Could you please give me some advice. it also struggles to accelerate. there's nothing wrong with my rocker arm, springs, or push roads cause I intially thought it was a stuck lifter but then I used a screw driver to pin point the noise and it's coming from my intake.
any other information you can provide would be helpful. Based on what you said, I have nothing. CEL? What engine? Auto or Standard? And anything else that's helpful
Could this be the cause of the car bucking back and forth when letting off the gas or applying gas? Only when in gear but the clutch is fine. Had a CEL that went away on its own. Code was P0456 (very small leak in the EVAP system). Only happens noticeably in lower gears 1st,2nd,3rd.
Can you actually remove the part without removing the manifold? I removed the bolts that hold the wire harness but doesnt leave me much wiggle room as said in video. I think im gonna pull the intake and clean it out well and replace the intake boot and gaskets but wanna do this power valve as well just cant find it lol
Well if its not the pcv valve, I would imagine it is coming from the vacuum source connected to the PCV valve. Probably inside the intake manifold. A stethoscope can help pinpoint the noise sometimes. But likely inside the manifold. That actuator is probably a dealer only part. Its easy to take out though. I'd do that first just to see if it looks obviously defective
question I have a 2014 Maxima, fresh oil change, has new VVT solenoids both left and right because I got a P0021/0011 code and service engine soon light. on cold start I get a hard knocking/rattling, if I push the RPMs to 2000 on idle knocking starts, while driving first and second gear reving up it knocks. need some advice...
It sounds like there might be a timing issue. These engines have a variable cam gear. The intake cam gear is usually the cause. It tends to happen at low mileage, if it's going to happen. It might still be under some type of warranty. Basically the cam gear fails, and causes noise on startup and under load. It will also trigger the codes you mentioned. It could also be broken timing chain guides, but either way, the timing cover would need to come off to inspect. If you're doing this yourself, definitely try to verify the location of the noise, and whether it is mechanical noise, or pre-ignition noise. Pulling the timing cover on these is no fun. Do some more research, but I'm betting that your issue is timing chain related. Of course any more info you have would be helpful.
@@AppalachianDIYI also have a 2014 Maxima but mine only rattles at start up for a couple seconds. What can it be? I removed the manifold valve but mine is plastic and it doesn’t have a manual lever like yours
I just bought a 2013 Maxima with 31k miles on it. When I gas it to pass somebody or accelerate quickly, I hear a faint rattle/wheeze noise. I wish we could have heard the car noise in your video to compare. Nevertheless, I'm hoping it is just a loose part, but my mechanic literally just checked the car out before I bought it and saw nothing wrong.
I think I described it to someones else as a card in bicycle spokes. It's only under accel from the area I pointed out. These engines have another common rattle from the timing area, but that rattle yo usually hear on cold start up
I have an infiniti i35 2003 with p1800 code, the actuator sounds like have an leak of air . is that normal? I have a misfire random and my car wont run more of 140 km/hr , any idea of the problem thanks, the first code was p0304 I replace the coil #4 and p0300 was the new code
the p1800 usually indicates a short in the VIAS circuit. The VIAS is the small thing on top of the intake manifold. Its small and has 2 vacuum hoses to it and one electrical connector. The solenoid itself could be shorted or their could be a wire in the circuit that is shorted or open. Typically the VIAS is bad with p1800, but the wires should be checked for shorts or breaks. For the p0300, check that you connected the coils correctly. Did you disconnect more than just the #4 coil? You can easily mix up #4 and #6 connector.
Have a 2003 Maxima with this problem. What's the best solution? Just replace the actuator? How do you prevent this problem from reoccurring in the future? Lots of questions!!
I have a 2009 Nissan Maxima SV 3.5L. I'm hearing a rattling sound when I start my car. th-cam.com/video/y26GeMgxRP0/w-d-xo.html Car still runs fine. After driving the noise seems to die down. I'm not sure if the sound is the timing chain or possibly this intake manifold. I recorded the sound, could you take a listen and give me your recommendation. I'd really appreciate any feedback.
I replaced the timing chain and I still get a cold start rattle what could this be? Because it makes the exact same noise but it goes away once I start it
Hey there James. Great video. My power valve actuator has lost its seal and is making a big hissing sound. I cannot find this part anywhere online. Where did you buy your replacement? Thanks
+OSIS_909 It could be. Hard to say without hearing it myself. To verify if it is the valve or not, have someone start the car while you are holding the the rod on the outside of the valve. Try moving it back and forth while starting the car to see if the noise changes or goes away. If there is no change, then it is likely something else. Rattles like that could also be timing chain noise, among various other things. A stethoscope can help pinpoint engine noises.
My 2002 Nissan is doing this at 80 is that a speed that it would vacuum and is loose like your saying ???my mechanic is baffled ... this definitely seem like the problem .... Please help just bought the car and I feel like its a lemon
Hi... Could this problem be the same as this one: th-cam.com/video/_O8qSw4dxII/w-d-xo.html So when I pull the connector or disable the Variable tumble control solenoid valve as seen on the video, the noise disappears. On our mazda, is the VTCS shutter valve actuator the same as the Power Valve Actuator?
They may serve a similar function. I believe on the Mazads, those valves on the intake manifold actually change the volume of air in the intake manifold, effectively making it larger, based on the needs of the engine. Anyway, it could be the noise, but it is more likely the check valve inside the intake manifold. Some Mazdas have a check valve inside the intake manifold that can get stuck. So when air/vacuum passes by it, it can make a pretty loud noise. Also the intake manifolds on many Mazdas have a tendency to crack and leak - which could cause a vacuum leak type noise or whistle.
Probably not on the 2.5. I don't think they use a valve like this. It may be a timing chain rattle, if it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. (by the belt)
JamesonDIY it's coming from that side of the engine. So what does that mean ?should it be a serious concern? The sound bothers me that's why I want to find out what it is lol
Thanks for the video, although I would be a little more interested in knowing what the rattle is like. You did say it happens at certain RPMS. I do have an intermittent rattle on my Murano during acceleration for about 2 seconds. Is your rattle more consistent or also intermittent? It is very hard to pin point ads it only does it under load.
If I remember correctly it sounded like a card in bicycle spokes. If yours only happens under load, have someone power brake the car while you try to pinpoint. This will usually be enough load to duplicate the noise.

Hi dear.how r u. I have bought a second hand nissan maxima 2011. It pretty good car Once iam starting up the car There is some sound comes from the engine .it appear only for 2 seconds like knocking. Is it a major problem
not necessarily broken, but probably worn out. You should have a shop look at it, and verify that's what's happening. It will cost more down the road if you don't get it addressed before it gets worse.
I have a 6 speed manual, when I'm driving through the bumps and keep my gear at 2 or 3rd speed as it's slowing down I can hear this annoying rattling noise! I think this is what my problem is. I hate it lol it's embarrassing cause people can hear it. Thanks for the video bro
Yeah it could be. Ive had a lot of questions regarding this rattle. I need to do another video. Most Nissan Engine rattles are either this power valve, or timing chain. Let's hope yours is the cheaper of the 2
JamesonDIY I sure hope it's the cheaper one as well lol I took mine out, and it doesn't look as bad as the one on the video lol but I did move it and it has play so I know it needs replacing. But what guarantees would I have that it won't do it again? Like buying one from Nissan or AutoZone? I hope it's not the timing chain. I only 153,000 miles
You will not likely find the valve anywhere other than Nissan, but obviously no guarantees. The timing sprockets on those Nissan engines are prone to failure. I have seem them fail at 40,000 miles. But again, I hope that is not the case with yours.
Great video. I was looking for a step by step vid on intake manifold removal and ran into this. My (daughters POS) 04 Altima is throwing the infamous p0011 code. I've narrowed it down to the bank 1 VVT solenoid. But in order to get the old one out; it looks like the intake manifold and this valve you did the vid on needs to get pulled... (Couldn't have been p0012- bank 2... Nice and easy to get to). 👎 Oh well. Murphy's law. If you ever happen to be pulling a 3.5 nissan intake manifold and feel so inclined to record it; I won't complain. You seem to know your business.
I have an '05 maxima with 186000 miles. I change the oil every 4500 miles, but I've had a rattling issue for awhile now. When the car starts up it rattles or ticks and when the noise stops when the car reaches about 3000 RPM. But after maybe 10-15 minutes of driving the rattle/tick stops entirely and the car sounds fine...any ideas??
I took out the valve and it makes the ticking when i move it up and down but when i read the comments it seems like the timing chain tensioner. When the car starts cold it rattles and as it warms up the rattle fades away
It sounds timing chain related. These have issues with the intake cam sprocket going bad, and causing noises like this when the engine is cold, and at low RPM. Most likely you are looking at timing chain plus intake cam gear, and tensioner. Might as well do the water pump at the same time
3.5's make so much overhead noise I'm just shock that what it was.. They need to run on premium and constantly need timing chains and relearns if you dont..

Hi... Could this problem be the same as this one: th-cam.com/video/_O8qSw4dxII/w-d-xo.html
So when I pull the connector or disable the Variable tumble control solenoid valve as seen on the video, the noise disappears.
So my 2012 Altima 2.5 has a rattle sound and it sounds just like the sound your making. Could this part be causing that sound ?
Probably not on the 2.5. I don't think they use a valve like this. It may be a timing chain rattle, if it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. (by the belt)
JamesonDIY it's coming from that side of the engine. So what does that mean ?should it be a serious concern? The sound bothers me that's why I want to find out what it is lol

Very common timing chain issues on that engine. It usually starts as a noise on start up when the engine is cold
JamesonDIY
Yes when the engine cold.
So friend do i have to fix some think .
Does this sound means some think broken inside the engine
not necessarily broken, but probably worn out. You should have a shop look at it, and verify that's what's happening. It will cost more down the road if you don't get it addressed before it gets worse.
You're a genius, thanks
Name part?
Where did you buy the parts from?
Go to nwpengineering.com buy a block off plate Without that valve it adds bit more and air flow
Wish you would’ve shown us the noise it was making prior
That’s what I was looking for!! 😩 no idea what it sounded like!!
Does anyone know the part number? Thanks!
Does anyone know the part number? Cant find it
Valve A Power
Oem part# 14510-8J19E that is how it comes out from the nissan diagram .
I replaced my timing chain and I still get a small rattle on a cold start
Would could be the problem any help?
I did this no change smh dont think they checked for loose screws GOT the peice from a import place because Nissan does not sale or make
I have a 6 speed manual, when I'm driving through the bumps and keep my gear at 2 or 3rd speed as it's slowing down I can hear this annoying rattling noise!
Oh well. Murphy's law. If you ever happen to be pulling a 3.5 nissan intake manifold and feel so inclined to record it; I won't complain. You seem to know your business.
Ok cool. Thanks for the info
hi , i know It was a while ago, but do you remember If you got an oil leak from that valve, that dripped onto the vvt solenoid?
Mine does it when i start and on idle .
Thank you, this video helped a lot
There is no way this part fixed it i have bought two new ones from nissan and they come loose just like this.
Go to nwpengineering.com buy a block off plate with out that valve youll thank me later
SO, where's the noise?
Does the power valve actuator have a gasket ?
Yeah I think it was a reusable metal gasket
Did it also give a p0300 code for a random misfire due to this valve altering the gas air flow mixture?
I dont remember. That was a long time ago
NWP Block Plate
Not worth it bro you will lose low end power
@@Tootoojackson Not even noticeable. Car runs like a raped ape.
Possibly a timing chain issue. It is very common on these
I took out the valve and it makes the ticking when i move it up and down but when i read the comments it seems like the timing chain tensioner.
Might as well do the water pump at the same time
@@TBrens3 did you ever fix the issue?
My Nissan Altima is making that noise, but only when the AC is on..
Thank u mine did in 1st gear .thank u so much.
Ok Thank you for your video . Gave me more knowledge 💯🎆🎆🎆🎊🎊🎉💪😶📝✏
Cool. Thanks
great video.. thanks
It would be nice if I could get the fucking cover off the actuator !!!
These tiny screws wrecked my engine.
That's just awful. Nissan should be held accountable...
that looks like a DISA valve haha
No way that was causing the noise.. loose timing chain.
If you look through the comments, you'll see I've pointed many people towards timing chain. It was not the case on this car
3.5's make so much overhead noise I'm just shock that what it was.. They need to run on premium and constantly need timing chains and relearns if you dont..
You know you can just throw that thing in the trash and plug the vac to get your customer 5-10 more hp..
@@karlwashere123 if it were up to me, I'd just throw all those cars in the trash can
i love my VQ35.. gotts 345 at the wheel..
bloody nissans.....lol
+Will D Robinson agreed
+AppalachianDIY i did take your advice on amazon for tools so thanks saved me a fortune lol 😃
+Will D Robinson Cool, glad to hear it. Good tools are expensive, saving money on them is priceless
+AppalachianDIY i dont mind spending the money but if its just rebranded theres no point
+Will D Robinson you said it
What's that part called. I have 2005 nissan maxima that needs that part
