  • In this video series, Calc looks at the experimental side of our Peak Synth and the Circuit Mono Station.
Calc takes you though how to create a self generating patch using our Novation Peak synthesiser. He explores modulation matrix, the FM aspects of Peak and demonstrates how to create a patch that is… a little bit other-worldly.

Chris is a great mentor, really knows his stuff - he showed me what the Peak can do at the ADE event in The Netherlands. Really impressive synth and a great teacher.

4 super impressive things I spotted in this video:
    1.) Calc's Watch.
    2.) Calc's Moustache.
    3.) The PEAK.
4.) The fascinating sound demonstrated here. That was really interesting and well-explained. (Going to try that myself later. It's like having Wall-E in my PEAK, and that's a good thing).

One super impressive thing you missed; the poster of the cover of An Electric Storm by White Noise, a band decades ahead of their time, featuring synth pioneer Delia Derbyshire!

word Floyd. I noticed the "voice" popping up here and there in the random coolness.

And now with Peak 1.2 we have 2 more LFOs and can modulate FX parameters. Absolute killer.
    Thanks for the vid :D

Do you do a version of this with no vocals?

Afraid not. What kind of thing did you have in mind?

Totally bitchen bro. That synth is totally Gnar Gnar and off the chain. Smeagle wants it Smeagle needs it my PRECIOUS. So would it be possible to drive an external synth/module with the CV/midi generated by that patch set up. I've never had a modular but have a Dave Smith Pro 2 and my mind is dreaming up possibilities If I could get the CV/midi data to effect the Pro 2. such as drive sequencer or other destinations. Just a kooky thought. But ya, I neeeeedddssss it.

Glad you found this inspiring! The patch itself isn't generating any MIDI/CV that can be output. What kind of setup did you have in mind?

I used to have one of those old audio/line to midi converters from Roland (something 40) and that patch you made would be so killer to drive things like a sequencer, filter, pitch etc. It is probably likely that the Dave smith can get similar, but I was thinking if the peak was playing that patch and also controlling another synth to blend the audio outputs in a mixer to have a really heavy deep thing going on. I have always liked the "one finger symphony" approach .. I've had sooooo many hardware synths and regret selling most of them, but Peak def has some special qualities that where lacking in most of the other synths I've had. I see the prices for the vintage stuff and then I watch your tuts and realize that new is better for the most part. I will thrown in one more wish for a new synth . I had for a long time (when the 1st came out) a Yamaha RM1x. The sound was so so but it has a feature found nowhere else, that few realize. It has a program shift thing in the sequencer that is insane. When you select the notes to be affected it will shift up or down to other programs (sounds) so you can get insane variance in your sequence. I hooked it up to a external drum module (maybe a Yamaha ) from the early 90's and it was so awesome. I sold it all to much regret. It's that kind of thinking I'm talking about. Sorry to ramble but thanks for responding.
