Excellent shooting with iron sights at 50 yards.

Good group at 50 yards with that beast. The Smith .460 I just got is an absolute handful out at 50 with my wonky vision. I still can't decide if I wanna put some type of optic on it.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Man I saw that big Smith of yours! NICE! I am tempted to put an optic on this one too just too see what I can get it to do. I actually shot a GREAT group as my warm up before I turned the camera on. But you know how TH-cam works, if it didn't happen on camera, it didn't happen....LOL That's why I didn't talk about it in the video. I am going to try for it again one day when it's nicer out though. Thanks for stoppin in!

Beautiful gun. This intrigues me. I really havent shot many of the huge calibers! I've shot thousands of .44 magnums. But the only others is a couple cylinders of .454 casull in the freedom arms single action. My dad actually worked at the factory that use to make them many years ago. Then ice shot the .50 A&E desert eagle, a couple of magazines. They both shot great.
Great video brother. Thanks for sharing.
      God bless all here.

I’d imagine it’d help! I seen a guy on video with a Burris gen 2 red dot that worked pretty well on that rail. Optics Planet had it on sale for $134 I believe which isn’t that bad. 👍🏻

Great Shooting! With all the so called "shooters" out their, you are the only one who actually exhibits what a truly "Accurate" and skilled shooter is! Most of the others just shoot fast and close up, talk a good game, but have no concept or true ability to aim accurately from 7-15-25 let alone 50 yards! Keep showing us what real aiming skill is. I do see accuracy with Archery shooters but not in the pistol community.

I have been a fan of hand cannons for years and let me tell you, thats some fine shooting. I couldnt do that with open sights at 50 yards, my eyes are just too old. I would have to have a scope to shoot that group at 50 yards. Damn fine shooting and recoil management sir!

I bought my 460sw mag strictly for self defense against big dangerous critters, not really for longer range target shooting. I feel 25-30 yards is all I will use it for. I hope to start to reload my own rounds soon. Your 50 yard group is excellent.

I bought two of those carports over 2 years back in 2011 and they still look brand new, one of them I bought enough tin in the same color and covered both sides and the back, it cut down on the amount of wind whipping through it and I bet would even hold a little heat, they make a roll up door to go on these as well, although I don’t use mine on my range i could see it being a good asset in the winter and for those days you wanna go shoot but it’s raining

My 460 is a S&W Performance Center 12" barrel and Burris scope so much heavier. I shoot Hornady 200 gr. FTX for whitetail. I like wearing hunting gloves when I shoot it, especially at the range due to the recoil. Nice videos. Very informative.

If accuracy degrades it usually is caused by heat expansion of the barrel. I fired a 458 winchester ruger #1 single shot to 250 yards after the third shot the barrel was so hot spit would steam. My 45 70 takes a little longer to heat up but I don't let it get that hot. Also sometimes barrel fouling can occur rapidly with certain powders and loads, and projectile composition, which can effect accuracy.

That's some pretty mild ammo for the 460. Even if it was at advertised velocities that is still pretty slow for a 300gr projectile.
then again, the only ammo I've been able to get my hands on for my 460 is HSM bear load. And I think the box I got was loaded extra hot as I had signs of over-pressure.

It uses 100 grains of 777 FFF it likes your .45 caliber xtp 300 grain or the .44 caliber 240 grain with sabot..the numbers are very similar to your .460..I got a 2x6 elite Bushnell pistol scope..

Buffalo, there is truth in the saying "The hand is quicker than the eye", what happens to most precision shooters is our nerves react differently at any given moment, some days we have better control of our reflexes, some times not, sometimes all in the same day. the way your hand nerves react at the moment of primer ignition and sight alignment is disturbed is what makes the group widen, we over time learn better control, however, it is difficult to repeat precisely with our hold under the motion of movement in the firearm. That is why some days are better than others. and that's my two cents or opinion. -Dave

I think the extreme heat from the ignition on those rounds causes the tolerance in the barrel to affect to bullet speed. What do I know, I'm listening to the national championship game, eating chili dogs drinking ipa and watching Buffalo. Oh wanted to say. Geez Buffalo, that was an excellent group ! But I will continue to watch to see if you can improve on it. By the way.....see if you can find a little kid in the neighborhood and ask him/her if they'd like to shoot a gun. Uh.........just kidding !! Signed, Doug.

Excellent and fun review. Cold... and epic handgun. A Beast of a handgun trying to decide on the 6.26 or the 8" plus prior to ordering it? For target and some hunting.

I have fallen in love with the 460 round, but I can only shoot 5 to 10 round's at one time. I have the 8 and 3/8th and the 6.75 inch, but I find the 6.75 is like the sweet spot for me. Off a bench or stick's the longer one is fine, but for hunting most of the the time the 6.75 in is just easier. I know their is a guy in Alaska who make's excellent chest rig's, at least according to Alaskan ballistics and Chukes outdoors. Now I have to check it out for myself. Their is a TH-cam channel called Marc Thomas from Pennsylvania who make's custom holster's and they are gorgeous. If you check him out, tell him I sent you. He also make's knives which are awesome. He's just starting out on and has 600+ sub's but growing quickly.

Thanks for the lead on some holster options, I really appreciate it. I'm going to look into them. I'll also check out Marc Thomas and let him know you sent me over.
