    I've learned the hard way. For the cost of a few extra floor joists, you should stiffen any shed floor or deck by laying the joists out 12" on center instead of 16".

    Joists are various widths.. if you want a flat deck, line the top of each one up with the top of the cross-member, then attach the hanger. You can screw another board on top of the joist and hang it on the cross-member while you attach the joist hanger.

    For budgetary purpose, may I ask what this project will cost the homeowners?

    Good night!! Are you parking a tank on there?! Why so many deck block?? Why do attached decks get away with getting so few contact points to ground vs a floating deck?

    This is really great! Jay Reeths is excellent in this instructional!!! This is exactly what I need to redo my old deck in the back yard. The addition of the wire mesh was a nice touch that I never thought of. Good tip on use of a shed anchor.

    Always leave one side long for a perfect layout so that your not trimming the last top panel.

    11:40 You never know if your joists are all the same height. Usually there are minor differences. So it's better not to pre-attach the joist hangers. Use the joist you want to place at that specific point, line it's top up to the beam and attach the hanger. Go on using the next piece of wood.

      Thank you so much for pointing this out. I saw the spacing and wondered if they allowed that type of spacing because it’s wood and would need some space to move and warp a little over time.

    I was in the Carpenters union for 18 years been a carpenter nearly 30 years and i never ever set a batter board or used a stringline on a deck unless i was checking grade. And dont tie your string to the batter board put a tack on top and attach to that instead

    it would be a lot more helpful if at the end of these videos. Lowes could give an estimate of the cost so people would have at least an idea of the cost. other then that great videos...

      They'd have to give you an estimate using that composite decking...and then when you get up off the floor, a second estimate with wood :D

    • @ogbose49
      @ogbose49 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I added it up, without the the composite decking and using my 2x6x16s instead with the purchase of some power tools it would run you under $2,000.
