Super interesting, Jill & Charles. I didn’t even realize this was “a thing” until you all headed out to do this. What a wonderful way to see a new part of the world and to contribute to our country’s greatest treasures.
Thanks Michelle! I guess we first heard about work camping when we spoke to a full-time RV couple while we were in the process of buying our camper. We were intrigued.

What a great group of folks you all are!! That was a very nicely done video 👍. Questions: I would think that summer volunteers are of utmost importance in order to oversee the watering holes? Are they able to get volunteers to come and endure the summer heat? And do think you two will continue to do this sort of volunteering in the winters? On the one hand I would enjoy seeing a Vermont winter thru your videos, but on the other hand I really enjoy this experience. I've learned to really appreciate the desert thru watching the videos of nomads. And yours all the more so as you are immersed in it's care and protection. Well done!! Hi Meg, I'm afraid the wildlife refuge complex doesn't even try to recruit volunteers for the summer, as the desert becomes basically unlivable (especially off-grid, for the position that involves checking on the wildlife drinkers). The USFWS refuge staff (and Arizona Game & Fish staff) take on that job and any other essential outdoor tasks in the summer. They start their day super early to beat the heat.
As for our own future travels... We definitely plan to spend next winter in Vermont, but future work camping experiences in 2025 or beyond are definitely on the table (our next one may even be a summer job; stay tuned!)
Thanks! Maybe, do a video on the actual RV sites, with some specifications. For instance, what electrical outlets do they have? If they have a NEMA-50 outlet, what is the breaker rating? What do people do for internet? How is cell coverage?
We appreciate your support! We were not inclined to invade our fellow volunteers' personal space by filming their rigs (and another video shoot is not likely with the locations being quite far apart from each other and everyone having different work schedules)... but we can definitely ask about those specs and get back to you in the comments.
