    In the past we made the 1st gas gun at 100K subs, and the 2nd at 200k. But when you put a chainsaw impact together and it works, you don't just let it gather dust in the corner until some number is hit. Enjoy!

    Great video, you guys are the Dr. Nefario of the Impact testing youtube community, over 40 years ago i built farm equipment in the late 70's early 80's and when we put the tractor frames together we used a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2" drive gun to install the frame bolts to the axles and double nutted each one and this was to the tune of just under 1300 ft lbs , we switched off each time and the gun was mounted on a custom dolly and had wheels that flipped up pneumatically and dowel pins that went down into the concrete floor, we had to wear customized hearing protection while performing our work, just shy of 129 DB's and were only allowed a week on and a week off, putting the tires on the axles was a cake walk compared to doing the frame, wheel torque was a tiny 500 ft lbs , love the builds , just replacing the spring in that gun could bring, my guess another 10% extra torque, we'll leave that up to you 2 Dr. Nefarios ,👍 I'll stick with my Makita mid torque it does everything i need and i have a large 3/4" drive for heavier stuff

      Hytorq are uneventful...until they're not. 😂 Had a hose blow at 7000 psi. I got an oil shower but was very lucky it didn't rupture closer to me. It's really scary when you start stretching 3 1/2" studs to 40-60 KSI. Even scarier when you get so comfortable doing it you don't think about how much pressure that is anymore. Til something goes wrong and it reminds you how squishy we are.

  • @MrThechristianwolf
    @MrThechristianwolf ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The reason why you don't see a massive increase in torque with this driver and a lot of other drivers is the anvil and dog are not tuned to the power source. Basically you need to make sure that the anvil and dog have modal frequencies where their resonances have constructive interference with each other. You also need to take into account the motor RPM so the dog and anvil can maintain the right blows per minute to continue the harmonics. This is why sometimes you can see small impacts that have a very high output, while there are others that are quite large, however their torque output is underwhelming. In my opinion, a lot of it comes down to the tuning.

    I use the M18 1-in extended anvil gun everyday for work. I work on big rigs. There are times when it is not enough and I find myself reaching for the Harbor Freight Earthquake XT to break decently rusted lugs that I feel like the M18 should have no problem with. I've been lusting after that IR for a long time but I can't afford it. Not only is the earthquake XT able to break some insanely scary looking s*** but I can't help but wonder how much more powerful it is then the Milwaukee. And it's Harbor Freight and costs sub $500 I can't help but wonder how much more powerful the other big brands are....
    I know you guys mentioned that you can't test these big guns with your current compressor setup. I'm able to run the XT on 3/4-in line from a 12 horsepower compressor with a 150 gallon tank. Line pressure will drop to about 95 PSI when giving it full beans but I don't think you can get much better than that. I guess my point is even without the correct air setup I think getting some data from the 1" air guns might help some of the guys out there that need the torque. Even if it does need a disclaimer about tested line pressure at the beginning of each video.
    Anyways, there's my little $0.03.

      @tblosser8921 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The biggest thing i've found that helps the big air guns is hooking your hose direct to the main tank, most compressors have a regulator that cant keep the pressure up. I also always use the bigger hose and couplers on 1".

  • @AlBarathur
    @AlBarathur ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There is a balance between the motor power and the hammer weight. The hammer unit itself, the leverage arm length of the anvil matters too. A shorter anvil (relative to the rotation axle) will require harder impacts pushing the limits of tool steel. However a very wide hammer reduces the ability to torque bolts making bolts closer to the floor/rock/wall/imovable object. See what you have done now I must spend the whole Sunday thinking about a large impact driver with an offset anvil so that you still can access bolts close to the floor and also have anvils with longer leverage arms.

    My Sunday go to is project farm, but I saw this monstrosity and said heck yeah!! The stihl 440 clone might get you a few more RPM’s especially if you had it ported for high end rpm

    Now you need to bolt the Holzfforma to an eggbeater impact driver. 7hp and 13k rpm should turn the egg beater into a whisk :D

    It'd be cool to see you team up with AvE, this old Tony, Abomb, or even fireball tools to come up with a slightly bigger anvil and a bigger spring design. Even if it was just slightly bigger I just like to see what gains or losses you get. Also while using the same housing.

    Definitely worth venturing back into electric to chase some real beans.. for a few hundred bucks you can get a brushless motor & power system intended to replace a 150cc engine for (large) model aeroplanes! Sky high RPM and absolute tons of power. The hard part will be finding or modding a business end to handle it.

    On big construction jobs we use big sline drive impact guns on 3/4 or some time 1 inch air lines that are instant air tankless systems the things are big and heavy. Test one of those comared to the batteries

    Seems like using that gearbox and anvil at closer to 30k rpm from a smaller electric motor should be the ticket.

    you need to do a collab with some channels like abom79 to build the impact mechanism, a hotrod chainsaw builder, and an engineering channel to complain about mechanics having too good of lives. do a proper full custom build from scratch

    I work in the track department and use these gas powered impacts almost daily, when I first started Ithought they would be stronger than they actually are.
    there are a bunch of times we end up torch cutting bolts off because the impact cant break them loose.

    Gear the LS up to 1 to 6. At 5k rpm you would be seeing 30K for the gun. Could even go 1 to 10.

  • @sno_crash

    I think the HP figures are a little overstated. For each 25cc you'll roughly obtain 1 HP running at petrol (gasoline) ... running nitro-methane you'll get approximately 2 - 2.5 HP per 25cc.

    I want to see that 12v cigarette lighter nonsense wind up impact converted to use m18 or similar battery. The thing swung way above its weight class and it would be a shame to leave it alone.
    Also, the RC motors, or ebike/small ev motors hmmm.... RC will have the RPM's. PMAC motors with a CVT is interesting. Looking forward to what you come up with.

  • @nickmcwilliams685

    Make a super capacitor boosted battery with sold copper buss bars for the IR.
    Also, get an oscilloscope and look at the voltage drop at the motor inputs on the high torque guns.

    I've said it before but will gladly say it again. Lipo batteries and the biggest BLDC motor ESC combo you can muster. Need rpm? How about 50k? Not enough you can get custom motors mad if you need 😅
