There have been few guitarists in my 65 years that do to me what Steve Morse does. When he emotes on the guitar it's like a tuning fork that shakes my Soul. It shakes my inner core. It's the power of his tremolo, the notes that he plays, the bends, the tone - I just shiver and sometimes tears come to my eyes. THANK YOU, STEVEN!! I first experienced back in 1968 or 69 when I heard Jimi Hendrix's "All Along The Watch Tower" (Bob Dylan). It was Epic, Cinematic, JRR Tolkein - Lord Of The Rings. It has happened now and then to me. It has happened to me consistently since 1978 when I first discovered The Dixie Dregs. I am addicted to Morse's compositions and playing.
I saw Steve Morse playing with Deep Purple in 2020 right before the pandemic hit. He was one of my favorite guitarists when I discovered the Dixie Dregs and now even more so. The comment you wrote about the sound he gets from his guitar sums it up perfectly. His sense of melody and the beauty of his solos makes him one of the best playing today and in the history of guitar players. I am writing this a year later because Flying Colors is just about to release a new live album and following the videos led me to this video. Great stuff.
Steve Morse has been blessed by God Almighty - knew that since he was a young man in the Dixie Dregs, and its been confirmed again and again over the years - he is likely an Angel.. As for Neal, he is a great Elder and a mighty Saint of God for our times. Mike Portnoy is our modern day St. Peter.
What a genius,... not following the lead... but showing how such a common instrument can be p,aged in such a fresh and different style ... creative thinking and talent combined....what an amazing band on,y discovered them today 😊😊😊
"Underrated" meaning that "Flying Color's" isn't given the respect the deserve because of who they are and who they've worked with before. I think anyone who took the time to listen to this from start to finish knows how amazing they are. The rest of the world needs to know this too. Neal Morse is a stunning keyboardist - check out some early Spock's Beard. He's amazing and every bit as good (maybe better) than Banks, Wakeman, Downs, Moraz and a host of other progged keyboardists you may have heard.
@@d.r.mathias9648 cool 😎 ..i was sold when i saw him play with Deep Purple for the 1st time & got to know the beautiful tone & playability of MusicMan through Morse & Petrucci
Ron Thompson, Randy Rhodes and Neal Schon ruled guitar in the early days when Scott Joplin brought popularity to blues like music. The new music has been a large celebratory event for many millions of people. But new musicians are now pushing the sounds of rock into higher dimensions.
Everything about this band and the songs they do are absolutely inspiring. The vocal harmonies and musicianship are flawless. I cant get enough of this stuff. Amazing
to me, it sounds like he RE-RECORDED it in the studio, later. NO WAY is that a live vocal: there's NO fluctuations at all. (Not even the most skilled singer can make it sounds as SMOOOTH as studio.) Remember: all "live" albums have massive overdubs etc. (Even the crowd noise is fake on most!)
As if Portnoy could get any hotter... Really enjoyed this. Everyone here is so talented. And yeah, those harmonies omg 😍 Thanks for uploading this gem!
June is still one of my favorite Spock’s Beard songs. Interesting choice, pairing Repentance and it together. In retrospect, the last two songs of the Twelve Step Suite are my least favorites. Repentance and Shattered Fortress didn’t have the passion that Glass Prison, Dying Soul and Root of All Evil had in them.
There are comments about Mike Portnoy on autotune or pitch correction in this performance... But man, if you search raw materials with MP singing, he sounds just the way he did here...
I'm sure John was stoked his guitar hero covered one of his songs and ripped a killer solo of his own. Steve plays like Steve, and John like John, I would expect nothing else.
@@MartyDTVP Yes, and even too much, according to the rest of the band and I think they were fed up with this roar, which was unbearable for James LaBrie - Static Impulse (2010, InsideOut Music)

Repentance Part is actually very cool, portnoy singing like that is just insanely great ! But the solo sound shit to me, the JP one sound so much better
Had to scroll so far down to find someone who noticed this! It does sound like his vocals were re-done in post production. A little disappointed. He's usually a stickler for keeping doing things live and keeping them as is. Maybe his vocal part didn't turn out well during the live recording.
I bet Mike Mangini can't sing three-part harmony. Score another one for Portnoy! :-) What are the chances that one of the best drummers of all time is also a half-way decent vocalist? Amazing.
This song sounds much better with MP singing. That harmony!!! wow!
It's his song.
in this Mp3 version one can not always hear every man singing. So I assume, it's much better with lower downrates or lesser mastering! 😘
Steve Morse was Perucci's idol when he was young, now seeing Morse covering a song by Petrucci is pretty amazing!
Cheers! I had the exact same thought :) Plus Steve is playing with Petrucci's old time friend and drummer :) The world of musicians is a small one :)
Repentance was written by
Portnoy It is one of the five songs of his Twelve-step Suite. It is DT music, but Portnoy's lyrics, not Petrucci.
@@danox2676 He meant the solo...
for real
Dano X check your facts. Music by Dream Theater (JP, JR,MP and JM)
Only the lyrics are by MP
Just imagine Petrucci hearing an interpretation of his music by one of his biggest heros. Imagine the joy! Steve killed by the way!

Portnoy sings Very well, this Band is fantastic!
A lot of people knock his singing, but he really adds character.
@@donmcbass he might not be an exceptional singer but he did just fine here
It's autotune all the way, but sounds good anyway.
My god, the harmony... Inspirational!
reminded me of pagans mind
was so damn good
Dave is an amzing bass player
The best of contemporary prog what great songs beautifully preformed!
Great songs ! God bless you !
I can only imagine what JP would feel about this: how proud does one feel when one’s idol covers a song one’s written 😄
Man, what a SUPER BAND these guys are... Flawless, as simple as that
A great Spock’s Beard song. Perfect harmonies!

If there ever was a Super Group: These guys qualify‼️
Morse; Larrue; Morse; Portnoy and Cassie Mac❗
That's a world class line up‼️
...love this Band.Perfect harmony
I usually dislike when people change the original song on live versions but damn that solo.....m
They should do the whole 12 Step Suite.
Underrated? It's Steve Morse & Mike Portnoy for crying out loud! Ever heard of Dixie Dregs & Dream Theater??

I don't know why this should've been sung by MP in the original version. This version is so awesome!!

June a Spock's Beard's ckassic tune. Good times of Neal Morse.

It would!
Best!

OMG
Only Steve Morse is allowed to not do Petrucci's solos and have it be good.
Damn TH-cam adds in the middle of the guitar solo.. wtf? they sure know how to spoil good art and give people a shitty user experience.
Wish Steve kept Petrucci's solo. It's perfect.
Steve's was perfect too
