What I really love about those fights in Donnie's Ip Man movies is that both him and his opponent always both suffer and struggle. As it should be.

7:05 Twister frantically shelling up when he's introduced to Ip's rolling punches is hilarious. He just puts his guard up for dear life like *"IS HE SHOOTING AT ME WITH A GUN??? WHAT IS HAPPENING???"*
I have watched All the IP man series & this is one of the greatest fight scenes.
Twister might be very strong and durable but he's more weaker than Frank and Garton Geddes.
Edit: Ip Man can beat both of them too even when he's not in his prime.

RIP Darren Shahlavi. The iranian british actor died from a heart attack in his sleep in 2015. Theres a picture of him as a skinny kid at 19 next to his idol donnie yen. This scene is so tragic when you know he died not long after he just got his big break

@@andyman8630Not always, not usually actually. It was most likely a failure , which isn't like heart failure. He would have just lost blood and oxygen to his brain and slept through it. It's actually extremely rare for the heart attack your speaking of, tge one where the heart cranks and locks up, but failure is common and fast, usually happen while awake and makes you very tired and you sleep.
Talented man! He was in quite a few movies and had a lot of roles that required fight choreography. He seemed like a really nice and humble dude too, he really admired his costars like Donnie Yen, Van Damme, and Sylvester Stallone.

@@AXharoth It wasn't so much a boxing match but a clash between two martial arts. Kicking and other low maneuvers were fine and dandy there until things started going slightly south for Twister, it became a boxing match mid-fight.

Wing Chun will get wrecked by every style. That's why Bruce Lee started incorporating multiple styles to slowly form Jeet Kune Do. (Teenage Bruce actually trained in western boxing, alongside Wing Chun).
Wing Chun is a great martial art in terms of beauty, art, and culture. But realistically, it's pretty ineffective in a fight.

It's an interesting match up of styles and physicality. The boxer has a significant strength and weight advantage. The martial artist has a more well rounded fighting style and more ways to finish an opponent. This was very well done.
It really was!! I remember seeing this for the first time 10 years ago when I was 15 and thinking “man, I love fight choreography!”
Now? I’m certified in BSC (Basic Stage Combat) and MCT (Military Combative Training) and I still look back on this in appreciation. Of course it’s not 100% realistic. What movie is? 😂. But it’s darn close! And it’s perfectly choreographed.
It’s just such a shame that the actor who played Twister passed away the same year I got to enjoy this 😔😞

Donnie Yen and his old colleague Sammo Hung Kam Bo always make s great show.
Every martial arts discipline has gaps which can be exploited by the trained. The importance of Bruce Lee is that he is one of a long lineage of innovators who refined and introduced other martial art's elements into a consistent form. It didn't hurt that he had charisma and the heart to evolve from a street fighter through personal development.

I still think that fight against japanese general from first movie is the best. Transition from actual combat to mannequin was outstandding. It showed that Ip Man's strength was forged by training, constant and relentless training.

Ipman movie series were not just martial arts movie, you also needed a skilled actor who could also act, and donnie yen proved it with his acting he can do dramatic roles too. He did over the top, that karate mat scene is also an example of combat with acting skills.
