Deanston every day of the week. Bought about 6 bottles of Deanston over the years and never a bad batch. Bunna is a different story. 4 bottles bought. 2 were bad batches. Can't justify giving Bunna my custom anymore. Good review mate.
Two of my favorites that I always have in my cabinet. I love them both and the choice depends on the day and the mood. Cheers!
correct answer James...thanks for dropping by fella
Same here James 😂… Cheers 🥃
I love the Deanston 12! It's a perfect whisky for me! It was love in the first nose! The virgin oak ist also auch great whisky, specally for the price! The Bunna 12 is one of my favorits. A great Sherry whisky!
Both wonderful...
Like the Deanston, love the Bunna.
I have no doubt about which one to chose personally, Bunna everyday of the week. That doesn't not mean I find the Deanston bad, not at all.
Great comparisson, thanks :-)
I think there very evenly match could be any on different days for me...cheers my friend..
Summer dram vs winter dram
bunna evry day no contest
It's a tough one for me Gav...
my exact thoughts. im not crazy about vanilla as a tasting note
There is more to this than vanilla my friend....so much more...cheers for dropping by....
Love them both, almost always both on the shelf, almost always both open. Two quite different ones, imho. One never goes wrong with these two🥂cheers
I like both
Bunna for me.
Any given day it could be either, that s why it's such a great comparison Gerhard....cheers fella
Great comparison for review. I think you're absolutely correct, it really depends what you like or mood you're in ... 'on the day' They are both great drams.
Correct my friend...
I haven't picked up a Deanston yet, but I have the Bunnahabhain 12 Cask Strength which is very good. Thanks for sharing your Drams with us.
Its awesome and your very welcome my friend....The Pleasure is in the Sharing....
Love them both, but prefer Bunnahabhain by a little.
Cheers!
On any given day it could be either, I think there a perfect match up...cheers fella
Love the Deanston 12 Alan!!
There both great that's what made it such a good comparison...nothing to split them...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Alan.
I go with Bunnahabhain. Period.
Slàinte mhath
Love all things Bunnahabain and the 12 yr got me started with them.
Never had Deanston as not sold anywhere near me
There both belters, have you tried the bunna 12 cask strength.?
Actually depends on my mood and what specific taste I'm looking for. Both are great but Craigellachie? Best laddie
A great battle dear Alan as both are good value and delicious. While I enjoy the Deanston when I am in the mood for a toffee and honey dram the Bunnahabhain is more complex and slightly better in my opinion. Thanks 🙏 ciao dear Alan take care. S.
I think its a perfect match and both fantastic...cheers Sandro....
Very yin and yang comparison Alan. Both is the obvious answer for me with a Ledaig 10 in their as well for a trifecta of styles. As good as bunna 12 is I find myself buying it as a blending ingredient these days. Blended 60% bunna 40% Ugidail (or even better independent cs stoichia) gives a wonderful Islay sherry peat bomb that is better than any core range bottle. Cheers Alan
Think Deanston is darker these days..too floral for me in the past..preferred the more sherried Bunna 12!😍🥃
This dark batch it lovely...its tough to split them...cheers Ian....
Love both of them but Bunna is the best in my humble opinion!
Hi Alan . Which would I buy? Easy, both. Two solid malt’s at decent prices. Slàinte Alan.
It's a tough one fella...
Can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.
Correct...go on pick one...lol
@@thewhiskyfriend Bunna this time, Deanston next time, how’s that?
Perfect...there is no wrong answers to this one fella...
Both fantastic drams, very hard to pick either one. Cheers Alan!
To keep it simple…Both! Cheers
It's a tough choice fella....
@@thewhiskyfriendIt does not have to be at all. When in doubt, buy both. This is what I do every time
Bunna is my favorite of the two, but the Deanston is also very good. Great video! Keep up the good work!
Deanston every time.
Deanston is good, but Bunna 12, no hesitation
Two good whiskies, but Bunnahabhain for me
Alan, I've got both of these on my shelf and like you I think they are both great 12 year old whiskies. So different, but very distinctive drams. Keep up the good work with the reviews (Mark aka CrazyChemist)
I recently finished bottles of Deanston 12 and Bunnahabhain 18, and I still have a bottle of Deanston 15 organic. I also tried Bunnahabhain 12 from a mini-bottle recently. All of these are good; you can't go wrong with any of them. After I finish the Deanston 15, I'll probably get another from their range, and I'm sure Bunnahabhain will be in my collection again. I'm holding out for a 12-year cask strength, but it isn't readily available. As for which distillery I prefer, I don't have a strong preference - it depends on my mood.
Great job Alan!
Deanston for me yeah!
On any given day it could be either fella...both wonderful...
You should throw Ledaig 10 year in there too as all three distilleries are owned by Burn Stewart and all bottled at 46.3%.
Yeah wanted to keep them at 12 years and wanted to save the peat for another day...think the videos are long enough with 2 drams...maybe ledaig 10 compared to Port charlotte 10 what do you think?
Love this! Thank you
Deanston has been upping the quality of their core range for a few years now…In the US sometimes the 12 is on special for under $50…the Bunnahabhain 12 never goes below $70 😢
Enjoy em both sometimes price matters…
Go with bunna 12. deanston 12 is very nice one, but newer batches are pretty dark, and i think thats not the 1.fill story. For me its more virgin oak on the palate.
I think its awesome buddy....but so is the bunna...
Hello Allan,
i would buy the Deanston 12 at 46,3 % because i would also buy the Bunna12 at Cask Strength 😅.
So i had both Whiskys i love 😜
(btw.
I will never forget the Deanston 20 Sherry.
Sooo good but now unavailable for restricted Budget 😅)
Thanks for another interesting Video from you and Greetings from Germany 😎🤘
Bunna by a million miles! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 1
I believe in having backups but you got more than enough for years to come on many of your selections
Great collection
Thanks my friend. .😜🥃
Great comparison my friend.
Glad you enjoyed ...just subbed to your channel...looking forward to checking you out my friend...
@@thewhiskyfriend thank you. I'm subbed to you as well.
Fantastic Bunna!
Craigellachie best laddie
Deanston for me👍
I find Bunna 12 can be a bit inconsistent.
Never had a bottle of Deanston 12. I haven't enjoyed even the darker batches. Plus, it's around $ 20 cheaper than the Bunna here in Melbourne 🇦🇺
They are so deferent from each other, id definitely say deanston is more of a summer dram and is way more consistent batch wise . Ive recently enjoyed the best bunnahabhain 12 yet it was terrific but had one last year that was terrible so it does seem to be one that'll variable depending on batches .
I've not had a bunna that bad...
@@thewhiskyfriend it is a heavy favourite of mine just got unlucky twice but would never put me of getting a bottle as definitely one of the best value quality drams out there.
Bunna is best in my opinion.
Any day it could be either...thanks for dropping in fella...
Just buy both
Correct answer my friend....
Alan, Great H2H. I'm on my 3rd bottle of the Bunny 12. Haven't tried the Deanston 12 but love their higher strength finished (Bordeaux, Dragon's Milk Stout and Brandy) scotch.
How about a H2H on their 18 year olds? CHEERS!
That would be a great video DJ, 2 bottles missing from my shelf these days...let me see what I can do my friend...
Bunna every day, no contest
Easy choice. Bunnahabhain is sherried, so that’s my pick. Deanston doesn’t offer much in regards to sherry, and they’re overrated.
I'm sure Deanston do lots of sherries whiskies...its a game of opinions and a massive respect to yours my friend...cheers for dropping by...
@@thewhiskyfriend thanks mate
I’ve had some wonderful LE sherried bottlings of Deanston that have been amazing
@@chazchilly9697 that’s great. Limited editions don’t help me though in the states
@@maritimeus im in AZ myself…just gotta leverage the “sites” that ship “glassware” across the pond. Otherwise local buys are just depressing
No reason to have to choose one over the other.
Bunnahabhin all day. Not even close
Oh it was close my friend....lol...thanks for dropping by fella
Deanston 12 or Loch Lomond 12?
That is a tough call, and would be a great comparison "battle".
Leave it with me....
I ll take the Lomond 12, even it is colored 😪 But a lot more character and funk 😍
Bunna for now..
Whisky and light is a big no no,why have you left all those great bottle exposed to the elements.
They are perfectly safe where they are my friend shutters are closed in that room...I have been collecting for many years with no probs...no heating either I the room ...cheers..bunna or deanston my friend...
ok sir@@thewhiskyfriend
Hello Alan, I really appreciate the comparison of two of my favourite whiskies. Which one to choose? They are both champions in their categories, my choice depends on the moment and my mood (but I must confess a preference for the Bunnahabhain)
Here are my tasting notes.
Bunnahabhain 12yo (46.3% ABV, Bottle code 2301985 L5 08:25 213009): I will start with the colour: it’s a beautiful and intense dark amber gold. Rich and elegant, the nose immediately recalls notes of sultanas, oak, barrel spices, vanilla, and fresh fruit (orange), with a touch of malt and a subtle saltiness. The smoky and peaty notes are almost imperceptible. The sherry influence is present: raisins, candied fruit and caramel fill the nostrils, reached shortly after by the ocean notes that accompany them gracefully.
A soft, caressing, sweet smell, a great balance of sweetness and spice.
The mouthfeel is oily, rich, and creamy and benefits from its 46.3% ABV and non-chill filtration.
The palate is initially soft with notes of sherry and hazelnut, vanilla, and sultanas, leading to the sweet notes of malt. Then the presence of the ocean becomes more pronounced, dampening the sweetness that turns towards salted butter. I can perceive a light peatiness but in its more vegetal, non-smoky, herbaceous form. Candied fruit and caramel do not overcome the intense sherried notes: the ageing in Sherry casks is there, but well integrated with the bourbon influence.
Maybe it will still be too sweet for someone, but I find it a perfect balance, full-bodied and mature.
The finish is medium-long, with good persistence and notes of oak, vanilla, spices and sherry with a salty and herbaceous aftertaste.
Deanston 12yo (46.3% ABV, Bottle Code L164869 21/182 2021/07/05 08:35): This is one of the most appreciated value-for-money bottles on the market. Crafted by hand following the traditional methods with ingredients sourced from local farms and ageing in ex-Bourbon casks
Amber gold colour, on the nose we are welcomed by a slight alcoholic tingle and the intense aromas of wood spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) and vanilla, accompanied by delicious notes of ripe banana, peach, apple, caramel, honey, almond biscuits, leather, hints of citrus zest and barley sugar.
Full-bodied on the palate, tasted neat it's a tad fiery; it recovers the spicy notes with a bitter streak that mitigates the sweetness of the woods. Yellow fruits and nuts become more present, accompanied by notes of candied fruit, caramel, vanilla, oak wood and honey, followed by hints of citrus zest and tobacco. Impression of smoke over distance. Medium persistence, spicy with notes of oak, honeyed malt and nuts.
