I just wanna say that I really, really hope you all end up enjoying this hack. I’ve wanted to make a hack like this for years, this has been my dream since I first got into disassembly hacking in 2020, and thanks to PvK along with so many others, including Ema Skye, LuciShrimp, Albatross, Thorn Avery, LadyMisticus, Zeta_Null, jojobear13, Rainbow Metal Pigeon and even more, I’m happy to call this hack one of the greatest things I’ve ever helped to make. Everyone involved has done so much, whether that be contributing sprite art, music, bug fixes and minor suggestions, even making a whole spreadsheet documenting Pokémon stats, locations and other parts about the game, and I can’t thank them enough! We’ve really tried our best with this, and I’ve loved working on this for the past year and a half with everyone. It’s helped me out so much, and I hope you’ll be able to see the effort we’ve put into making this when playing it. Thanks for reading what I have to say, and I hope you enjoy it! :3 - Martha’s Against Humanity 💜
Hi it's Ema Skye and I'm gonna piggyback off of Martha's comment. Shit it finally happened! This has been a ride and I'm so grateful I got to be a part of it and I learned so much about my own capabilities through this (none of us knew a line of ASM before this started). This project got me through some really tough times and was an anchor when I needed it. I still feel awful that I had to step away a year ago when work got so busy, but the shoutout I got at the end made me tear up haha. PvK and Martha are incredible people and it was a privilege to work with them here. PvK - from one teacher to another, I know you'll do great things with your TEFL program. It looks like I'll miss you on KarmaCord for the next while during this phase of your life but I am glad to see that you are taking what you need. You need a break, you've more than earned it. I admire so much about you, particularly your ability to fully commit to something without wavering. I know you will do great things for your students. Martha - you have shown me how much someone can take an idea and run with it, as well as the sheer resilience of never giving up when things get challenging. We better ourselves when we show our resilience. You've also shown me that you can take 'pie in the sky' ideas and turn them into a reality with enough determination to see it through to the end.
GameFreak tries very hard to pretend Pikachu doesn't evolve. It's honestly surprising we even got Alolan Raichu at all. That said, I'm still crossing my fingers in hope that with Legends Z-A we could maybe see Raichu get a mega form based on Gorochu.
Being a part of this project has been an absolute honor, thank you so much for the opportunity. And to everyone who'll play this: Have fun with this passion project!
Luci, I see this mod aims to go for the yellow version style sprites of trying to replicate their real designs into Gameboy form. As Yellow is the best Gen 1 sprite wise for their improved graphics, was that the point of using a Yellow version style line of models?
@@Thomasmemoryscentral As Pokémon Yellow is the best Gen 1 sprite wise for their improved graphics, the point of using a Yellow version style line of models was to imitate the look of Pokémon Yellow, which is the best Gen 1 sprite wise because of their improved graphics. Hope this helps 👍

Great hack! The added diversity is a real improvment to Kanto. More interesting gym fights and a really nice post game to just make the OG ending less abrupt I understand there's no desire to do further work on this title, but there's one beta pokemon I would really have loved to have in the game - Beta Gyarados. I lvoe that beast and it's my hope to someday see it return.

I have just 100% the game, and wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! I have not replayed Red since I was a kid, but this brought back so many memories of the first time through a Pokemon game - finally beating the elite 4 on a field trip! There was so much nostalgia playing through Kanto. Sure, I've played Firered and even Let's Go, but this project represents something that the official games lack - and that is a love for the project: Every new area that popped up was exciting -- providing a breath of fresh air and unfamiliarity to a game I thought I could play with my eyes closed. The QoL improvements were certainly appreciated though; I never really even bothered using the bike and I bought so many shady Safari Balls! I found Citrine City to be everything I could want as a postgame city. It would have been so exciting to have played this version as a kid, but I still appreciate it now. I will even go as far as to say that my headcanon has been modified by this game - 'C City' would have worked well as a postgame feature, even if they had never meant for it to be. I found the increased mix of pokemon on each route to be perfect! I've always played through games as a catcher, so this proved to be just the thing to scratch that itch. The sheer amount of in game trades was also quite interesting. I went the Gorochu route, as I was primarily wanting to use cut content and other pokemon I never got the chance to use. Years ago, I tried trading a Raichu after hearing that trainer claim theirs had evolved. We didn't have the internet yet, so I had no way of knowing that was a mistake. Years later, learning that Gorochu was cut content made kid me justified. I just want to say thank you to the entire team for creating this romhack. I only found this about 2 weeks before it was released. I was just searching for a Kanto+ experience originally - something akin to the extra routes added in HG/SS. This scratched that itch completely, such that it's only the 3rd game I've completely completed the dex (Red, Diamond, KEP). Thanks for a wonderful experience!
I had a friend of mine help me get this on the Miyoo handheld and I am having a blast with it. However, I want to make a note that if you get the expansion pack directly on Pokemon Red, you will loose colors and have to just to be satisfied with the shader options.
This is amazing. I always wanted to see an ultimate version of Gen 1, with all of the variants to Kanto’s Mon. Sure, not all of them are here like the babies. And some other post-game elements from FR and LG would be cool, but this is still an amazing project to see finished.
Yeah, I wanted to add the Sevii Islands, but ran out of map space. In another world I'd have refactored the IDs to be 16-bit, but it's insane, just not my wheelhouse.
This looks like a really wonderful ROMhack, looking through some of the documentation now and I like a lot of the changes. Very glad none of the battle bugs were fixed, love that shit
Just started playing this and it looks awesome! A suggestion: you could add the possibility to choose instant healing at Pokemon centers (so that you don't have to click through the 3-4 screens of text but it would just heal your Pokemon with talking to the nurse with pressing A once), I think this option was in one of the Pokemon Crystal rom hacks I played but not sure if it can be implemented in Gen 1.
There's definitely a way to do it - checking whether the player's talked before, setting an event, and checking if the event is set to skip the text and, finally, make the player face away. I honestly didn't think of it. Could bring it up in the Discord server, or add it to the source code yourself if nothing comes of it. It **shouldn't** be a hard thing to add.
This hack is so cool! It felt like playing these games for the first time again. Thanks y'all. EDIT: it's been fixed! HUGE note to folks though: when teaching TMs, I suggest you make good useage of save states. I know the TM/HM crashing bug is documented, and saving often has already been recommended, but I only saved in-game before teaching the post-Safari zone HMs. The game crashed a few times, I reloaded and tried again, but it eventually corrupted the data and erased my save file. Had I used emulator save states I'd still be playing. No big deal, this hack is amazing either way, and it's far from a life or death situation. But if you're someone who is sinking real hours into this game make sure you use emulator save states!
Sweet! I'll check it out ASAP. Again, thanks for this! This hack feels like all the stuff I imagined was just hidden out of sight in the original games actually came true.

The gbc games have a strange charm that I have not been able to replicate in the current ones, I am very happy that they still make hackroms of these games. Thank you very much for making this possible, you guys are great
@@PlaguevonKarma also sorry for bothering but uh.. is Goruchu in the game (I forgot the exact name but it's the thing that Raichu was gonna evolve into) Edit: I got the question answered nevermind!
Just a couple minor nitpicks: change Totartle to Water/Rock, and change Yujiro's name to fit the Gen 1 English Gym Leader naming convention (a real name that also references the type they're using). Possibly "Vance" after vanilla, since he uses Normal-types. Or "Joe" after the phrase "Average Joe".
This is something you can do through editing the source code - not every change I've made is agreeable and it's nice to let people make their own experiences. We considered Rock/Water Totartle but there's two already, so it didn't make much sense.
Oh wow I’m surprised it came out this quickly (pos) Either way, I’m excited to try it out! Oh wow it’s Open Source too? That’s absolutely amazing, but question: are other hacks allowed to use names, features, Pokémon etc from this hack in theirs (with credit ofc)
There is an Open Source Policy in the readme for your viewing. In general, everything is allowed, so long as you credit the hack and the individuals involved.
10:35 The kids know that one, someone turned it into a Friday Night Funkin' mod. A lot of old creepypasta have somehow survived due to FNF. Also Stangled Red is one of the more well-known Pokepastas from what I've heard, as overhyped as it is
Gen 1 Pokemon is my favorite game to replay, but the team options are so limited, this is amazing I love having so many Pokemon I can use. And the post game is brilliant. I’m going to do a full on hardcore Nuzlock in my next play through
Just a question as I'm currently playing through the game and I got a bit confused. You say you've added the three types, and i noticed it is there like with the Eeveelutions, but how come you didn't give these types to those who were changed into them? (Magnemite = Steel. Clafairy = Fairy etc) Feels kind of off..
I explain this in another video: It didn't make sense for the Pokemon in question. Clefable and Wigglytuff are very much defined by their Normal STAB in Gen 1. Most of their learnset is Normal, they use Body Slam and Hyper Beam a lot, very little about them resembles their modern incarnations. By foisting Fairy onto them, they end up becoming significantly worse, even with learnset changes. Sure, Wigglytuff keeps the Normal type, but I think it would end up being extremely odd given how I approached changing things here. With Magneton, I think it actually benefits it a lot. By keeping Steel at Magnezone, a Stone Evolution, the player has agency to use Magneton as it originally existed, or Magnezone as it would have. Magneton is faster and doesn't have the weaknesses of the SpaceWorld Steel I imported, while Magnezone can use its stronger and more varied attacks. I prioritise familiarity in this mod, so in cases where it would go awry, I try to avoid it.
I'm playing this hack rom on my personal flash card, I'm at the post game, it's wonderful, one of the most beautiful first gen hackroms ever, beautiful new areas to explore and the sprites of the beta pokemon, in the future there will be possibility of also introducing the pre-evolutions of the Alolan and Hisui Pokemon?

The gbc games have a strange charm that I have not been able to replicate in the current ones, I am very happy that they still make hackroms of these games.
Thank you very much for making this possible, you guys are great
Happy New Year, awesome game boys
Yoooooo let's go!
I'm almoat finished completing my pokedex in Crystal Legacy so this couldn't have dropped at a better time, can't wait!
Congratulations!
Commenting to help with the algorithm
Will you eventually do a Johto Expansion?
Almost definitely not, I'm a very tired lass to say nothing else.
it's available as a very early alpha showdown mod, but the hack would be gargantuan and if it does happen it'll probably take like 3 years
It’s being worked on it seems
Oh hell yes ill have to check this out. Femc is a great additoon i wasnt expectin
I've been waiting for this! Now to figure out how to put it on my mobile emulator-
There are patchers available for mobile if memory serves.
@@PlaguevonKarma yeah I remembered I got unipatcher and just patched it, can't wait to play!
@@PlaguevonKarma also sorry for bothering but uh.. is Goruchu in the game (I forgot the exact name but it's the thing that Raichu was gonna evolve into)
Edit: I got the question answered nevermind!
Yay! I will download it when I get home from work.
10:36 Yoooooo a Strangled Red reference
So stoked this is finally out without me having to learn assembly to play it. Seeing Gen 1 remastered by people who understand Gen 1 is great.
Congratulations! Wish you the best! I know it's early yet but any plans on a physical cart for it?
No, but it works on flashcarts like the EZFlash Jr
this rocks, i'll defo give it a go !
Awesome work! Can't wait to play it!
Is the creepypasta Strangled Red? In which a Charizard dies during trading?
Yep!
So I was wondering, why add a prevo for zubat when it was already a 3 stage line? Like I get not including the babies but it feels like an odd choice
Because it was cut in RG. All known scrapped Pokemon are included.
Absolute legend
Oh wow I’m surprised it came out this quickly (pos)
Either way, I’m excited to try it out!
Very glad you did this
Quick question will it randomize with standard randomizers?
Also now to plan the nuzlocke of this
ROM Hacks don't work with randomisers due to the data shifts. It can be nuzlocked, though.
Challenge accepted @@PlaguevonKarma
I'd argue having hisuian growlith over meltan would make more sense. I haven't played yet, just a thought based on the video
It would mean adding literally everything else, but there isn't the space for it, as I said in the video.
Time to sweep with amnesia once again😂😂😂
I feel like a spoiled kid, thank you so much for all the people that worked on this❤
Looks awesome!! Just wanted to say its kinda hard to parse what your saying. Had to turn on subtitles
My accent is very particular, so I use my scripts to make subtitles. Born and raised in the mountains!
10:35 The kids know that one, someone turned it into a Friday Night Funkin' mod. A lot of old creepypasta have somehow survived due to FNF. Also Stangled Red is one of the more well-known Pokepastas from what I've heard, as overhyped as it is
Omg i subscribed to u a few months ago w bell on so i could get the game when it dropped and i totally forgot about it im exited to finally play this
I'm so hyped to play this rom hack. I want to make one of my own one day
Gen 1 Pokemon is my favorite game to replay, but the team options are so limited, this is amazing I love having so many Pokemon I can use.
Clafairy = Fairy etc)
Feels kind of off..
Kotora Gaming.
I loaded up the game and was immediately paralyzed by choice. Nice work!
Injected into my 3ds at lightspeed
I'm playing this hack rom on my personal flash card, I'm at the post game, it's wonderful, one of the most beautiful first gen hackroms ever, beautiful new areas to explore and the sprites of the beta pokemon, in the future there will be possibility of also introducing the pre-evolutions of the Alolan and Hisui Pokemon?
As explained in the video, there's no space. We did attempt, but we didn't get further than some sprites being made for the Hisui prevos.
