Flying Colors is Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals), Dave LaRue (bass), Neal Morse (keyboards, vocals), Casey McPherson (lead vocals, guitar), and Steve Morse (guitar). "This album has bits and pieces of what you'd expect from each of us," says Portnoy. "The sum of all its parts led to brand new, unchartered territory for everyone involved."
The formation of Flying Colors began with an idea from executive producer Bill Evans: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining together to make new-fashioned music...the old fashioned way. Real songs. Real instruments. Real music.
Refreshing, classic, old and new, the recordings are saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of the musicians themselves. Together, they create a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary rock.

I have been a huge fan of Steve Morse for over 35 years....Mike Portnoy (DT is my fave band!) over 25 years and I just found out about this project looking around on Amazon. I immediately bought both CD's and I absolutely love them! As brilliant as this is....it amazes me how little people know about music and the shit they listen to.

With these CD's, I found out about Neal and Casey and am now a fan of theirs! I have to ask....are you a member of the band? Thanks again.....
I agree. I was on Morse right after the Dregs split in1981....Amazing technician .. I have a feeling this was a two album project, or a floating one..Hella greatness to see PORTNOY with Morse..McPhearson nice surprise here ..Cool vocal chops amongst the fusion landscapes..Morse and crew killer!

I saw the Dregs in 1980 at Brasse's in Cocoa and tried to follow them but lost hope after Steve joined Kansas and Andy West transitioned into computers. Lo and Behold they reunited and toured across Fl where I saw them in Clearwater. NEVER thought they'd reunite. Flying Colors is just as Awesome! OK now there are vocals, so why don't the commercial networks play them? (That was the excuse the music industry gave Steve years ago when the Dregs were underpaid....)
I haven't heard anything this adventurous, yet with such melodic accessibility since Yes. Love it.

Yes definately comes to mind, but the way Neil Morse plays mellotron in this song also reminds me of Tony Banks' playing from Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.
Portnoy needs to quit grandpa chasing and get his ass back to DT already.

Steve Morse is one of my favorite guitar virtuoso's alive and well with such a wonderful touch on the fretboard only equaled by one other man Eric Johnson.. I hope Flying Colors comes to Rochester,ny or close by to see the band live!
I don't know why, or what for....but anything Neal or Mike does makes me want to revalue myself and my walk. They encourage me to higher places...Thank you Neal and Flying Colors.

It speaks to me like no other
This music isn't just epic, it's incredible. And also slightly tragic that most people on earth won't hear this - that said I have heard it and I love it! This now forms part of my DNA and I have no qualms shouting about it from the highest mountain from here until eternity and the end. Thank you and I swear when I can, I will be buying all the albums! What I love is that it's real music, not just a bunch of virtuosos shreading as fast as they can.
Plus.... Great video! As someone who likes making films too (not to your level) this is excellent work.

The BEST song on the debut album by far....a contemporary prog masterpiece actually! And a very good video to go along with it. All 5 musicians at the top of their game on this one. One can only hope there are some gems like this on the new one....
The beauty of Prog is that when you think that this is the end of the song, ..... the song unfold with beautifully writing music ... this is what happen at 4:40.....

I appreciate the art of this video... I am also a huge fan of Steve Morse and Mike Portnoy... Steve Morse is from my neck of the woods and his cousin Tony Morse played in several different bands and recorded with me- a great double bass drummer. I really love the music of Flying Colors... it reminds me a touch of some of the Dreggs, etc. mixed with DT, both very good and talented music. I have always loved most jazz/rock fusion and mixed with extreme progressive music is the shiznizz if you ask me. Of course I like any music that is REAL music, not just loops being fired [ many plagiarized at that! ] I particularly like the Second Nature album, but I like everything I have heard of Flying Colors, so far, and that is a task.
How did they get Portnoy? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge, huge Mike Portnoy fan but this is Steve Morse and Dave Larue we're talking about. Portnoy is a huge Dixie Dregs fan, I'm sure he's saying "how dud we get Steve Morse and Dave Larue?"
