Not arguing, I’m saying the song when originally released was sung by and written with Art in mind. Now did Paul Simon ever sing it, I definitely don’t know. If you go to TH-cam you can see the history of the song.
I apologise in advance if anybody is upset when I say that this is one of the greatest vocal performances ever. Paul Simon is and was one of the greatest songwriters from a generation who cared about that. Paul wrote this ssong for his fiend to perform, and by god , didi he ever,
And there is this same boring response for every song from the past. So boring. Besides, this is a studio recorded song. There is plenty of studio manipulations when recording a record.
No, there wasn’t a lot of ‘studio manipulation’, friend. Early ‘60s. Real singers, real people playing real instruments- no high tech. Just our transistor radios to listen.
Not a cover, Paul Simon wrote it. Their songs are full of emotion. Try my personal favourite, "Kathy's Song". Art Garfunkel describes it as Paul Simon's best love song.
I like this one, but I prefer Elvis' cover of it much more. His voice was just really suited for this sort of song. Paul Simon liked it too, he said this of it when he first heard it? “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, ‘How the hell can I compete with that?’” Of course, the original is always the original and stands on its own merits, and was certainly a great song from them.
This is DEFINATELY the original of Bridge over Troubled Water. Just amazing to hear Art Garfunkels voice, just incredible. Even better, having Paul Simon to join in too!! Superb!!!
Best and most emotional song ever written. I'm 57 and it still brings tears to my eyes. This song will rip the heart out of the toughest man. We all feel like this at some point in our lives and need a friend.
Art Garfunkel has one of the most eerily beautiful voices that has never been matched in the 50 years since this song was released. He is by far the most underrated singer ever.
There is not a single note that can be added or taken away. A true masterpiece from the days before digital voice enhancement and digital instruments. I’m glad I grew up in the era of this music.
I nearly lost my husband in 2020. He was in the ICU for weeks. I heard this on my phone while I was in the waiting room. I sobbed like a baby. Every time I hear it now, it brings fresh tears. My husband did make it thankfully but this song will always have deep meaning for me.

Paul Simon's greatest achievement as a songwriter & studio craftman... its not a cover!!! Unrelentingly beautiful, fresh out of the oven to close the door on the 60's... a Gardunkel vocal & recording for the ages, my friend
I bought the album when I was 15. Been listening to this original tune for 47 years now. Never listened to any cover of it, for this must be the best version of them all.
Paul Simon wrote all their songs.. he is the dark haired man..Art Garfunkel is the blond and has a voice of an angel. Paul Simon is a master when it comes to his song writing.
Nice reaction! BTW, they didn't cover this.... Paul Simon wrote it... they're the original.. It's such a beautiful song. Emotional reactions are right on point! 😉
Special meaning for me, too. I lost my significant other to cancer. His last days on earth, I would lay next to him and sing this to hi. I know he heard me…
It’s OK to get emotional because every time I hear this song I cry like a baby. Paul Simon wrote that song Simon and Garfunkel are the original’s to that song. And nobody sing it like art Garfunkel. Beautiful absolutely beautiful.❤️
Simon & Garfunkel's greatest version of this is from their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. As gorgeous as Art's voice is, the song's next-level magic is when Paul's vocal joins in during the "Sail on silver girl" verse.
"Don't get mad at me if I get emotional". All I could think of was, buckle up,... I can't get through this song with out get teary eyed myself. One of my all time faves. This original beats them all imho.
This is the original written by Paul Simon, the dark haired one. Art's angelic voice. One of the best songwriters. Have you reacted to Sounds of Silence? Another Simon original
Paul Simon wrote it as a small gospel song with gospel piano. The producer insisted it needed to be longer. He added "Sail on Silver Girl. . ." and orchestration. Against the producers wishes he insisted that Art Garfunkle should sing it solo.
They didnt cover this song...Paul Simon wrote this song and Art Garfunkel is singing lead.. This is the original recording made in 1970....every other version you have heard is a cover from this original.
