They should test a slightly modded one. My GT500, stock was a joke, and felt like a low 13s car. Pulley, exhaust, 93 octane tune made 535rwhp! About 610 crank. Car is insane now! Its actually scary at full throttle. Amazing transformation. A set of lowering springs solves the excessive brake drive, and rear squat issues. A beast of a car!
these supercharged Mustang Shelbys have a problem: it doesn't lack power or need a newer engine, its problem is to how to put all that power on the road. Maybe a wider set of tires on the back would do miracles or it could also be weight distribution. It's a very nice car and once it's on the road is very quick but you can tell every stop light can finish in a smoke show due to that little issue
It not about the HP, its about the traction. Besides, 1/4 mile time is not indicative of speed, the terminal MPH is. With slicks a stock '10 GT500 will do high 11's.
Yah you can't go by these reviews because my 2010 supersnake ran a 10.66 at 140mph and stock stock tires before it was converted to a supersnake it ran a 11.9 at 119mph so not bad for a 3850lb car.
Looking back today, Motorweek guys are terrible drivers. I was doing 13.0 quarter mile with a 2010 GT with the 4.6 back in the day with 3.73 gears. I Nail the quarter mile under 12 with my 2012 Shelby with 3.73 gears as well, only mod is better tires then terrible Eagle F1. Some of those auto journalists are so bad at driving.
@GOBbluthagain yeah 4.5 0-60 is pretty slow for a sports car with 540 HP. A base Corvette is faster then this. I think this vehicle is way outdated and Ford needs to update it. Live rear axle needs to go, cast iron engine needs to go,needs to lose weight,plus get rid of the 5.4 modular engine {been around since 97}
Do you really not understand that it's traction limited and that is exactly why this is true? Look at the trap speed these have trapped as high as 119 on some tests I've seen that is far more than any gt regaurdless of year manual vs manual. The 10 speed auto has a huge gearing advantage and allows them to get off the line good it works perfect with the high revving 5.0 some of those might trap 119 but they also have like 490 hp stock they're underrated at 460. They dyno about 415 through an auto while these cars do like 460-480 stock to the wheel but they have alot more torque and it's harder to launch since all of the gt500s were manual stock. The earlier 5.0s from 11-17 with a manual trap like 110-112 stock at best not even close to what these cars do. The only one that comes close is the new one that don't have that much less power than these cars and has a 10 speed auto with a big time gearing advantage. The manual version don't come close. It also isn't just what these shelbys do stock its what they can do with simple mods that makes them awesome. They can gain over 100 rwhp easy with simple stuff. A simple blower swap and 800 rwhp is possible. It's alot easier and cheaper to swap the blower on an already supercharged shelby than it is to install a full supercharger kit on a 5.0 and if manuals are your thing the tr6060 is light years ahead of the mt82.
I don't know what is up with the times but this car is definitely not slower than an 11 through 14 5.0 the 5.0 will run with it closer than most people think but there is no way in hell the 5.0 is just as fast or faster than this car all things being equal it's just not. they must have ran this car with a crap driver in terrible density altitude for it to achieve the time that it achieved Muscle Mustangs and Fast Forward ran like 12.3 at 112 or 113 in a 2003 Cobra stock back in the day this car should definitely be a little bit quicker than it although it is slightly heavier numbers are just numbers guys these things are heavy pigs but I rode in a bolt-on pulley 2010 and let me tell you that thing is quick as hell

And you will never turn heads in a mustang like you can in a Vette! Maybe by the guys! lol
Those vette times are in autos. Put a competant driver in and coupe vs coupe as well as manual vs manual and the mustang wins. However, a zo6 would mop the floor with it. Lastly gt500's are rare...vettes are not! Gt500 Is turning more heads, trust me.

Also no limited slip differential which might further slow you down on straight, and certainly will on corners. Put the same highly skilled racing driver in Mustang and Corvette, tell him to do laps on circuit tracks, and even standard Vette of the same year would wipe the floor with Mustang.

It's more about the stock tires. I can't even get my S550 Mustang GT into the 12s because of the stock tires.
