    I do hope the quests are a bit like you described. Something more memorable and less tedium. Even a little puzzly to figure out a good way to kill the fiery thing before the flame dies out would be a nice touch. Or using what you know from your current Artisan school rank to make the things you need to complete the quests to reach the next rank would be cool as well.

    it is similar to ffxiv but only to that point that you need certain parts crafted or process by other professions. as well the profession quest just that the "job" or class is the profession you are leveling which means it has only levels but no official ranks. the next part is that ffxiv has unique profession skills which you need to use to obtain a HQ item

    I really like this. And making it hard to get the certs quest items is a good thing, you should work for it. I have my doubts that they would put an item you'd need in a dungeon mob with the need for a party though, unless you can trade the item, but then this make it not as hard to obtain.
    So perhaps 2 options for getting a rare item, one in a dungeon that appears more often but needs a group, and one that is very rare but appears in the world and is soloable (for those hermit crafters).
    Just pondering out loud :D

    The certifications are reminiscent of FFXIV's job quests for sure. Though honestly, one thing that I'm a little disappointed by is that crafting seems to just be a UI simulator. I might have not understood properly, but in FFXIV crafting is an entire job with unique actions, and crafting is a VERY deep minigame, and to me personally it's the best version of crafting in any MMO that I've played. I feel like, at the moment, Ashes' crafting system is way more of an afterthought, where you just press the button to craft. I really prefer the system of unlocking better crafting abilities as I progress, and seeing that make crafting low things easier and faster, whilst also allowing very high level crafts to be attemptable in the first place

      The AoC devs have said that minigames for crafting (like are in FF14) are a planned feature. In fact, the recent round of spot testing was implied to be at least partly to test these minigames (it is the "gameplay layer" Steve talks about a few times).

    They really need to add some sort of drop for end game crafting. Buuut make it interesting. Like it drops damaged armor. And a crafter takes that armor and creates a cast from that. Then they can recraft that rare item. With the cast obtained they can craft it from now on. Yes i know that sounds like a recipe. But at least be different. Either drop a cast or damaged armor you repair piece by piece. That creates something very good.

    At the speed of development they will have to port it to unreal 6 to do the first beta test so should be released in 2030 or so

    The crafting video was disappointing in that recipes were insta combine. I hope they add a crafting minigame to test crafter skills, with player made crafting gear to add bonus skill stats, as in Vanguard:Saga of Heroes. It would also be great to see variable resource stats as in Star Wars Galaxies. Those two elements would add enormous depth to the current fairly vanilla system. Currently its main complexity relies on craft limitations forcing player interaction ... Hardly cutting edge.

      I've been waiting for ages for this shit to happened. Would make it so that Crafting becomes it's own way of enjoying the game and the world. Making recipes as hard as raiding ect. To actually value the skill of the craftman instead of non stop grind.

      @@Bananenbauer123 probably part of alpha 2 I would think. Variable harvestable qualities adds depth, and a reason to take other people's resources if it is regional, and changes from time to time

    The best crafting to exist was Stars Wars Galaxies. Ashes of Creation early look at crafting is basic as shit. Which kinda makes me sad because I love crafting in games but the developers ALWAYS get it wrong. Galaxies while not perfect was the best crafting in any game. You didnt have forced material use. You had forced type use. In terms of ashes of creation, it would be skin to making a sword and you are required to use metal for blade, metal for guard, metal for pommel, and wood for handle. You could use any type of metal and any type of wood in those slots. Which would effect its stats. If you used end game materials, you could make a twink item aka level 1 item. Which would be used to level up an alternate character faster because you did more damage. Modern MMOs don't think about multiple playthroughs. So twink items dont exist. They assume you will play one character forever and never try another build/class/setup. Worse are MMOs whom let you switch classes on the fly making progress meaningless.

    Ill be honest, the crafting system in mortal online 2 is by far the best in any game ever created. This does seem like a fairly good system though, at least better than recent mmos

      You'r probablyr right especially for making metals, it's so complexe and rich in gameplay ( maybe to grindy tho) the crafting part is very good to but it's a different game items don't come with lines of stats so the depth of it is limited in a way. I think taking inspiration from MO2 is however the best idea they could have !

    Nothing says "Master" lvl crafting like a quest that requires you to go hunt sea creatures with a cannon lul 😂
    The quests you're describe sound like a Runescape-style quest to unlock a new piece of content or achieve a reward. They're a broad gameplay experience that dips into a variety of different content and skills to give the "all-rounder" type player a fulfilling experience.
    When it comes to proving your crafting skills in a certification quest, I would much rather see it be about... you know, using that skill! Give the player some dummy materials and ask them to perform a careful synthesis process utilizing several tiers of reagents and maybe a pince of RNG to the production pathways so the crafter can express comprehensive knowledge and talent in their profession.
    FFXIV crafting/gatherer quests have just a token amount of crafting/gathering, choosing instead to focus on the narrative flavor of how your profession is experienced in the world and lore. I don't think they're related to watch you're envisioning here.

    How do you know where to find all these mats??? Is this just from ppl playing the alpha or are they listing all the mat origins on the website or what? I love the adventure of finding all this stuff but like, htf is anyone supposed to know to fish in a swamp under a full moon for a mat??? >.

      Yeah @silasgs9257, dont know what you mean by "you all follow" like youre already playing the game, and ive stopped playing mmorpgs when WoW BFA launched, so dont know who youre trying to attack.. but like i said story is important for me perssonally, weather linear or not.. and i have watched every stream and every narc video, so i know what the game is about, again, i really hope the story will be good.

You didnt make the game even if i was attacking this aspect thats not an attack on you and im praising the lack of linear story it has. Regions all have different goals and objrctives and you as a player can avoid story almost entirely and be a pirate for example.
      Like skyrim has a main storyline but you can avoid it almost entirely and just do your own thing. This has been emphasized that choice is a part of the game and that is a good thing! Not bad! Lol

      PS should be something borderline unreachable. An artifact level item, maybe if you had one you could actually become grandmaster in all crafting fields as well as multiclass into a 3rd combat class for free, making you essentially demigod. But as stated in some previous video, there would be one per server.

    The only thing I am not quite on board with is the core process of crafting itself.
    Sure, how things are gathered and the depth of the systems is what ultimately carries it.
    But after all those adventures just throwing everything into a World of Warcraft menu from 2002 and hitting "craft" would be rather underwhelming.
    Maybe its too much for an MMO, but I really liked how Alchemy and sharpening worked in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

      There is supposed to be a "mini game" system to crafting. Check out the wiki.
      This live stream only was focusing showing progress. Not the fully completed gameplay loop.

      My position overall was never that anything would be in a finished state or that they won't improve it further in the future.
      But now the community and the communication of Intrepid focus on crafting. So I think whatever we want from the crafting system, now is the time to put it in words!

    I don't think the crafting in Ashes is better than Mortal Online or even Pax Dei.. It's pretty good, but in no way amazing from what we've seen thus far, we'll once comes launch.

    Maybe I am blinded by the copium, but after a certification a fisherman should not receive the recipe for the next fishing rod…just the ability to use it. A crafter with adequate certification should be able to craft it for them? You can still have them collect rare items for the certification.

    I will disagree with 'rare' RNG spawns. Localized (like valcanos) but rather require vocational items to allow successful collection. So long travel, but no RNG.

    You say it has "THE BEST crafting system" but the actual crafting looks like every other basic mmo.
    Press button and have a chance or guarantee of crafting said item.
    It's the GATHERING that's different. The procurement of items themselves.
    When you get that drop from the swamp/graveyard biome or inside of some dungeon. There is no crafting involved. You are GATHERING it.
    Another complaint i have is that why do these mmos restrict you on having to do all your crafting AT cities. Do you honestly expect hunters or what not a thousand years ago didn't have to craft a set of arrows from sticks and rocks in order to survive? LET US CRAFT EVERYWHERE.
    That's what our ancestors did so let us do the same.

    Honestly, this feels too much like Final Fantasy XIV. I want to explore the game world on my own terms and simply gain exp by, you know, picking herbs, mining ore, crafting stuff. Skyrim style pretty much. FFXIV has the big problem that the resources are only "useful" because they are required to be collected/crafted for certain quests, outside of that though you throw away whatever leftover resources you have. I really hope Ashes of Creation does it the other way around, giving resources an actual use and purpose first so people have a reason to venture into the world to get them. Gathering quests are so formulaic that it feels antithetic to what Ashes of Creation is supposed to be.
    Yea sure, give the player some fetch quests for a first axe to chop down your first trees, then receive a pair of lumberer boots, but after that let us just do what we want.
    I think crafting recipes themselves, which can be aquired in all sorts of ways, already give you checklists of resources you need to gather IF you are interested to craft the item that is.
    But having specific requirements to level up? Nah, pass.

    I love the idea of a profession needing to be obtained through quests. Wanna be a master blacksmith? Go and collect the scales of a dragon in the icy mountains. Wanna be a master herbalist? Collect to poison thorns of a giant corrupted plant monster. This gives meaning to the profession and the effort one needs to be the best.

    Best crafting system?
    Far from it...
    In fact, you did not talk about the crafting system (everybody knows that we need comps to do a recipe, no matter how hard it is to get them).
    You just talked about the certifications, just quests in fact, where you just have to find hard comps and buy some to others crafters.
    I'm pretty sure this will be a classic crafting, no matter how many professions are present.
    Classic crafting? I explain...
    All characters, with the maxed selected skill (let's say blacksmith) and with the same ressources, will craft the same sword, with no difference on it.
    No experimentation point, no quality on ressources (all steel are same), no impact on final product for an "average / good /excellent /Perfect" on the craft...
    Sorry to be a bit long, i'll suggest a complete crafting in AoC forums, maybe it's not too late and they'll be smart enought to listen...
    Best crafting in past: SWG / Asheron Calls and another one i can't remember...
    And even them, they can be easily improved...
