Thanks so much. We followed this step by step, although for just the basic version and downsized for a smaller dog. The video, drawings and step by step instructions were invaluable. We spent about $150 on materials at Lowes.
What dimensions did you scale down to? I was adding materials to my cart and it was quickly creeping to $300 + so Im not sure what I am doing differently but Id love to get advice on how to keep the price down. Did you use pressure treated lumber for the base?
@@lesleyswan7671 we spent just under $200. Ours was about 3 feet wide by 2 feet deep by 2 feet tall. It was almost 6 months ago and I’ve forgotten how our finished product differed from the one in the video, but I did redraw the plans and make it much more simple and basic to meet our needs. Also, we made a removable roof (a lid) instead of a hinged roof.
Roofer here You did a good job. There's a metal piece that goes on the very top to prevent water from getting in the top side of the shingles kind of like the metal edge you put before but it's a lot wider and goes on top of roofs without a ridge. Also caulking the nails would help make it last longer without leaking. I've never done framing before and I was going to use 2x4 for a smaller outhouse for an outdoor cat lol. I actually have some spare 2x2 but I might need more. Hopefully mine comes out half as good as yours lol you're too good
Omgosh, Lowes, you won my heart over even more. You are literally a business after my own heart because of this dog house. 💡♥️ Not to mentioned you just installed a new fence in my home this week and I’m blown away by it. Nice work installers!!! Thank you once again for your impeccable and outstanding work. This is why you always get my business time after time. Keep it up! 👍You’re setting the bar for other businesses! 😁👏🏼
Imma just say this framing is most definitely important it’s the internal structure of a building not matter the size but love the dog house great work
That's amazing. Been trying to build a dog house for my boy for a while and now I have a blueprint. Thank you. I hope Luna and the rest of family is happy
Better to build it big enough for the owner to sleep along his dog in case he being kicked out of the house because of some domestic dispute! Thank You So Much for the homey tutorial! 🕯🌷🕊♥️🌍
That true sleepying with the dogif you stay out late at night jiji that funny big? Nought if you get home in two days jiji bless to you wir qndr builder this mansion n is beautiful bless then hands
Great video describing everything! Gonna get this completed this weekend but maybe I missed how many degrees are the cuts for the left and right frame and where.
Question from an amateur here. At 0:57 when you fastened the base parts together, do you drill a guiding hole first through both peices of wood first or do you just drill the nail just like that?
I don’t have a dog- and am incapable of even holding a hammer the proper way- BUT I do have some outdoor cats and kittens that I want to make an outdoor home for and this looks amazing! Of course me actually building this is wishful thinking- but the design is just wow!
Very nice… beautiful work… the ONLY thing i would have done differently would be to fram out a lip around the inside of the threshold where the swinging door is, just like how a house door is to prevent it from swinging inward. Otherwise, this is very nice
I saw you had your wood material on a piece of foam insulation. Was the reason to have a base to work on between two saw horses. Also, have you ever put this foam insulation in between walls to insulate a dog house?
I am building this now and the printed instructions failed to mentioned that you removed the shingles to add the turf to the roof (which I just installed yesterday). Can I just apply the turf on top of the shingles? Also, I improvised and used a Flex-Seal type product vs purchasing the 36"x150' felt paper.
Looks great! I will be working on this soon. I have a question though. We have a double fridge and freezer sitting neatly into a nook. I want to fit a set of cabinets over them. The span, from wall to wall is 1.4 meters. What can I use/do that would support the cabinets? Any advice is welcom.
Technically yes. It would be the same as your dog laying out on a brand new deck you built. I would advise putting a nice comfy bed in there or even painting/sealing the wood if the pressure treating is something you aren’t comfortable with. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question! 👍
Late reply but it’s been a year and it still looks great. I removed the asphalt shingle so I could show you the process for doing it without using an asphalt shingle first. You could honestly do it overtop of it though.
I love this dog house with the astro turf. But I am not handy and don't have all of those tools. I wish it was sold with pieces I could put together. Also, I have bamboo at my disposal, but I can't imagine how to translate the design to using bamboo...
So I’ve been building this dog house and it’s occurred to me during the process at just how much has been glossed over in the video. Especially when it comes to the siding. Would have been cool to see what techniques were using to not only nail the angle of the sides, but also side the roof lip like what is had here. Jigsaw?
The plywood is the most expensive it went up i remember i can get 20 bucks of plywood and 2x4 was 2 bucks and screws and nails are nothing and build a dog house but now the material are just as much as a doghouse already built
I see in the instructions the base is 45 in on one side and 48 inches on the other. What is the length of the middle board? Or should it be a 48x 46 in base?

I don't have a dog, I don't do handywork, Lowe's stores don't even exist here, but I like watching these videos.
Ok
Where is here?
I felt that
Same
Yup
Why don’t we just make it bigger so I can chill with my dog in there 🤣🤣🤣
Sir, I believe you're describing a guest house. Which isn't a bad idea either.
@badshodi it's for relatives, girlfriend(s) ...
LOL.. I thought I was the only one thinking that. Hahaha
sir... thats just a garage
For a guy who's always in the dog house, I concur with this comment....

A year later, how'd it turn out?
Love it and it's beautiful. Was about to make it for my dog BUT I stopped at $470 in building material as I was adding them to my Cart.
Wow that’s expensive! I want to make one but it sounds too much. Thx for posting this.
@@gabbyrogersnest751 they probably added too much stuff to their cart
$150 for the basic house with plywood

Thanks man from me and my daughters for doing this all. Cheers from Australia!
Keep ‘em coming Lowe’s! Content like this is just right!
Beautiful dog. She loves the house

I want to say 6 degrees but I can’t remember. I went by length on the frame I think
6.3
Excellent for countries without rain.
Luna is one lucky girl! Great build!
Awwww i love luna. Her house is lovely
This is absolutely incredible, omg
I’m following step by step and it’s turning out amazing
Adding a rug or bed would be icing on the cake.
And some drainage inside, I’d be worried about rain.
Killing it! You could sell these!

Secure it into the studs obviously but maybe consider some screws through the top inside and into the ceiling joist
Is the pressure treated wood safe for dogs and other animals?

Use cedar or a hard wood if you dont want treated
@@Tony-wm1oc great point! Especially painted or clear coated cedar will really last and look beautiful.

So, how did the grass top work out? Water did not run under or through it?
How will this hold up over time in the weather? None of this is treated right?
How much it's cost all complete
I need to build something for my Tortoises so this is fantastic for the basics, I can easily modify the design and make something just for them.

what angles need to be cut and what degree?
