2011 Range Rover Sport HSE 5.0 Alternator and Battery Replacement DIY

The Charging System failure notice popped up..Today we have to change out the Alternator on my wife’s 2011 Range Rover Sport. It but the big one the other day and took the battery with it. Dealer wanted a buttload to do the job.. so I powered through and went at it despite my knee surgery recovery..

It's very common for faulty alternators to cause an electrical system drain when they go bad, depending on what part failed in the alternator.. Battery was fine I'm sure. A faulty alternator will definitely kill the life of a battery but very likely just a drain caused by the alternator taking a dump. My L322 just did the same thing..

Swapped out my alternator lasted 2-3 days until I got the charging system failure light again. Great

Anyone else done this job and NOT taken it to the dealer to program for the battery? Getting mixed reviews on if it needs to go in..

Can be done in 45 minutes I think. Took me an hour and a bit with filming and the stupid rewire.

Probably have a parasitic drain somewhere.

Battery seems to have been killed by the old alternator. Néw battery and alternator in and the system is holding nicely!

i had parastic drain somewhere i pinpointed to old alternator, swapped it out, all good.
