I get most of what's happening in the original 24/25 but without any of the plot context introducesd in the movie other than a a few stills of tanging. So it's like I only have one half of the story to go off. A big issue with the original series is the questionable pacing in the last 5 episodes. Kaworu's relationship with Shinji comes and goes in the course of basically an episode, and then we only get half of the final two episode unless you watch End of Eva. I always say that you should watch 1-23, then End of Eva then the original 24/25, because the originals work best as a companion piece to End of Eva.
