Focusing on pronunciation right from the beginning is important if you want to be able to speak Portuguese well. This video is the first of three which will expose you to some of the most common pronunciation patterns of the language.

This is saving my life currently. I've been studying Spanish for a decade, and the process of learning Portuguese has been more about unlearning Spanish pronunciation. It's interesting how similar they are, while being so completely different. Thank you for your help!

I'm with you. Learning the words is super easy since I know a lot of Spanish. The pronunciation is MUCH harder. This video is definitely helpful but even so, I find myself slipping into Spanish pronunciation when trying to follow along with him.
For me it's not necessarily the pronunciation but if I don't know a word I resort to a word I know in Spanish which could be the wrong word.

Some of these seemed obvious and just seemed natural to me like "fruta". Others like "roupa" were unexpected

This is awesome! Finished the 9 lessons and doing a deep dive into your pronunciation videos as you recommended! Knowing Spanish is definitely a double edged sword 😂
It is, but still definitely a huge advantage!
For sure! And having the advantage of approaching it with a built in vocabulary of words that sound similar already certainly makes things a little easier on my tired and aging brain 😂
