In this video I introduce a new product I've developed and brought to market. I call it the Double Taper sanding disc. It's a sanding disc to be used in your table saw and will make sanding the edges of work pieces much easier and more accurate. It will help with glue-ups, door and face frame construction, and a multitude of other tasks in the shop. Feel free to ask questions.
This is a product I truly believe can improve your woodworking, its easy, fast, and gives very high quality results. If you enjoy my videos, purchasing a disc for your shop is a great way to help support my channel.

Finally, I got the disc out of the box and on to the table saw. Let start by saying it does everything that Mike says it will do. I started with end sanding a couple of raised panel doors and it work perfect . I don't have a sled for my table saw so I set the fence up and went slowly. The ends are now perfectly smooth so smooth you almost can't see the mill work where the style and rail come together. A caution for all potential users. I would suggest you have a blank throat plate that you can customize for use with this disc. It is rather thick too thick obviously for my zero clearance plate, too thick for a standard plate and a dado plate's slot is not long enough. Luckily I had a blank throat plate. It did take some playing around with multiple blades and even a dado set to get the slot just right. All-in-all great addition to my shop.

It's funny, John Heisz just did a recent video where he added a piece of sandpaper to a saw blade. If I remember correctly he was trying to cut and sand at the same time. It was an interesting idea, then I remembered seeing you using a table saw sanding disc setup on a few videos. Cool stuff sir.

Timing is funny. I saw that video as well, I don't know if it will hurt or help the performance of this video. That idea wasn't original to John. Look up Final Cut Saw blades. I used to have one about 10 years ago. I used it on my chop saw for installing crown.

Mike - You are, dare I say, brilliant! I have been using this now for about 9 months. It is one of my most favorite things in the shop. I hate sanding edges. I used to sand by hand (no belt sander) to keep as flat as possible, time consuming and never flat. One or two passes with the disc and I'm done. Now I have beautifully flat, crisp edges. Rock on!!!

Another way to smooth MDF...or end grain of a board if you're going to use paint for your finish is to simply use spackle and a putty knife. It's quick and easy and if you use the pink spackle you can easily tell when it's dry enough to paint over because it turns white when its dry. It also fills gouges and dents in wood that are too large to sweat out with water and a steam iron.

I just ordered a new disc, "Gee Nate what happened to the one you have been using?" asked no one, "Its not a Farrington disc" I never replied.
If you have never used this technic you are missing out on a great way to handle edges, Extremely fast, whenever Mike started putting out videos and showed the usefulness of the Mighty disc, I immediately ordered one, A couple years and a few thousand feet of wood later Zakk (my son) and I find ourselves holding hands and singing kumbaya ,because our lives are that much better, So I ordered a new one because its the least I could do to support Mike, the boardroom and all those little apprentices.

Just found this and it sounds like a great new use for the table saw. It looks like it could also be used for traditional disc sanding work, but would be easier if one side were flat instead of tapered.
People with big shops/budgets may buy a second small table saw just for this similar to having a small secondary band saw for dedicated small blades.

You have done a very good job of describing the disk and it's use. Your diagram in excellent. The function is quite simple when you think about it for a minute or so. I had a similar disk in the late 1970's. I believe it came from Sears (Craftsman). It was only tapered on one side. It worked very well but as I recall I quit using it because I hated changing saw blades.

Finally got to try this "sanding disc" out on my Metabo portable table saw and I love it. Split an 8' and 6' red oak than cleaned up the sides with this disc. Had some issues like left sided disc sanding, since the tilt is left only for my saw, and the fit was so tight I spun the disk onto the arbor as if it was threaded (but it was a nice tight fit). I also had to leave the Throatplate off, and use a shim for the riving knife in order for it to allow the material to pass, otherwise the riving knife was in the way. With the precision sanding came lot of dust, likely due to the missing throatplate. But the results are worth it. I'll plan to make custom changes to my table saw, like a custom throatplate and maybe seal up the dust/blade area tighter for improved dust extraction. Is there any questions or ideas maybe Mike or anyone in the community have to add?💡

That is part of my reasoning for the 2 degrees. That particular disc was what I recommended for a while. After a couple months I had a bunch of people email me stating the disc wasn't or wouldn't stay flat. I don't think its thick enough or machined well enough. Fortunately its cheap enough to where its not a huge loss.

True, to be certain you have a 90 degree you need to use a square. But, my saw is pretty close to square and for most work -- at least most of my work -- if it is off by a small fraction of a degree it doesn't matter.
