Great video! First video to hear directly from a Rivian designer about the R2 going to have a rear wiper. I was concerned it wouldn't.
I didn't realize at the time, but he is actually the lead of special projects at Rivian and was something like the 4th employee there. I wish I had known then and would have spent more time with him. Sorry also about the horrible audio quality, I've since upgraded my microphone set up so hopefully future videos will be even better. Can't wait to continue to share more of the Rivian and other EV story.

Rivian should seriously consider a R2 with a 3rd row (think Model Y 3-rows) Many families are looking for a smallish SUV with a small 3rd row for their growing family and 2 rows pretty much are ruled out for them.
I'd love an R1S, but it's cost prohibitive. The R2 will hopefully be the answer. My deposit is in. I'm a little worried with the lack of Rivian infrastructure in Canada (Ontario). Really hope the 2 year wait will give those things time to build up in our area.

Love it! I will actually be up in Montreal this summer and plan to check out some of the infrastructure there with our R1S. I think it will be fascinating to see how things work across the border.
Hopefully two years will give it time to come along a way. Rivian is doing great with their chargers but there definitely aren’t enough yet.
Although the audio is not good, it sounded like the Rivian spokesperson said (at about 31.04) that the R2 will come with an optional spare tire. This is the first time I have heard anyone from Rivian "officially" address the spare tire. For those of us out West, we can have spotty cell service in some areas due to low population and/or mountainous terrain. For us, a tire repair kit does not cut it. I've had two friends and family members get stranded with their EV due to the tire damage being too severe for the repair kit to fix. (Tires these days are seemingly engineered for light, light weight for better fuel economy or range, and are not necessarily as sturdy as they were a few years ago.) The flat tires resulted in an hours long wait by the side of the road until they eventually got a flatbed tow to a tire repair shop. It's a big relief that Rivian said they intend to have a spare tire option. Even a compact spare is better than nothing.
They could always just buy an ev spare from Modern Spare
@@patrick7228 For me, the issue is if Rivian configures a place to put the spare tire and jack, under the rear load floor. If you are suggesting strapping a spare inside the rear storage area, in my mind that would defeat the purpose of an SUV, and would not be acceptable to me.

Like it, want to place an order, but really want the R1S. Currently have a Bronco Sport and feel like the R2 is only slightly larger than that. Decisions decisions.
Lease the R1S now and put your r2 deposit in. Can enjoy your rivian now and decide later if you keep the R1S or get the R2
I definitely support this idea if you can make it work. I don’t know the bronco like super well but I did check out the Sport at the auto show to compare it. I think they are very comparable in size. The R2 might be a tiny bit longer. It’s a really great size between having a ton of space and being too big.
Any idea if the fronk will have a drain for ice?
Does not currently look like it but they did say the one on display wasn’t production intent yet. I think there’s a decent chance they’ll listen to feedback there and add it knowing people like to use it for tailgating.
Love how it looks. The only thing I will criticize is the charging port, why it has to be in the other side instead of the driver side? Everyone knows that still will create issues on Teslas superchargers and common sense dictate that not all ev chargers will be retrofitted at the moment of the release. Make it easy Rivian come on.
Apart from Tesla chargers being an issueI actually like the choice ok there. Though I will say the front left is perfect for us on the R1S with our garage and it’s much easier to pull in rather than back into a charging port. It sounded like they haven’t made the final decision though and it could definitely still change before production starts.
