as a chinese who is learning portugese, your way of teaching is so much better to understand the real portuguese language. i have learned so much from you. thank you for the great job.
This is saving my life currently. I've been studying Spanish for a decade, and the process of learning Portuguese has been more about unlearning Spanish pronunciation. It's interesting how similar they are, while being so completely different. Thank you for your help!
I'm with you. Learning the words is super easy since I know a lot of Spanish. The pronunciation is MUCH harder. This video is definitely helpful but even so, I find myself slipping into Spanish pronunciation when trying to follow along with him.
You are the best! Seriously! I wish you all the best and wish all the brazilian learners will find you! You really deserve it and I appreciate your teaching abilities so much. Muito Obrigado !
This is top level stuff, your clear perfectly pace and calming tone and way of constructing the material to really stick and consume along with background information on certain things is remarkable. I literally stumbled across your playlist and so glad I did, new subscriber, excellent!
Andrew, I am wanting to express to you and your online community what a "real gift" your TH-cam Video teaching Platform is... for all whom are blessed to receive it. You are a exceptional instructor; not only for your knowledge of the language structure and grammar; but additionally, for your teaching perspective and abilities, on how to transfer your knowledge to your constituency. An' to further to "top off your skillset," you have excellent diction, in both Portuguese and the English languages. Note; that fact alone, makes you a more gifted and talented "language instructor." I have no doubt, that this (teaching) is your reason; for being in this "earthly plane." You were sent to give and share your knowledge with others. It is my wish... that each person that is being helped (by/thru) your video teachings, bring you, in return, the CREATOR's Blessings and the "Karmetic Blessings" your deserve. I respectfully, salute you... not only for your abilities; but for your willingness to share your knowledge with the rest of the "non-Portuguese speaking persons" of the world. Please know and remember... your work is not going unnoticed or unappreciated. You Rock !!! ...and please keep up the good work.
You are a saint. This whole lesson structure is perfect it’s super simple and seems to sink in the best for me. I really appreciate you creating this series
Thank you so much for your support! Truly hope that it helps you in your language learning journey. Just trying to give back for a language that has given me so much.
Muito obrigado! (Now I'm going to listen to "Não Chore Mais" by Gilberto Gil -- a really good version of "No Woman No Cry" -- never heard it before you mentioned him here.)
Glad you find them useful, Zeno! Let me know if there's a specific type of video format that you especially like so that I can make more of them. Trying to take this channel more seriously and upload consistently instead of posting once every few months, so any input is greatly appreciated! -Andrew
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew your format is great! It’s hard to find videos with spoken/conversational Portuguese so your videos are so helpful in that regard!! Do you offer classes or private lessons?
I don't offer classes, but more and more people have been asking about creating a course, which I might consider. Right now I just want to focus on building out my library of content on YT. In any case, I'd love to take this conversation offline so I can pick your brain to see how I can better tailor my content...if you're down, hit me up on IG or Twitter!
This is awesome! Finished the 9 lessons and doing a deep dive into your pronunciation videos as you recommended! Knowing Spanish is definitely a double edged sword 😂
For sure! And having the advantage of approaching it with a built in vocabulary of words that sound similar already certainly makes things a little easier on my tired and aging brain 😂
Óla, Andrew 😊 I found you have succeeded in creating a perfect teaching method for Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation 👌🏼 I am completely enamored and have lost my heart to this beautiful language 💚💙💛🤍 You are truly dedicated and give your whole captivating personality to us 🫶🏼 Muito obrigada I’m so happy I found your excellent, very clear video tutorials 🙏 P.S. It would be fun to hear how you pronounce my name, which is Sirkku Talvikki Kurikkala Quite a lot of K-letters 😉😉
I just started learning Portuguese a couple of days ago and this channel has been my best resource yet. I do have a question. You mention that the letter "o" is pronounced as "u" as the English word "boot". Why can I still hear the "o" sound when you pronounce it? For example, in the Portuguese word "vivo" I can still hear the "o" sound and not "vivu". Thank you.
If you're just a beginner and don't understand anything, it probably won't help much. If you're more intermediate and understand at least 60-70%, then yes.

That’s the same for me! I am trying to learn Portuguese but always got confused with the pronunciation!
exactly!! same same but different! it’s like a tongue twister!
I'm with you. Learning the words is super easy since I know a lot of Spanish. The pronunciation is MUCH harder. This video is definitely helpful but even so, I find myself slipping into Spanish pronunciation when trying to follow along with him.
For me it's not necessarily the pronunciation but if I don't know a word I resort to a word I know in Spanish which could be the wrong word.
Just started learning Portuguese on Duolingo and was so confused lmao. This channel is helping out a lot. Thank you/
Welcome and happy to help!
I've just started Portuguese (I teach French and Spanish by profession). Your channel is the GOAT for learning Portuguese! Subscribed!

I appreciate it! It is pronounced like "oo"
Some of these seemed obvious and just seemed natural to me like "fruta". Others like "roupa" were unexpected
Will watching my favorite tv show in portuguese help?
Was thinking of binging all of Star Trek to see if id get anywhere in learning.

Im a castillian spanish speaker and i keep wanting to pronounce z and c as th 😅😅
THE GOAAAT
I noticed, the "H" in "Hoje" is silent.
that's right
The H is always silent in the begining of a word.
