So weird… because of the US elections I don’t want to be on social media or watch the news so I decided to really throw my time into learning more Português. I search and found this channel and like the first lesson and went to subscribe and check the comments. This was the first comment I read and I was like wow! Because I have also been married to a Brazilian for 14 years and that coincidence makes it seem like I found the right channel to help learn! 🥳🤩
You know what could make this even greater if you have like sentences from the words we’ve learned at the end of the video so we can just try out what we have learned and then we know what we have forgotten and weak points etc!! But honestly best learning of a language I’ve come across keep it up!
I really loved the format of this video! Breaking down the words, allowing the audience to say the word phrase before repeating it twice and showing real life examples. It was really helpful! I’d appreciate more videos like this ! Thank you!
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew this seems very similar to the Language Transfer method. Are you a tutor? I've been looking for a teacher that uses that method for Portuguese
I speak several European languages well but find spoken Brazilian Portuguese very difficult to understand. I'm off to Brasil again soon so I'm very pleased to have found these lessons.
This is by far the best tutorial I've come across for learning ANY new language. Your teaching style, and the way you format and edit the video is beyond superb. Your voice, energy, and presence is also top-notch. You deserve much praise and support for your work. Keep it up. And THANK YOU :)

Hi teacher I appreciate for the easier way that u are teaching Portuguese I really need to learn Portuguese because I like it EU QUERO APERENDER PORTUGUESE PORQUE EU GOSTO.
Sim. Eu quero aprender muito mais. Yes. I like that you make a distinction between English, Spanish and Brazilian pronunciation. Since I'm bilingual in English and Spanish, your tutorial helps a lot.
I really needed a discipline I could follow for the sake of speaking Portuguese as I have lived in Brazil for two years with my Brazilian wife. Thank you for the this method. It has a nice rhythm to it making my mind work quickly.
Your content has made it so, so much easier fo rme to understand Portuguese. Thank you so much and look forward to your continued videos....absolutely love it.
Oh, muito obrigada 🥰 It’s perfect … learning pronunciation step by step is exactly what I need in the beginning. I have tried many other TH-cam videos on pronunciation, but I haven’t found anything this good. I started studying Portuguese with Duolingo a couple of months ago. I have gained vocabulary from there, but it’s not enough for comprehensive learning of the language. I’m going to continue my journey with you, porque eu quero aprender português e eu gosto muito da língua, é linda 💚💛💙🤍
Just watched the video and I'm amazed by your progress in Portuguese, not to mention the quality of the video! If this is really just your first video, I can't even imagine what they will be like once you've gotten 15-20 under your belt. Subscribed and thanks for the shout out!
This is by far the best video I have ever seen or listened to on pronunciation in a foreign language. Several years ago (before the Internet and TH-cam) when tutoring German for English speakers , I would explain the placement on where the tip of the tongue should be in relation with the back of the teeth and the roof of the mouth. Something I came up with on my own to help English speakers.... Now I guess I kind of feel justified in my idea all those years ago. Excellent video thank you so much!!
I love this lesson, you made it very very simple for me to learn sentence constructions and pronunciations. I can really use this......I commend you, good work. Muito obrigado.
Thank you very much Andrew! Very helpful, very productive and natural way to learn Portuguese! Well done! You have a talent for teaching! Keep doing these videos! Wish you to get mls of followers for this channel!
Thank you so much! ❤ I’ve been hitting a wall with studying Portuguese, but these lessons (even though they were from a year ago, and I already know most of the words) really helped me memorize the language and sentence structure a lot better. 🎉
Ola! Due to my job, I’ve been to São Paulo five times, and each time, I was impressed by the nature and the way people communicate with each other. I want to be in Brazil again next year for the Rio Carnival, and it would be great to speak a little Portuguese by then. That's why I'm here. I'm Turkish. I was really struggling with pronunciation and was a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to learn it, but after watching many other videos, coming across this one eased my mind. Because I think pronunciation is the most important aspect. Thank you for helping each of us on our journeys. Greetings from Turkey.

I love your channel. I just did this first lesson. I listened and wrote things out. It flowed very well. Im excited to learn from you! Thank you for this channel.
Dude! You are an AWESOME teacher! I love listening to you and learning. The way you taught me (and others) how to pronounce the words by placing my tongue in certain spots and to feel the air come out a certain way when I was practicing speaking it - WOW! That's *MUITO lindo* e útil.! And Yes I had to use Google Translate to translate the last part of that sentence, but using it helps a lot too. 😎👍

Coming back to this and wanted to see if that intuition you briefly touched upon in a comment you left in lesson 2 is guiding me in the right direction. (Google translate seems to not be the best for brazilian portuguese) @9:49 Eu quero muito fazer means "I really want to do" If I wanted to say "I really don't want to do" would it be translated to portuguese as "Eu nao muito fazer"? Additionally if we were to be more descriptive and take "Eu quero fazer muito mais" and say... "I really don't want to do more" Would it translate as 'Eu nao quero fazer muito mais"? or does it start getting into exceptions territory?
Yes, all you do is add "não" before the verb to negate. I wouldn't use Google Translate, it will often give you the translation in standard, written Portuguese, rather than how a native speaker would say naturally say it in a casual conversation. A better resource is using an AI tool like ChatGPT or Claude (I use Claude) and ask it "How to say X in colloquial Brazilian Portuguese". Another great tool to see how a specific phrase is used in context is www.filmot.com. Let's say you wanted to see the phrase "Eu não quero muito fazer" in context. All you do is enter that in the search box and it will give you a list of TH-cam videos that contain that phrase in its captions. This is an extremely useful tool if you're ever wondering "Do people actually say X?" or "How is X used in the real world?" Hope this helps!
I REALLY enjoyed this video! I have been using an app (Babel) to learn Portugeus and I also hired a tudor, which has all been wonderful: however, the way he patiently and methodically explained how to property pronounce certain words/sounds REALLY helped me! For example, how to pronounce the p and t in Português! I loved it. Eu amo. Question: when is it fala or falar? Example: He said, "I want to speak" is "Eu quero falar." Falar with R at end. But in the app, when the sentence is "I only speak English" it's "Eu só falo inglês." So, when is it eu falar and eu falo???
I found the pronunciation to be rather simple the way you explained it. The tongue movement for the r sound is basically the exact same as the r sound in Japanese so I picked that one up really easily. I've missed learning languages

Glad you enjoyed it Derek! I have an entire video on verb conjugations which should make it clearer for you: th-cam.com/video/Mii9OopUePg/w-d-xo.html
I really enjoyed watching that was the best way to learn thanks 🙏❤
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
I found the pronunciation to be rather simple the way you explained it. The tongue movement for the r sound is basically the exact same as the r sound in Japanese so I picked that one up really easily. I've missed learning languages
Awesome, thanks for sharing and don't stop!
I really enjoyed this lesson.
So great to hear that! Lesson two is waiting for you :)
