      I was a service director at a dealership that was located right next to the Long Island Sound. I used a ton of these fittings/connectors on fuel systems and rolls of easy bend brake line on trucks due to the harsh salt environment. You will definitely get a pissed off customer when you hit them with a huge parts that exceeds the worth of the vehicle😂. Great job Wes.

      Plastic fuel line and compression fittings for a motor vehicle? Hmm...I don't know. For a GMC 2500 HD?...Sacrilege! It's not an ice maker. One corn stalk away from a community s'mores and marshmallow toasting gathering. 😜 ($1 Gentleman's bet that truck will be coming back in another video.)

      That could be true, Wes, except why would they be using that thick of guage for that welding cart? That's not logical to me, especially in a welding manufacturing shop. I'm in the province of Ontario, in the Niagara peninsula. Yes, that's in Canada. I'm thinking that it's going to be this or next year that I'll have enough money to start building quite the fast go-karts. I started learning about automobiles since the second grade of high school, which was in 1982. Yes, I'm 55. Well, not exactly because I was inside my mother 56 years ago. Ever since that second grade of it, that was my absolute best subject. This is due to the DNA that was given to me. That's the reason why I know about it more than any other. The two exceptions are automatic transmissions and electronics. As for deciphering codes, attach the lead into the OBD port, such as that SNAP-ON device you have, and it will show the problem there on the screen. Wes, please continue having yourself and your family an excellent night. B'bye.

      Southeast coastal Alaska is worse. If Wes worked up there for a summer, his tune might change. Not only do you have winter road treatments to fight, you have some that have to drive on the tide flats during low tide. It's not uncommon to have to change out brakes and every bit of hardware every six months for some.

    I've used that plastic line , Doorman quick release on one end & barb on other.
    I didn't have your fancy rachet / explode tool.😆 Heated some water in microwave used an old plastic cup, stuck that plastic line on there for s few min. Hand pushed the barbed fitting on. $ total about 16.00 & my labor = free. This was between, filter & flex fuel, % detector regulator /sensor.
    Not bad for an electrician . Worked great.

    I am a retired plumber and I will give you a tip about compression fittings. If you brush the ferrule, and only the ferrule, with Teflon pipe dope, you will have a more positive connection. That squeaking you feel and hear is friction you don't want.

    Thank you for doing "simpler repairs " as well. Those things are just as important as some of the complicated items you have repaired recently. Also I'm glad you mentioned other more risky ways to accomplish the same task. Fantastic was the mentioning of a possible result of completing the task "sketchily" may result in a FIREBALL. Some people never realize that doing a sub par task may have very negative results. Can't wait to see more videos !!

    I popped for the stainless home run lines for my ‘05 Silverado, but they weren’t $300 when I bought them. Prices have gone up. My lines and sending unit were total rust balls so it was better to replace all of it. I also added an in-line quick disconnect fuel filter as I wasn’t sure how much rust I dropped into the tank when I replaced the sending unit… peace of mind!

    • @peteysquirrelchaser9028
      @peteysquirrelchaser9028 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I installed the Dorman stainless hard-line kit last summer on my 06. Had to cut the fuel line up in the trans tunnel to get it in place to the back of the motor (coupled it back together with a piece of injection hose) but otherwise it all went well. Wasn't cheap but it fits as well the factory lines and I won't ever need to revisit it in the remaining life of the vehicle.

    • @davelennie1591
      @davelennie1591 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peteysquirrelchaser9028 yeah I looked at maybe doing hard lines instead but it looked like it would be a nightmare to fish them through the route. I got some P-clips to hold the stainless flexi lines in place and it was easy peasy lemon squeezy.

    • @peteysquirrelchaser9028
      @peteysquirrelchaser9028 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davelennie1591 They came in three sections that couple together, the two sections along the frame rails were easy (aside from having to unmount but not disconnect the ABS pump for clearance) but the one from the flex where Wes fixed to the motor wasn't. I took my time and got it all situated as factory lines. I pulled the bed off and redid the nylon from the fuel pump to the metal also. Aside from the one cut I made in the trans tunnel it was gravy. I also flushed about a gallon of fuel through before I hooked to the motor.

    Ive used the clamp and hose method for some time....and now thanks for planting that terror in my head. Truth be told, when I did the fuel lines on both my Continentals, that was over 10 years ago, and didnt have the flare tool and whatnot, though I do like the plastic hose. Looks more original than the hose (though I think from the factory they were doing that in the early 70s).

    Just my 2 cents, whenever I make a repair like this I keep a tin of real thick oil based paint in my box to coat it. Since it’s dissimilar metals you really want to keep any salty moisture out otherwise you end up with a battery and galvanic corrosion. Compared to some of the encrusted vehicles I've seen on your channel, that Sierra looked pretty good.

    I had to do this when replacing my filter (bad clog) but with steel tube, I'm a bit shocked you didn't replace ALL the line. All the spots it goes thru the support brackets are easily rusted 3/4 of the way thru, an extra 2ft of nylon would have been worth future proofing it.
