I went to see The Bluebells at Brighton Corn Exchange on 2nd June 1984. Friends Again were the support band. They were astonishingly good. Great songs, great musicianship and they were clearly having such a good time, grinning away to themselves and us at a time when gloomy ‘raincoat’ bands were dominant. Went out and bought the album and all the singles. Trapped & Unwrapped is one of my favourite albums, ever. A joyous, uplifting combination of pop, soul & country. A pity they didn’t last longer, but then again what they left behind is perfect. ❤
No encontraba este temazo desde hace 40 años que lo debí ver en Tocata u otro programa similar. Una pasada de grupo.Crecí con ellos cuando era un adolescente. This is music
This was quite popular in the Philippines back in the early 80s.. along with Scritti Politti's Perfect Way, Curiosity Killed The Cat's Down To Earth and Prefab Sprout's Appetite..
Just came back from driving and was listening to CBC radio and heard some great Canadian indie artists. Just look for those that fly under the radar because if you will just rely on your local radio that play only what's popular (signed by major labels) then you will lose hope.
Roy T Bone I totally agree bro. I'm a bass player and as I listened to this song after not hearing it for many years, I was surprised with the beautiful bassline.
Worrying this kind of thing. And it makes me hate the crap of today all the more, when all bullshit is allowed in to insert themselves into our lives and make us suffer with their vile crap. Back then, hardly any artists were allowed to break through. The constraints were awful. Just as well the internet does some positive things!
Gosh what a great song.... oh if I could travel back in time.... That 'retro alternative' sound...it abducts me and takes on a ride back to my baseball days.... Thank you for nostalgia. God bless the '80s.
They should, but when your competing with bigger acts like The Cure, New Order, The Smiths, to name a few. The 80's is just brimming full of very talented bands.
@@AntonioGuamil Quite true! The Lover Speaks and Everything But The Girl are two other bands that should have been HUGE. There were just dozens & dozens of great artists then. We didn't realize how lucky we were...
There is a wonderful (and also little known) Scottish pop band from Glasgow called The Orchids whose music really does conjure up memories of this almost forgotten band.....they were originally formed during the late 1980s (pretty much around the same time as Friends Again split to become two or three other bands) and recorded for Sarah Records, bringing out three great albums and many singles and EPs before stopping in the 1990s, only to reform again in the late 2000s. Ian Carmichael (One Dove) was their collaborator and producer, they too should have been massive.
Got this track from a cassette compilation a bought when i was 1st yr BSPT got hooked to its rhythm..shes a work of art..i heard it played on the bus days before EDSA erupted
This is being reissued by Cherry Red Records on 2 CD. Release date is Nov 29, 2019. See Link: www.cherryred.co.uk/product/friends-again-trapped-and-unwrapped-2cd-collection/
Sorry for the late replying and thanks for your post. I usually do not buy music on the web, prefer going to record shops or fair. But I might make an exception for this excellent record :)
Kinda reminds me of prefab sprout in places, I remember seeing them supporting at the Marquee and some twat heckling them shouting west coast crap but they won the audience over. Chris Thomson was unwell 🤒 that night but still sung his socks off. Check out Honey at the core too. 🙏👍🏻
2:39 love the guitar. I do not care that no good music has been made the past 25 years because great music like this has already been recorded it only needs mass exposure.
Have you not been paying attention to David Bowie, Prince, Death Grips, David Byrne, Foster the People, Arcade Fire, LCD Sound system, Ice Cube, The Bathers, etc? Great music has existed throughout the tines, the style just changes and just like the music then, the top layer was primarily just sterile, compact throwaways but if you dug a little you found genius out there.
I think Chris should make a 2020 remix of this ....I still remember the night in Arlington St when I heard the demo of this wonderful song that had just been completed that night ...and was full of admiration...then and now
What a fucking belter! The powers that be kept this hidden, this band should have been massive, reunite, peace! For those who kept this band down, you'll probably have to answer to GOD
Que excelente decada musical grupos y bandas q nunca sonaron en am fm en estos 80s post punk aparecieron muchos generos y como este q pinta a lo alternativo
OMG!! What memories and this is in my collection of 12" sinles along with Wang Chung "Dance Hall Days" and The Police on a blue vinyl 12"..this though is another master piece from the 80s unknown to many. Thanks for the post :O)

Beautiful song ❤
What a great band
Still listening to this beautiful "work of art" in 2024. 😉

I AM STILL OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG! ALWAYS WILL BE 80's child.
This was quite popular in the Philippines back in the early 80s.. along with Scritti Politti's Perfect Way, Curiosity Killed The Cat's Down To Earth and Prefab Sprout's Appetite..
That's why I love 80's

I'd bought Honey at the core and Sunkissed and was so into this perfect band. Should have been absolutely huge as Friends Again.
Beautiful. This song is pure bliss. Wish Friends Again could reform and play in Manila.
live south of buffalo ny listened to CFNY 102.1 in the 80s played great music like this miss those times
This song is simply perfect
This song is fantastic, it takes me back to the magic of the 80s, very good, looks a lot like Prefab Sprout! ❤👏
Esta canción tiene magia. Desde ls primera vez q la escuché... Grande doble 9. La radio rock en Lima
This would be a hit today, brilliant
A real early eighties sound, the bluebells, orange juice, pale fountains and others, good stuff.

Just beautiful
Great band! Saludos desde Perú 🇵🇪
Sigh!!!! The awesome, cool, peaceful, fashionable, & all smiling New Wave days... Miss these New Wave Memories!
Love this song. Should have been a big hit.
Absolutely beautiful back then, absolutely beautiful now.
Man when I listen to this classic I realise how sad the music of 2019 sounds. So much passion in this track..

Not sure if they count as indie but I love Stars and City and Colour, two underrated Canadian bands.
One of my all-time fave songs. Too bad I won't be able to see them live.
Pure genius out of Scotland. I thank you ❤️
Pure new wave song❤
I had this on cassette years ago..it was a new wave compilation album..just sublime!
Clean and pure sound! Will never get out of style! Better than today's music!
Sweetie, there IS no music today and hasn't been for several decades, practically when the 80s ended. Do remember this!
I only saw them Live Once , but I've not forgotten it 40 years on from that day
Very clear! I love the twang of the guitars!
OUTSTANDING!!! The bassline is very understated but absolutely spot on.
Roy T Bone I totally agree bro. I'm a bass player and as I listened to this song after not hearing it for many years, I was surprised with the beautiful bassline.
Another good 1980s alternative song I never got to hear until the internet age.

James Grant, so no surprise.

Neil Carmichael maybe?
for me its one of the Best 80's Song! Thank you for posting!
this song is definitely a State of Art.
This is a fantastic song... a bit more melodic than typical new wave but still great !
Why this band is not in Spotify?? They MUST be there!
