From Goceck Bay you can go to Cold Water Bay or Caracaoren. To Caracaoren be careful of the rocks just under the water line, take the long way all around the island. The couple in the restaurant of Caracaoren is lovely and they have nice stove dishes. The restaurant owner of cold water bay is called Ali, he married a Thai woman who can cook very well, you also can make a trip to a deserted town. The donkey Pavarotti is probably not there anymore.

I haven't watched your channel for a while and I want to day that both of you have grown so much and have become do much more confident on the boat. Nice to see!❤️ There is no shame inbeing concerned or even afraid in a storm like that. Good friends from Holland lost their schooner in a small harbor in the Azores years ago. A storm came up out of nowhere. They first stayed on their boat, but both safely 19:18 got off the boat with their dog and duck because it became too dangerous. The boat tore away from the dock and shipwrecked on the rocks. So yeah, no shame in being careful in a situation like that. Glad you guys are OK. Isa is so cute and has grown so much. ❤❤❤

The "Wall Bay" is known for its strong and unexpected squalls even when there are no storms. The low hill behind provides little protection from the winds coming from that direction. Good thing you left it without an incident.

I had a 25' boat at the local marina when a hurricane approached. The storm surge was expected to drive right up the bay and hit us with sea levels well above 5 feet over normal. The marina asked us to stay on our boats, if possible, to pay out doc lines as the sea levels rose. They also had volunteers to adjust doc lines for the boats that were unmanned. Despite all our efforts, a couple of boat broke free and one boat sank because the doc lines kept the boat from rising and the water came over the gunwales. Watching this video brought the memory of that evening back to the forefront of my mind...

That catamaran‘s fenders were too high to fender off your boat. I would have insisted that they lower their fenders and if they weren’t on board, I’d have boarded their boat and lowered the fenders. Just had to do this two days ago in Croatia. The owner of the boat would be grateful.

Hey guys. Have you skipped Gokova and Hisaronu Bays? You should check them out if you have not already. Gocek is usually packed. Further east you will find less safer anchorages. Those two bays are the best. Both have winds blowing from NW. Gokova has the venturi effect, starting from 2 pm-ish. So add a couple of kts to your Windy or Windguru forecasts. Hisaronu adds too after 4 pm. Tons of less-deep anchorages in both areas. You do not want to miss these two bays. Turn around :)

Better safe than sorry. Sometimes my friends smile at me, but we experienced nights in marinas where you don’t want to be out in a bay. So well done and fingers crossed. Anchoring 30 to 40m deep waters around Göcek bays are very common. And this time of the year (March-April) south-easterly winds blow very strong but just one or two times a year, I have seen 75knots in D-Marin Göcek.

That storm looked rough for a second. But there are so many lesson to see right here…
The safest place for a boat is the open water, not at anchor or in a marina. Of course in the absence of open water a marina might be your best choice.
Children on board will require attention from crew members. In your case 50% of the crew. That can leave you severely short handed. It also means setting up for solo sailing is a must.
Women and children get evacuated first. While it appears that men are running the show, it’s also men who get sacrificed dealing with whatever comes.
Turkey and Greece sure are the lands of the gods.

This episode reminds me of a similar event on New Year’s Eve 1985. We were wintering in Puerto Andratx, Mallorca. We had been invited to celebrate with friends. As we left our apartment, I decided to check on our Nauticat 33 that was anchored stern to the outer breakwater in the harbor. That’s when all hell broke loose. The shackle holding the Genoa to the roller furling had come loose and the entire sail had gone to the head of the mast in strong winds and getting stronger. Alone on the boat I was unable to secure the sail and my wife and 4 year old sun where on the breakwater when I noticed waves starting to break over the breakwater. I yelled to her to get off and go for help in town. I had two anchors off the bow in sandy bottom and 30 ft of water, as well as two lines to bollards ashore. I was in pretty good shape except for the other boats of absentee owners around me. Sandra showed up with the skipper of an American trimaran doing a circumnavigation. We managed to secure the sail and decided to cut loose from the breakwater and away from the other boats. The wind kept increasing and the waves coming over the breakwater had flooded the dinghy. My secondary bow anchor was unrecoverable, so we just cut it loose. Fortunately, our 33’ Nauticat was equipped with a 90hp Ford Lehman with enough headway to hold our position in the harbor till the winds subsided enough to get into the marina dock. From there the efforts changed to helping secure large yachts that had dragged stern to into the concrete piers. The next morning I checked on Danish fiends that were on the inner harbor breakwater and found the roadway on the breakwater littered with large rocks the had been turned into projectiles by the crashing waves. The wind instruments on their boat had pegged at 75 knots during the night. It was a night to remember!

Love your videos. Isa is so cute and it’s great to see how well she adapts to sailing life . The drone shots you get are amazing. I was wondering what kind of yellow line are you using to tie off to shore. Do you carry 2 300 foot or so? It seams to store well. I need to purchase some for our boat.
