Not sure if during your snooping you found out about this. But After getting to episode 25 of the original series you have a choice. Either watch Episode 25 and 26 or watch End of Eva. End of Eva was created as a replacement for 25 and 26 due to their negative reception. Also It's worth watching the directors cut of episodes 21-24, instead of the original version since they add some important scenes.
The other movies/OVAs aren't important. The rebuild series kind of is, but we won't know their plot significance until 3.0+1.0. And that's only because of some theories about them.
It can be argued that "End Of" isn't even supposed to be canon, since Anno only directed it after getting a lot of hate mail.
THAT ending was 100% intentionally made to piss the fans off.

Can confirm, i bought it when it was first released and noticed a few months later.
I fired off an email to Madman entertainment out of curiosity. This was in the late 90's early 00's.
They told me exactly this, and as a side note, since the DVD's rating was already M15+ same as the Chong documentary, there shouldn't be any issues with legality.
I no longer have access the that old email account but still have the full DVD set as well as the old (and worn) VHS promo poster

This was actually a very common thing in the early to late 2000's with bootleg DVDs. It's when pirates back in the day repurpose their porn DVDs that aren't selling into more popular titles like anime or videogames.
I bought Worms Armageddon during those days when I was 13 and wondered why it only came with 4 maps. After digging about the folders I found out 80% of the space was actually used for porn. I reckoned DVDs were not easily erasable back then and they simply slapped on whatever game that fit in the remainder of the space.
Not really a spooky story once you know what's actually going on and it's very likely that the OP bought pirated DVD and didn't want to admit it.

Right. This seems like a LOT more effort on the pirates than it's worth. So instead of wiping the DVD and just burning the game ISO as is or burning a smaller game which would at least fit, they build their own smaller vision version from the original disk and put it on the porn DVDs while leaving the porn?

Confusing as shit history
I've heard of Evangelion DVD menus being weird. The Death & Rebirth DVD menu changes the words from the standard "PLAY FEATURES" type stuff to eerie phrases like "YOU HAVE NOIMAGE OFSELF" and "WHY DO YOU EXIST?" which fit well with the existential themes of later Evangelion. So I thought it pretty likely that this would be an intentional easter egg, and was disappointed when it was declared a mistake.

Yeah it happens around the ending where all of a sudden there is Japanese texts swriling around everywhere. It was due to episodes 25-26 making no sense though that was due to running out of budget not ideas. Many sent threats so as a bravado he put them in the film.
zygas25 No, the last episodes meant to be the end and it made sense as the real story of Evengelion is Shinji getting over depression and anxiety, but the crazy shallow fans didn't realize it and sent death threats to Anno to make proper ending to what is the background story.

Hey as an Australian I think I can shed some light on why this went un-noticed for so long.
This dvd in particular seems to be from a set of collection DvDs where the consumer would buy the dvds over time. However this dvd had been released around 2001 and at that point you could get the entire series via VHS which was still doing fairly well in Australia at the time. It wasn't until about 2003-2005 that DvDs really took off in australia.
And with such a Niche series such as Evangelion it was probably some time until someone purchased this to watch. That being said it is also not too surprising to see this on the DvD as well. And I imagine some people (Even people watching this video at the start myself included) thought this might just be one of the Voice Actors doing a little bit of fan service in this specific case it could have just been a little homage of Misato's voice actor doing some fan service as a reference to the whole "A next time more fan service" line give at the end of each preview by her.
That is just my opinion anyway. I do recall seeing this on shelves when I was a teen but also not having a DvD player to watch it on so just going over to the VHS section instead = p

Petra Art Well for one thing Anno has said himself that most of the crazy things from the story had no real meaning and a great deal of the imagery was used solely to look cool because Eastern audiences were unfamiliar with Christianity at the time.
If there is a real meaning to the show its the subtext about Depression and acceptance of the self before you can help anyone else along with showing that morality is rarely black and white. Since that is what inspired him to create the series.

I can confirm this is true. I live in Australia. My elder brother had this DVD set (it was made by Madman), and I was looking at the extra features, and reading each of the character bios in each DVD (it's Shigeru, not Shigure). For one reason or another, I left it on each character, open without touching anything on the remote for an extended period. When I got to Shigeru's profile, this lady popped up for a few seconds! I got really confused why THIS popped up, because I didn't touch the remote at all or select anything. I left the profile and tried again and it happened again, but this time I messed with the remote while this lady was on screen, and the clip ended sooner than usual, if I remember correctly. Pretty sure I told my brother about it. Oddly, I was paranoid our parents would find this, but in retrospect, was kinda moot, since in the early episodes, Shinji has his hand straight-up planted on Rei's bare boob, so that clip of a lady in lingerie kinda pales, even if it is real footage.
I think it flew under the radar, because people would just exit out of the profile real quick, since those profiles are real short. You gotta leave the profile open for an extended period. And I'm fairly certain it wasn't an error. Pretty sure someone on staff in producing the DVD stuck it in, and Madman is forced to say it was an error to try avoid backlash.
EDIT: Was writing this partway while watching the video. I see you addressed who produced the DVD and how Shigeru's name was in error.
EDIT 2: I was about 13 or 14 at the time I think? I'm 31 now.
EDIT 3: Reading the comments, and people still talking like this is a bootleg DVD. It ain't bootleg. At the time, Madman was probably THE company for producing anime DVDs in Australia. Looking for an anime DVD? You'd go to Madman's selection of titles. Fairly certain if I asked my brother for the DVD, he'd still have it.

While Evangelion Has a completely different phonetic spelling, more akin to modern English where the Hard G is replaced with a soft G, such as in the word Angel, or Evangelical, referring to the Modern gospel. While in China, me and my family ended watching our fair share of bootleg VCDs (with censorship laws, finding legit american films was damn hard). 8:25 DVD authoring doesn't quite work this way. Almost all pro DVDs from the 2000's were made using Spruce DVD Maestro. You can't just drag any old clip by mistake or even a last second joke. The M2V and AC3 files need to be ingested into the authorware, and on top of that, menus only allow for one looping video per page, meaning you can't add a second clip to play after. The girl clip was baked into the video on the production side. I'm not sure why Madman tried to take the heat but I could guess.

I'm somewhat interested in this particular argument. Are DVD menus designed as normal video files? I would have thought you can only script them to play once or loop, not loop a finite amount of times then play something else. And the transition to the Annabel Chong video is also weird, whereas there is merely a hard cut back to the menu. Something doesn't add up here.
Also, the michaeldvd website claims the collection was released in 1997. So maybe the early DVD authoring processes were much different?

It was made before 2000. And at a small company in Australia. It is possible that it was added on Madmen's end especially in light of the fact that it came directly from another source they were distributing. Likely the egg trigger takes you entirely out of the menu to load this separate video. (you can see the trouble it has with the transition, similar to changing to a new menu) You would have to think of the button as having a timed button overlaid onto it that triggers and loads a separate media. It was likely intentional, but not by the original production team.
It looks like a DigiBeta tape error. Probably were re-using an old tape they didn't realize had been physically damaged, right at the point when the woman was on screen. When they tried to overdub it with the Evangelion DVD menu graphic, it wasn't able to record over that spot.
I thought at first I was getting trolled so HARD. Then you leveled and continued seriously, with a good balance of jokes peppered in. I dig this!

though it very well could've been a mistake, but it could be an Easter egg , in the movie 'the end of evangelion ' they have a bunch of strange clips towards the end because i believe they ran out of money for animation. they piece together random shots of children's drawings , random shots of the city, and people

I believe the popular pronunciation is a hard “g” EvanGelion. Though, I was first introduced to the series via the manga; so I had only read it and never heard anyone say it. I thought it was Eevan-Jeh-lion -lion like the animal. Nice vid! I’m actually glad there was an answer. Too many “creepy” videos end without having a conclusion and it’s just the person regurgitating the same story over and over. Though the explanation was simple, it’s a neat story!

Well when I was teenager (back in 2003) I bought a Evangelion DVD collection Edition from a store which claimed to sell original products, I bought that collection and I found the same video, I always though I was scamed, that the DVD was not original because of that video

I've seen this on an Eva DVD in the US. Given the weirdness of Evangelion I thought it was some artsy nonsense that just went over my head.

Yeah, I was a bit thrown by his comment that he didnt know where to start. NGE has a lot of side media in terms of manga/games/etc.. but in terms of actual animation, theres only been the orginal series, EOE and the rebuilds as far as I was aware.

I remember buying that Perfect Collection in 2003 back when I still watched anime. I didn't know there was any jitter reduction or editing because it was the only Evangelion I ever saw. The movie though I'm pretty sure I had to get separately and I wonder if they did anything to that particular dvd.

The documentary was edited in such a way to make it appear much more tragic and dark than things actually were. Grace is a pretty successful coder, and she's a very confident, well-adjusted person.
