Why Does Acheron Follow Nihility? | Honkai Star Rail Lore

- In honkai star rail, Acheron is one of the more interesting characters given her association with the path of nihility. We know of Acherons past through bits and pieces revealed in the trailers and main story and while many know now that she treads the path of nihility, specifically a self-annihilator, not many know the reason why. So in this video we are going to discuss how Acheron started on this road and why does Acheron follow nihility
Some part of this video comes from the actual lore while others may be speculation on my part as we currently do not know the full story. As such take it with a grain of salt as the point of this video is just a deeper dive into Honkai Star Rail lore.

Acheron stated already that nihility doesnt choose who to cast their shadow upon and it envelops everyone equally
when a person come to the conclusion "Existence is meaningless" and begin to walk with that ideal moving forward they r indirectly gets the shadow of IX cast upon them and they take a glimpse upon the void.
There r two outcomes from this action:
1)SELF ANNIHILATOR - You start to devolve and eventually become nothing.
2)DOCTORS OF CHAOS - You retaliate this ideal and start on a journey to save worlds and ultimately prove to IX that existence is more than nothing which is quite ironic bcoz they became doctors of chaos coz they stepped into that ideal in the first place but now they r going against it. What they try to prove is a paradox and cannot be done by mortals yet they enjoy trying nonetheless almost like their desire to revolt against meaningless destiny.
Self annihilators have no organization but doctors of chaos seem more socially aware and have connections even with self annihilators. According to doctors of chaos notes the self annihilators lose their memories slowly, their skin turns into rotten wood with holes and scars like stuff similar to necrosis disease in our world i guess? and the endocrine system is disrupted so they cant feel pain or pleasure instead just feel numb, no senses either or poor senses.
In Acheron's case she lost her sense of direction due to memory loss or memory degradation thats y she remembers things with emotions instead of pure senses. Good examples of this r her eating peach in her idle animation which u can look at her face she doesnt feel its taste so she keeps rolling her eyes around as if trying to remember something bcoz she is indeed trying to remember her home world izumo aka japan and peach is very symbolic of japan. Thats why by the end of the animation she smiles(remembers her past with emotion rather than its taste) a bit instead of doing it earlier when she chewed on the fruit.
Another good example is when in 2.1 story black swan mentions how acheron is drinking the "wake the heck up" drink which is not a sweet drink and wonders why a girl like acheron is drinking that in a party almost as if saying its inelegant for a lady like her. But its bcoz acheron cannot smell or feel its taste and thats why she is drinking it without a care in the world. Honestly i feel bad for her at this point.
Some self annihilators join doctors of chaos and try to redeem their life by opposing nihility itself at its root. They want to save ppl from nihility with what little time they have left so they fight against it.
This brings me to my question when the mysterious person replied to her question bout her becoming colorless and become a shadow by saying "U still have a strand of color left in u... but not much" to that which she replied "hmm... before that i will reach the nihility's end". So i wonder if acheron is trying to kill IX the aeon itself? or she wants to reach IX's singularity or something to understand nihility and find an answer to this meaningless existence but after 2.1 quest end i feel acheron is more optimistic bout life and even encourages aventurine when he said "is life ultimately meaningless?" to not believe that idea. Acheron may be an emanator but its not like she is evil or wants to spread the ideal but she is fighting back against it using the powers she got from the aeon when she got consumed by ix along with her planets demise but she survived so she is almost like an Avenger(like sasuke from naruto who was the last survivor of the uchiha clan aside from his brother itachi) who will end IX or help towards that goal.
An emanator is someone who gets too close to an ideal the aeon governs over. But not all aeons shares their power directly with mortals and some aeons do it just for laughs example AHA the elation give powers of his to ppl just for trolling and its funny for him. IX has no reason or meaning behind anything it does or even its existence so it didnt voluntarily make acheron an emanator and she didnt voluntarily become one herself either.
Good writing, I myself have the same thought regarding how Nihility is being potrayed in HSR and yours are mostly the same conclusion that I came in to.
IX is basically a blob of energy (All Aeons utilize energy that came from Imaginary Tree) that unconsciously envelopes universe with THEIR power, therefore giving a birth to an Emanator is completely possible but IX THEMSELVES doesn't even care nor have meaning in giving mortals THEIR power. This is what Acheron meant when IX doesn't move, care, nor have a meaning in unconsciously doing something. THEY just did it unknowingly.
As for her purpose, I think it's more of a prose rather than a specific objective. She mentioned Device IX when talking with the old man, and for my theory, I think she just wanted to catch up to Frebass (you can check Deep Water relics about those two lore), and basically finally finds what is her meaning in her own end. And Device IX is basically something that would represent IX THEMSELVES, which are black holes.
@@Yubu thanks for reading ik i typed a lot lol and yes i read the lore on dead waters relic. Based on that lore it could be very possible Frebass is long dead and turned into puddle of dead waters but maybe acheron will do something about it idk. Pretty sure acheron is not planning on just going there to turn into dead waters too since she can just go poof by default just by being a self annihilator. lets see what she reveals in future.
@@Kishisuke I actually love reading discussions especially regarding Nihility in a lot HSR videos, and most of them didn't really adress or discussing about IX themselves or the path thoroughly (at least by my observation). Therefore, I purposefully choose the longer one cuz they dedicated their times and thought in the process of writing.
There's still so many things in the Acheron's lore and hence why I love her personally. It's the first time that an actual explanation from Hoyo regarding the weirdest path in HSR, and I love it. I have pretty high hopes for the lores.
@@Yubu yea a lot of misunderstanding is there in the community regarding the lore and power scaling which is normal in a game like this coz not everything is stated directly in our face instead we have to research and find lores from small pieces and connect the dots like which i love doing even on genshin back then and hi3 too lol Mostly ppl who r casual or normal player take things on face value and wont look too much into it so they have a strong opinion on something regarding what they saw but its not so simple as that for example saying Galaxy rangers r more powerful than emanators just coz they killed one weak lord ravager with cunning and tricks. I usually write if i see something needs to be said and i have less expectation from ppl would read all the long stuff coz ppl tend to just assume it as "yapping" these days haha but if one or two ppl read it and they spread the info it will still be good and u can feel at ease knowing u have done ur part in delivering the right information. hi i wanted to share my 2 cents on this as a hi3 player, esp after 4:30.
the humans actually did win against the kami (just like in hi3 they won against the herrschers) but the price was the fact that almost all of the population turned to oni ( theyre basically like the zombies in hi3, they were corrupted by honkai/kami) and after that came a moment of halt, as said in the acheron story trailer "Then the underground was cleared out, the wars called to a halt, and the twelve blades broke and locked". after the kami were defeated and basically most of the population being gone, they realized that they're doomed to die cause of black sun, they have to either retaliate or just give up. As written in the desc of that vid, two blades , origin and end, were forged to see which one will take humanity to their destiny. acheron (origin, which is the extension of end in which that there is always a beginning after an end) wanted humanity to live on, to fight against the black sun, while kevin (the taka smth or End) wanted them to give up nd die to the black sun.
(in hi3, raiden mei (hi3's acheron) and kevin were on opposing sides but not "enemies", kevin's plan was to re-program earth create a global Spiritual adam, while Earth was getting re-programmed all of the common folks who didnt have any honkai(kami) adaptability were teleported into a dream where they were living the most happiest days of their lives nd the capable ones were sent to the moon till the re-programming is done ( that spirtual adam is just like penacony's dreamscape persay, they didnt have to worry about anything, nd some of them would even say the same things penacony npcs would say about "why live in reality when i get no pain here even if its just a dream?") so maybe hsr's kevin's plan was actually like that? nd maybe acheron went against him because she thinks ppl should live life w all of its conveniences and unconveniences (just like raiden mei nd others)
(in hi3, kevin was using finality's power (which is end) which he took by force nd couldnt be defeated until Kiana became the herrscher of finality by connecting to a divine cocoon thats kinda like takagahamara, which made him lose finality power in the process. Finality in hi3 is like at the top of foodchain in power-scale, from it originated all the 12 herrscher powers, nd when kiana had Finality's power she not only able to use all 12 herrscher powers, but also remove all the herrscher authorities from other herrschers.
and it got me thinking, after acheron killed "kevin" she probably also got End's power (for even both swords got forged into one) which means she had the might of all edict edges and possibly was a herrscher/kami hersef just like raiden?
Acheron as seen in the trailer has attacked the black sun after getting the "naught" blade nd got her emanator form in the middle of it, its also written in the desc that she became null. which begs the question, did she became an emanator because she was one if the few who had attacked a shadow of ix, whilst also having their whole planet's ambition and hope to live on, even if their whole lives are in vain? in the end, izumi vanished and no one lived to tell the tale except acheron, as stated in the desc. but even she, an emanator of nihility, is still a self-annihilator and exhibits traits of being so, yet she hasnt lost her will to live and doesnt think her life is meaningless. she also stated that she has own ways of dealing with the effects of self-annihilation. could it be that her herrscher power are imbdued in that sword? nd that the only way to resist the power of nihilty is using herrscher powers? but if so, then is a herrscher lvl power close to emanators or aeons in hsr's universe?
She told Aventurine that "some walked farther into THEIR shadows, therefore tainting themselves more with Nihility, that's all."
This is how she got her power, basically just because. No other explanation is needed as it's pointless to dwell in how Nihility works.
My theory is literally, the war ends but she survived by herself, therefore in that moment she basically tainted herself in Nihility (of course, inadvertently, as a Self-Annihilator, you unconsciously became one them). At that moment, her power basically formed therefore as her last pointless struggle against the Black Sun, she tried to fight THEM which is Naught as it's pointless. The other HI3 stuff is basically references that sort of fan-service as Izumo stands alone (I'd argue that the planet itself is basically Bubble Universe, as it's doomed to end), and the only important character mentioned is Shira-Oni.
your video remind me of an interesting point. IX is describe as a shadow that envelop all things, Acheron still have a little bit of color left representing by her red color in her ult. The interesting part is that her blade is red implying that despite naming her blade naught it is her connection to this world and grounded her (the blade even help her recover her memories that should have been lost).
P.S: i think the Kami-and by extension people like Archeron pre-Nihility -follow Terminus (my only evidence is a line in Archeron Myriad Celestia descriptions)
That explains why her memory improves when she holds her blade.

Most of us say that Acheron is HI3's Raiden Mei without her beloved Kiana and (HI3's) Bronya. In the final battle with Kevin Kaslana, all three Herrshcers were key to the victory.
But I think there's the difference in ultimate ends. Had Kiana, Mei, and Bronya lost, then the world of HI3 would just return to the 50,000 year cycle of its Samsara. Why? Because, as we all learned eventually, Honkai wasn't trying to destroy humanity: it was trying to... embrace it, be one with it. It just didn't know how and Kevin, who at the time had become the bearer of the role of Finality, also didn't know how.
It took the efforts of all three - Kiana most especially, Mei, and Bronya - and all their friends and allies, and so many sacrifices - I'm looking at you, Himeko - to allow Kiana to be that means for the Honkai to embrace humanity without destroying it.
In the end, the story of Honkai Impact 3, despite all its tragedy and loss, didn't really have a villain. It had ANTAGONISTS, but no real big big big evil. Just a lot of sentients who... yeah. Okay, maybe there may be some, but the "final bosses" in Otto and Kebin were just... after something.
Achron's and HSR's problem is that, well... look at that big sentient black hole.
And Nanook.
Heck, even something supposedly so benign as Abundance is a major danger. Preservation? Its biggest organization is Space Neoliberal Capitalism. Only Akivili, the Aeon of the Trailblaze, seems like a genuinely nice god but he's dead now.
Elio's probably pinning his hopes in making the Trailblazer HSR's Kiana Kaslana. The bat is a giveaway of sorts, since that's kind of like the Kaslana signature weapon (the final battle with Kevin was him trading baseball bat hits with Kiana, the way Kaslanas deal with things, haha).
Then again, we nearly became an Otto when the Death Meme did what it did :D

Scientifically speaking it kinda bothers me, how did Izumo thrived, nurtured life and survived long enough by orbiting a black hole. Without a sun, usually planets would eventually freeze out and die. Did IX pose as their sun or was their a star nearby?
chinese follows the theory of "every sun becoming balckhole" theory very strongly , hence blackhole containing similar solar radiation is believed
Scientifically speaking, ya'll don't know what you're talking about. People living on a planet orbiting a blackhole wouldn't see it as one at first(barring the countless variables such as technological advancements, cognition/intelligence, and the type of civilization living on said planet,etc). Black holes form an accretion disk from the matter orbiting it- see the light swirling and forming the outline on certain concept images of a blackhole. The accretion disk is hot and much brighter than you would think. As long as there is matter nearby, a blackhole will continue to have a visible accretion disk. If our sun was a blackhole, by manner of simple conjecture, we would see it as a bright star, similar to our sun. Of course, there would be glaring qualities that one can't overlook. Particular dimming at the center of said star could indicate the possibility that it may not indeed be a star. With the right conditions, planets orbiting a blackhole could potentially still sustain life.
Also, depending on the size, position, and distance of a blackhole from a planet, the planet could very well have months to millions(or even billions) of years before it gets completely devoured. A stable gravitational field and orbit could very well make a blackhole a stable and well formed star system with a dozen planets orbiting it. This is all just hypothesis on my part but it is backed by scientific evidence.

This is why I solely believe that majority of HSR players who ended up being isekai-ed to HSR world would realistically follow on Nihility Path (myself included). Aventurine didn’t lie when he said everyone contained the Nihility deep inside themselves, all it really take is simply one unfortunate event or just one word “WHY” which will make you question your purpose and existence in the entire journey forever.
Truly gonna give an applause to Hoyoverse for representing Nihilism very well! (And also didn’t make Acheron become emanator of finality like most players theorized, it is much meaningful for me)

I thought Edict Edges were a parallel of HI3rds Current Era Hersschers but with a little difference in chronological order of appearance.

1st - Reason = Truth
2nd - Void = Sky
3rd - Thunder = Howl
4th - Wind = Mist
5th - Ice = Frost
6th - Death (or Rebirth if you want to be fancy, but they're the same thing) = Fate
7th - Fire = Flame
8th - Sentience = Thought
9th - Earth (or Stars in the current era) = Root
10th - Dominance = Form
11th - Binding = Bind
12th - Corruption = Maw

@@SolHati0828 oh, the order for the PE Herrschers can be known through the number of the divine keys. They're not ordered by the order in which they were made, but according to which Herrscher they were made from. Void Archives was the last one, but it's called the 1st Key due to being made from the first Herrscher

Also she cut down the shadow of IX ( the black hole ) is some sort of sign that she fights back against her fate but not the one of her planet.
Like if her existence disappears at the same time that izumo disappears.
Maybe the with device IX and so nihility end she can find a way to find the truth of the universe and the true end.
Also a point i would like to make is that not all emanators r equal in strength and the title emanator doesnt mean they r the strongest of all. Emanators r upholding various forms of the ideal their aeon governs. Some ppl misunderstands and claims a galaxy ranger killed lord ravager zulo so they r more powerful than emanators which is completely stupid and wrong argument bcoz first of all zulo is a weak lord ravager and even then it was a team effort with assassination tactics rather than a face to face, one on one duel. Compare zulo to a lord ravager who is known for his obsession over the beauty of things before they r destroyed aka ZEPHYRO the scorching flare he completely destroyed an ENTIRE GALAXY NAMED "TAI'NUA" just bcoz he finds it beautiful... this guy is just an emanator not even the aeon NANOOK this is batsh- crazy if u imagine the power scaling to destroy an entire galaxy on a whim for fun. To put it into perspective our galaxy milky way has an average of 100 billion stars which forms the large disk shape with diameter of 100000 light years. And each star has a planetary system like our sun and our sun is not even a giant star compared to massive stars that will make our sun look like pluto or an asteroid. So this guy zephyro is basically Frieza from dbz but million times worse in scale of destruction.
Just let this sink in for a moment and then imagine how op Acheron actually is as a swordswoman who is at the pinnacle of that art mixed with all these powers of black hole and tsukyomi like abilities. Not even talking bout how old is her age must be so she is very wise and smart compared to normal ppl. She also manipulated her own memory to respond to black swan looking inside a memory of killing duke inferno its almost like a movie u watch suddenly the character in it start talking to u and comes towards the screen like a 4th wall break. We havent seen Acheron's full power yet and max she did is unsheathe her blade while holding back against aventurine bcoz she knows his intentions and he is not her enemy. So ppl r massive coping if they think boothill can solo her with a gun when she is basically neo from matrix stopping time and spacetime or dreams or even our own memories has no control over her(Stelle cant control her own words and thoughts coz Red text Acheron pops up and alters our reply almost like she is destiny that keeps us stay on the script like ellio)
Yeah idk why people are saying that boothill can hold a candle to acheron😭 it's so insane

I was expecting more from this video. because I didn't really learn anything that I haven't already known from just playing the game and listening to Acheron herself.
Only thing I'm curious about is how tf she get off the planet with no outside help, magic, or ect.
Like, did she become an emanator RIGHT as she accepted nihility and...just 'jump' to another planet? I mean, we know emantors are strong. Some strong enough to challenge their own Aeons and take their spot.
And if anyone is strong enough to fight the gravitational pull of a black hole...It would probably be the 'emanator'' of one. (IX, although it's not a black hole. It looks like one).
That's really my only questions.

2 possibilities, just like you said, she utilized her own Emanator power which we currently do not know what it entails, or she followed the Armed Archeologist, and then in the end, just like what she showed us what she can do to the Trailblazer which is manipulating memories, she wipe out the memories from them and even universe itself.

I dont think she's actually looking for anyone? In her bio, she met with someone in her journey, they get quite close.

Acheron’s full name in Chinese is 雷電 忘川守 芽衣, which follows the format [Last name] [Occupation] [First name]
雷電 芽衣 is just Raiden Mei, leaving 忘川守as her occupation. “忘川”is another word for acheron, and “守” means guard. So I believe Acheron serve as a person who guides the dead to escape nihility, which was shown in 2.2. That’s why she calls herself Acheron

I thought the paths were just roles they had in gameplay. Boy was I wrong. This sht runs far deeper than the elements in Genshin. The paths are like cults.
It sound a lot like Acheron didn't had a Kiana in her world. In HI3rd They defeted Kevin, the wielder of the power of End (Finality), becouse Kiana took his authority over finality and basicaly merged with it. Kiana now lives on the moon, where she basicaly took away the power of the Honkai (Kami) so it would no longer harm humanity. There are several diferent things of importance, once, Mei (Acheron) didn't killed Kevin, and didn't weilded all the power of the honkai (kami) herself, that was Kiana, and that meant that in earth, the survivors were able to continue living, prospering and slowly adapting to honkai power in very small quantities as most of the honkai is outside the planet with Kiana. But Acheron, after killing Kevin, didn't do that, and so, the world was poluted by the kami beyond repair, leaving humanity incapable of fighting against the black hole. Which is also another diferece: there is no fucking black hole in the world of HI3rd, the honkai was the strongest cosmic being in the star sistem, to the point of scareing other cosmics being, like Vita. It's dificult to know if a surviving humanity would be able to find a way to survive, but it seems that the absence of a Kiana equivalent in Acheron's world meant they never had the chance to atempt to it.
