These type of guns are used on the railway. Something I didn't know until the Torque Test Channel did a video on them because he too had made a gas powered impact. Oh and as for the torque the original gun was rated for... Just like everything else, those numbers are inflated to try to sell more. TTC proves that almost every video.
Love the videos, only just stumbled across them. You guys deserve a lot more likes and subscribers. Here in Australia I was told by an old mechanic that they used to be able to get an old VW engine and keep one side as an engine and turn the other side into an air compressor and apparently it worked quite well. Might be an interesting project for your guys with a different engine.
False! Most all won't . The old Harley Davidson golf carts did but ran points with shitty ignition timing. Which also explains why they ran like shit either direction!
You need a gear box for 2 reasons. So you can have reverse, But more important, so you can increase input RPM speed, to make the impacts harder, they must be spun around faster. More rpm=more power
As some say, the max RPM on an electric motor is about 15-30000 rpm, the petrol engine peaks about 8-12000 rpm, impact wrenches require a high spin as it relies on inertia to make the little hammers hit the cup clutch on spin
It's low on power because the gearing is designed for a higher rpm electric motor with lower torque, change that ratio to be closer to 1:1 on the motor end to the impact end and you will get more beans out of it.
Simple hack for the reverse gear ... Reverse the polarization / TIMING on the CDI / COIL so coil one is clockwise and coil 2 is counter clockwise ... This only works on 2 stroke engines. Only drawback is the gasoline motor has to be stopped to switch to the counter clockwise coil. Also for better operation at startup you will need a reverse kickstart or electric starter
@@nickthompson9697 lmao hey… could work! Back that lada up to the needed tire swap and go to work! A Lada is just a glorified John deer without the deck anyway 😂

The hammer-anvil and spring are tuned to deliver peak impulse at a specific RPM. Below that RPM, you don't have the kinetic energy to drive the impact, too far above that RPM the hammer may not engage the anvil properly. You have to operate it within the RPM sweetspot to get the maximum torque.

Why not a two stroke Lada build. I'm still waiting for a legit 4x4 build. Not the typical. I'm talking a serious Lada on 40"s or larger. One ton diffs and V 8 power. That would be a snow drift busting machine.
Good day fellers, weed wacker engines have a centrifugal clutch that is designed to run freely, any resistance on the drive end is going to cause the clutch to slip and burn.

1. Impact wrenches rely on impact, that is, the weight of the anvil and it's top speed, not torque 2. This in result means you needed to remove the reduction gearing to get top power for the tool. Essentially, acceleration of the anvil is the key component for more power.
It's a 2 stroke. It will run perfectly in reverse! The only problem is the timing is inverted. You would need to make a way to move the timing. Build another with the coil re-located. Or 2x positions? Swap leads with direction. Be sweet to see it actually run backwards!
No u have to b able to move the stator to advance the timing if running backwards. Like old ass 2stroke out boards that relied on timing for engine speed. Basically if it's running say 15 degrees advanced clockwise it's gonna b 15 degrees retarded running counterclockwise so gotta move the pick up coil to compensate.
