull for the most part, whose only cools song is 'Quiet Life'. China Crisis have tonnes more-and do whole albums of the stuff. Great underrated band and single!

      I like all those groups you mentioned plus Scritti Politti. I like China Crisis the best because they are consistent with their material, rarely making a bad track. And they also respect their early material and are happy to play it live unlike some of those other acts who want to disown all their early albums.

      Can’t agree about Japan, they had some really great songs and Mick Karn ( RIP ) was one of THE best fretless bass players ever. China crisis are wonderful as well, I like them more being from Liverpool lol
