    Nice one Alan! Tough call, but Port Charlotte just ticks the boxes for me. There's something totally unique about that Bruichladdich distillate that sets it apart from other peated drams. For me it's the best peated whisky Isla has to offer around that 10-12yr age, and even wins the day going up against the likes of Ledaig 10. Great video! Slaintè🥃

    Great head to head Alan! I would pick the Port Charlotte 10. For me the PC10 is consistently a great pour while the Ledaig 10 sometime hits me as great and sometimes not….I think I need to spend more time with the Ledaig because the coastal and dirty machine shop notes are my favorite.

    I’ve polished my bottle of Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 are watching your video. I enjoyed both.
    The 2013 bottle says it’s aged eight years, but I get nothing of the spearmint/toothpaste & banana/coconut notes of an immature Islay, like most of the Caol Ilas I’ve tried, as well as the young secret Lagavulin cask strength bottling, Finlaggan, or even some 10 year SFTC Ballechins.
    The 2013 Providence series entry from Bruichladdich is everything the 10 year is: smoked meats, gentle maritime, biscuity barley-sugar & Bordeaux bonding impossibly well to that sweetness, and the grassy flavors of the Classic Laddie & earlier unpeated Islay Barleys disappear/mature out of the flavor profile. The 2013 adds to that a bit more ‘farminess’- not bitter grass/hay, but ever so subtle funkiness, right in a Ballechin-lovers wheelhouse.
    The next version of this release, the 2014, has a maturation profile with a good bit higher percentage French red wine casks. I like the subtlety of this release. I’m not so sure that Sherry-bomb Alan would agree. Perhaps another head to head is warranted.
    Cheers, Alan!🥃

    I love my Ledaig 10 (Rioja and the 18 are no slouch either!!)... but there's no besting Port Charlotte 10. It's simply too good.

    I did the same line up Alan, & with a few other smokey ones in with the mix, these two coming up as finalists. Did the line up with my son & what a memorable day ( definitely it's in the sharing Alan), my winner was the Ledaig & the PC running up & I reckon there was a single point score difference too. Two sensational cheapies, & honestly best value going if you love your peat. I came back afterward to Edit... I just lined same two up again & I still prefer the Ledaig. Great review Alan.

    Ledaig wins for me.. just, i think i enjoy the dirty industrial overalls a tiny bit more. The pc 10 takes a while to open up in the bottle, i preferred the last half of the bottle way more! Both excellent

    I have a ledaig 10 in now and love it , it really does need and least 10 minutes in the glass and 2 teas spoons water for me its very hot stuff . The port Charlotte for some reason i don't get much flavour from but i will persist until I do .

  • @Nikolay_Nikolov
    @Nikolay_Nikolov 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If value is not a factor I'd give it to the Port Charlotte 10 as I find its taste profile a little more interesting. Still Ledaig 10 takes it for slightly better price/quality ratio. In Bulgaria 0.7 l bottle of Ledaig 10 can be had for the equivalent of roughly 38.50 pounds by current exchange rates whilst 0.7 l bottle of Port Charlotte 10 will set you back 49-50 pounds at least. On the other hand 1 l.bottle of Port Charlotte 10 from Travel Retail store costs ~ 54 pounds which is even better value than Ledaig 10. However I'm not a fan of the 1 l. bottles as my rate of consumption is too slow and I will be stuck with it for a good year and a half.
    All in all, both great whiskies!
    Cheers!

    Thank you Alan, that was fun and informative as always!! These 2 are among the great peated whisky standard bearers as some of the other big-name Islay OB offerings fall down in terms of price/value and overall inconsistent quality.

    The way to compare them is to ignore the price of the Bruichladdich. If you can't get past the price then the Ledaig wins hands down.

  • @HawkerPaul
    @HawkerPaul 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Tough call this Alan. The Ledaig is currently about £10 cheaper, so if value is a factor then I'd lean towards the Ledaig. Purely on drinking, I think it depends on what mood I''m in at the time, as I find the PC quite a bit peatier (is that a word? 🙂) and has a bit more of a power hit. Having said that, I love them both. I have the 2 in my cupboard, both about half way down, so that says it all.... I seem to go back to them both in equal measures.
