    Do you think raiding will feel less fulfilling if all that drops from bosses is crafting resources?

    • @_Cyarc
      @_Cyarc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still remember the time me and two buddies went into the Acklay cave (SW Galaxies) and killed the boss and it dropped super rare acklay bones to make a god-tier stun baton and we all flipped shit we were so excited. I think its still going be just as fulfilling but my only worry is being able to find a trustworthy crafter to hand over that god-tier resource to...

      Yes. If all that drops from boss is crafting items, that would very much suck.
      So cool items with crafting items would be better. I like the idea of full raid items being awesome and crafting being the same or 0.5% better.
      Everyone knows you need to reward the work, not the luck. ( as in RNG drops)

    i think getting a decent drop from a boss is good, but crafters can upgrade it and even customize it even further, satisfying both the thrill of getting a usable drop, but needing crafters to make it epic.

    As a player who loves gathering and PvP this is a dream come true for me. I'm not big on raids or dungeons and often only do them because I have too. With this system I feel it encourages all types of players to interact. It also allows us to play the way we enjoy. For example I'd be interested in buying drops from raids from players such as yourself to then use in crafting with other players ^^
    This allows me to do 12 hours of gathering/exploration and PvP ~
    Nice video btw ^^

    I honestly just came across this game and after 15+ years of playing various mmo's I'm finally looking forward to crafting. Vanguard had one of my favorite crafting systems (the fact it was more than a button press and done) and to know that guilds might have dedicated crafting players again is awesome. I'm honestly looking forward to crafting almost as much as other aspects (ships and bags = $$$$$$$). Certain crafters are going to be well known just like pvpers/raiders again. You might even have whole dedicated crafting guilds that run the entire game economy. Imagine entire guilds of gatherers, mercs, and profession crafters. An alliance system might be a good move for the devs. Lock players into month long contracts to protect/unable to attack/ally alerts etc
    I am worried about item lvl/stats and how it will affect gameplay because that could become a problem when the #1 guild is years ahead of everyone else in gear in the 1st month and one member can solo 10 players. Not that im against the hardcore just need a way casuals can catch up some or that's a majority of the player base gone fast. Is there any info on this? I haven't found any yet

    I think it's going to breathe life into the world of the game, you can't just be a raid rat or a dungeon goblin. You will have to participate in the world one way or another, players who were just sitting around waiting for queue's to pop will be desperately out in the world seeking the materials to craft that insane piece of gear and when you're desperate to finish something that you've been working on the risk of losing items in PvP creates a thrill that you cannot force a player to experience any other way.
    It's kind of like the dark zone in The Division, when it first released the risk of dropping some crazy piece of gear made your heart race, the risk of potentially dropping materials that will enhance your gear to endgame will make players feel that same rush.

    Where I tend to gear more towards combat and raiding in mmos I do get lost in crafting if the system has enough depth to make it interesting and rewarding.
    The crafting/professions system ashes are doing is actually one of the reasons an old friend and I got interested in the game in the first place, I remember us talking and planning out what we think would gear towards and because I love blacksmithing in games and irl I plan on trying to become a master blacksmith and possibly setting up a small guild around that and being the guilds armourer and he plans on becoming a master gatherer as he loves gathering in games which meant I would have a steady supply of materials to forge with and he would have someone to forge him gear whenever he needs it.
    I like that ashes seems to be trying to make it so players need or rather make it so it's more beneficial to work together, form parties and guilds to make the best of your experience.
    Like in some anime I've watched it would be cool to see guilds who's core focus is gathering or crafting and I'm sure there will be as those guilds would probably be the biggest help and contributors to the games economy.
    Much like irl you can't do everything yourself and I think with the pvp solo players are going to get targeted a lot so it will be important to make connections in the game to "survive" the world and it's inhabitants.
    I'm really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out and even if it somehow flops which I doubt it will I think it will still open up doors to ideas for future MMO creators.

    I play MMOs to interact and feel surrounded by thousands of players, however, I don’t want to be FORCED to rely on those people and their crafting / professions and have it directly affect if I succeed or fail. Crafting should affect certain things, maybe a class weapon / item, but certainly not a whole set.
    Second point you mentioned, it’s full loot PvP…you’re telling me I’ll kill a world boss for crafting material only to get killed and instantly lose it, thus I get no progression on my gear set? No thanks, I’d rather kill a world boss and earn gear. Great video as always though!

    • @Roarrior

      I'm very interested to start testing this in alpha 2 and see just how reliant gearing is from crafting. Steven said the best gear comes from crafting. But how much better IS the best gear? We will have to see. And fortunately for me Tarkov has taught me to how to deal with losing my things 🤣

    I'm looking forward to having to interact with lots of people, I miss that on today's MMOs.
    I'm not a raider....once I've done a dungeon or raid I can't stand the dev making me go back and do the same thing over and over and over...hoping for a drop. I did the Baron 69 times in wow and it just ruined it for me on dungeons and raids. Yes, once is fine to experience the content... after that...I'm done. With the new system, I can make friends get the gear "I" want and not have to spend countless hours hoping something drops off a boss I've killed x amount of times. But I know people love raiding and I'm glad they do more power to them. It seems there will plenty of everything to go around! Hope to see you in Alpha2!

    • @Roarrior
      @Roarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will be nice for players such as yourself who don't want to constantly grind the boss. Nothing will be player bound so it will be easier for you to get what you need without doing so. And ill be running around alpha 2 for sure. Thanks for watching!

  • @baneblackguard584
    @baneblackguard584 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    absolutely the best gear should be crafted. i'll go further, the only gear that should be obtained as drops is basic gear. this doesn't mean you have to be a crafter, it DOES mean you'll be trading a lot with other players. Interdependency between players is what makes it an mmorpg, otherwise it's a single player game with some multiplayer functionality. And yes, there will be players who won't be interested in that. not everyone will want to play AoC, but i think there will be many who won't think they'll be happy with it that come to love it if they give it a try. this interdependency existed in Star Wars Galaxies and it was the most impressive aspect of that game. in all the games i've played over the decades none have done a player run economy better than SWG, and it was because all the best gear was crafted.

    • @Roarrior
      @Roarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      SWG was amazing. I didn't partake in the player run economy to much so I don't have much experience to speak of. My friend and I found a holocron very early on and sold it for milllllllions. I just bought whatever I wanted. Never had to craft or barter haha

    Nah, I think you'll still feel fulfilled raiding over and over again. You might get that fancy helm to drop that you can equip right away, but in the meantime you'll have access to high quality resources that no one else has at the moment because YOU and your team are on that boss right now. You could seel this materials to eager artisan players and/orrrrrrr keep the ones you need and hire a Master Crafter to *make* you that Masterwork helm - and customized to your build as well. You might never have to touch crafting at all as long as you supply a willing buyer with a steady flow of materials your raid team doesnt need!
    I think this is great because I think in most MMOs these days, you either do all your crafting AND raiding for yourself, or you sequester yourself into one corner of the game (PvP vs the PvE endgame raiders vs the crafters just making and selling stuff vs the roleplayers who do some or all of the above.) And dont really interact with anyone else.
    With an interdependent system, people who love to Raid and only Raid will be the ones highly sought after for materials the crafters need, and the raiders will want to make some connections with folks who really want the stack of dragon scale you've accumulated in your inventory. All against a backdrop where not being careful with those materials could cost you if you lose it to some pirate who camped outside the entrance to your raid dungeon and ganked you cuz you didn't have a sentry keeping lookout.
    And then even THAT is a story you can tell, so even though you lost hours of mats, you now have a mission to hunt that guy down and get it back. You'll be angry in the moment but what a story to tell your guild later.

    I really don't like crafting systems that put arbitrary restrictions on players. I look at it like this. In real life I can learn plumbing and electrical work and carpentry to any extent I want. So why have games that say ... yep, your character can do X and Y ..... but just because we say so and there is literally no reason other than we say so they can't do Z? The truth is most people will focus without being forced to anyhow ... so I don't really think making it against the rules of a game is really that necessary.

    • @Roarrior
      @Roarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sorta feel the same way. The only argument I can make is Steven wants to create that player dependency by kind of forcing this system onto us. He is creating the need for players to interact with each other. Honestly not sure how I feel about it. In other games when I don't feel like interacting, I don't. But if my gearing is tied to crafting this forces me to. I completely understand it. but at the same time.... 🤷‍♂

  • @WolfeRavenwood
    @WolfeRavenwood ปีที่แล้ว

    Day-long timers which puts artificial rarety of material isn't a good thing.
    I am afraid there won't be a good and meaningful crafting system like in everquest 2 or final fantasy where crafting is actually a real content and has to be played.
    Which would be a pity.
    New worlds crafting was a bucket of shit with some decent gathering.
    That i can't gather and craft is a pity as well. Another game where i can't play as a crafter/gatherer, i suppose i won't live to see one anymore.

    This game will be another DoA MMO since its another worthless sandbox PvP game. You'd think they realize after New World this trash is pointless. After Dark Age of Camelot, these PvP based MMOs fail because once the "exodus" happens the game dies and offers nothing for the remaining players. You don't design PvE content around PvP. That is a sign of total disaster.
