I had the same results out of my Winchester 69 while testing different ammo to se which one it liked the best. It dropped so much compared to standard 22lr that I stopped shooting it. If you are going to shoot it regularly you need a dedicated rifle for it.
Buffalo's channel is one of a couple that feels like a friend telling it to me straight and I don't leave feeling like I've been conned. I appreciate your videos.
Buffalo quickly became one of my favorites on TH-cam. He’s the guy I reference for people who are new to guns but eager to learn more. He describes things very clearly and is a great place for anyone to learn more about ballistics and see fun shooting. And of course I’m not the only one who loves “Hello guys and gals, Buffalo here!
One of the great finds this weekend is your channel thank god for it and your family safe shooting videos for the whole family. God bless and stay safe
Always a pleasure Buffalo, I’ve never used those myself. If I want something a little quieter I use .22 shorts. They shoot very well through my Henry 002. Thanks for all your good work.
First, I love your range. Seems like such a nice peaceful place to relax. So surprising that you could get such a variety of .22 ammo. CCI is the best. Great video. Thanks.
Gave my dad a Mossberg 502 plinkster a few years ago. With the rifle, I gave him a box of the CCI quiets. They work great with dispatching ground hogs on his property. Great video man.
I am a big fan of the cci quiet loads. One of my favorite plink rounds. For yrs i had used CB shorts then longs eventually the quiets came along. I think they are a little bit louder with the slightly bigger charge to push the 40 gr instead the 29gr. at the same 710fps. The cb's are also just enough to not really need much or any hearing protection depending on surroundings. A bunch of cb long ammo and my 6 inch model 17 s&w was a fine use of a warm afternoon plinking around the yard. No empty shotshell or milk cap was safe.
We like these rounds for practice with our NAA...the softer recoil much easier on our old hands...we are out of them right now, but sooner/later they will show up again...worth the couple extra dollars for how we use them...
I've never seen a video on these, thanks for doing something different. I'm gonna give the originals a try if I can find some. Really appreciate your videos 👍👍
I use the standard Quiet in my back yard and at 25-30 yards they move along but can't cycle my Ruger 10/22 so it becomes a single shot. Same for my Beretta 92 22lr. Great option for shooting when you want to stay off the neighbor's radar.
@@anon8429 I've shot hundreds through my Ruger and not a single one ever cycled. Maybe the semi auto variety will work but I've never been able to find them. Like Buffalo demonstrated, accuracy at 25 yards is excellent.
I've tried them in my 10/22 and while there was no surprise at being single-shot, the rounds kept having feed failures and the bullet would get all bent in the case.
@@randystevens6302 Yeah, I cycle the bolt handle while using a BX-25 mag and then it would only come halfway forward with the round lodged at an angle. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Brother you are awesome, with that 22 rifle. I have a Henry 22 lever action. Also a 10/22 rifle. Your very right. Open sights. That's how I was trained. Keep it going.
Nice video. I agree with your logic on supressors, and feel the same way.Eley used to make a .22 LR round with a 40 grain bullet at around 650 fps that was quite accurate at 50 yards. I think I still have a box here somewhere.
Great video, and very informative.I really appreciate your channel. Not only for the great content, but also for what it DOESN'T have. I don't need lead ins with explosions, lightning bolts, smoke and all the other crap some other channels have. I'm a happy camper with the great banjo pickin'!!
In my Winchester 94 .22 which had a 21 or 22 inch barrel (I cant check because I no longer have it) I found even the CCI HP 1050 FPS was almost as quiet as my suppressed 12 inch Ruger 10/22 (I live in England and our minimum barrel length is 11.75 inches) so I never bothered to put a suppressor on it.
I've played around with this series for a couple of years. The higher velocity quiets and 970 fps cci suppressor round are the way to go on a semiautomatic. I run them in a dpms panther I've made a designated 22 using a cmmg conversion bolt and mag. For a little extra on the noise reduction check out the Ar-stoner linear compensator. I run one on my setup. Its threaded 1/2x 28 and it projects all gases forward. It tones down the perceived noise even more and you can snag one for $30-40 at the most. A great little compliment for a legal "can" for this round.
This was a nice fun to watch & very informative video that is very enjoyable to see. I haven’t got the segmented version yet, I had a chance to but decided the other two are plenty for us(my sons & I). The semi auto run well in everything we have & are very accurate for $5 a box of 50. The 710fps quiet we have found runs well in my CZ 457 28” Jaguar 1/2x28, 1976 Remington 572 pump, 1968 Wards Westerfield 87a, 1949 Remington 550-1 and of course my revolvers. Your chrono data is very informative & helpful. Thanks for your work here. Nice to know passing on the segment variety wasn’t a poor decision. The semi auto is really good(my go to) especially for our older match pistols, it runs flawlessly! It’s fun out of our 1982 Marlin model 60, 1943 Winchester 74, & Ruger 10/22. We agree, freedom is the greater good!
Great job. You did what most of us would not have done, so the education was worth our time to watch. Now most of us don't have to do the work. If a quiet shot is required we can make a reasonably intelligent choice in what to by without having to buy all three. Good education, Bro.
Just watched this one, and Part II, today, but no sooner than I watched them back to back, I had some tree trimming to do. Now I'm back, and want to comment. Thanks for this two-part series, Buffalo. It was *very* helpful. I'm wanting to upgrade from an air rifle to deal with squirrels in my pecan tree, but I live within city limits. So I was thinking quiet ammo in a 10/22 carbine. Some time back I bought some boxes of the Aguila Colibrí rounds ( the "regulars" at 420 fps, not the Super ones) and have used them on rats and possums. (We may live in the city, but we keep chickens and quail and rabbits and garden.) The Colibrí rounds are no louder than a cap gun, and worked okay on rats, but took a couple of rounds to dispatch a possum (those varmints have a tough hide). BTW, I fired those rounds through a Ruger Wrangler from around 6' away.. So I started searching for info/videos on quiet ammo with some actual gunpowder in the casing. I knew about CCI Quiets, so I started my search with that. And, Lo! And Behold! Buffalo came through for me. I was thinking of using the Quiet-22 stuff in a 10/22 carbine, so I'll probably go with some of the Semi-Auto version. Thanks for this.
Great vid Buffalo, love the quiet CCI bullets. Great test and results. I have a nutra problem in my area and these keep the neighbors from complaining. Keep up the good work.
Brilliant as always Buffalo thanks. Moderators are used widely in the UK for most calibres. Not required by law, but it is entered on your Firearms Certificate. I find with 22lr rounds such as the CCI supersonics that the moderator makes no difference to noise level. Silence being paramount in pest control, I use Norma Subs at about 980fps. The only "noise" is the action, and the target being hit. Minimum disturbance is essential. Good to 100 yards with holdover out of a CZ457. Very tight groups on paper at all ranges up to 125 yards. I am dreading the lead ban, already tried Norma "Eco". Accurate but the crack makes pest control a joke, shoot one rabbit and the rest disappear. Always enjoy your honest and down to earth videos.
I used the 735fps version and it only cycled in my HK416-22 half the time .. I figured that's why they called it "semi-auto". Your thoroughness in your videos is exemplary. Great info.
Been watching a number of your videos and honestly it is the video of this nature that is a little off the beaten path but gives straight up no BS information and an honest personal opinion that had me just hit the subscribe button. Making videos that covers relevant products and topics relating to rimfires that others are not covering in depth is exactly what we need, not just another rehash that is saying the same thing as 20 other channels. This ammo seems excellent for close in quiet varmint/pest control and we all know how something shoots or groups out of one rifle may mean little when shot out of a different platform. The Henry or really any .22lr lever action and these ammo's at 25yards and less for smaller critter control seems like a match made for each other if noise has a bearing on your shooting location. Also should be able to pretty easily with the lighter tension bolt return springs available be able to tune a 10/22 to cycle the pretty reliably also. For non match everyday .22lr plinking and field hunting ammo CCI is hard to beat overall for performance/cost.
I love all of these. It’s a terrible addiction now. Its unbelievable how quiet they actually are. I also have some that are like 1050, but I haven’t seen the one at 835, but I will look for some. I had a little better luck accuracy wise with the segmented out of my BMR Bergara. I like it for shooting pest without bothering anyone or spooking the horses. I like that it is less likely to ricochet too. I used to use a 17 HMR for that purpose, but at close ranges, this does the job much more quietly. I can also tell you that 7 year olds enjoy shooting the original quiet as well. They are just great products. Thanks for the video.
Enjoyed today's range test, Buff, and look forward to the gel test. Had to smile when I saw you wearing an OG's Danger Show branded garment. I'm one of his branded garment-wearing fans, too. You're right about freedom being the greater good, and OG is right, too, with his statement: "Nobody is coming. It's up to you."
Just watched this video. And a great job! I’ve followed for a little bit and have numerous vids to catch up on (which I am). But this is one of the best videos I’ve seen information wise! Not just of your videos, but flat out on YT! Great job! And killer data, as I am seeking something along these lines for some squirrel hunting out of my old Savage BA.
Excellent video, I have shot a bunch of the CCI Quiets and have always thought that ammo was nothing more than niche at best and would have ever expected that level of accuracy!
Very good video. Have used .40 gn for skunks and other varments since they came out. Does not disturb the neighbors at night. Welcome to the weather of northern MI.
I have a few bricks of the original Quiets and a brick of Semi Auto quiets. I LOVE shooting them out of my Henry h001 too!! The kids love them too...it is a great combo for new shooters...the Henry Lever and low noise...lots of fun. Great video by the way..one of your best
Awesome vid. We love shooting the quiets for plinking an even close range squirrel an rabbit hunting. I’m gonna have to pick up some of those quiet autos for the marlin 60. 👍🏼
Another great review. I always learn alot watching your videos. It amazes me how each gun can be so different. For instance, my CZ 455 Tacticool shot the segmented the best, 5 shot 1.58" groups @ 60yds. And 2.28"groups with the original lead round nose @ 60 yds. Go figure!!! Just for fun I've shot the CCI Quiets out to 200 yds. At that distance I have to dial 15.6 mils on my scope. That translates to about 10 feet of bullet drop. But to my surprise was able to hit a 5" steel plate about 1 out of every 7 shots. I know that 20" groups at 200 yds is considered pretty poor. But I didn't think it was too bad for an ammo designed for 30 yds and under. On an interesting side note, the 20" group @ 200 yds was only 6" wide. I'm guessing the velocity deviation is causing that type of stringing??? But I had fun experimenting with the limits of this ammo. Keep the great videos coming. We really appreciate your content and the manner in which you present it.
It's great that you're making this content. Well done. It can't be stressed enough how quiet CCI Quiet is compared to any .22lr subsonic I've ever tried (never tried it in the newer semiauto version). It's not even close. In a bolt action rile in an outdoor environment it was shockingly quiet. I found accuracy to be poor, even out of some high end rifles. At 25 yards you could hit just about any reasonably sized target, if shooting pests, head shots wouldn't be a problem - BUT - at 750ish fps with a 40gr bullet the trajectory, which is a crack up, along with the loss of accuracy versus your favorite ammo makes 50yd shots a little iffy. I would say a tennis ball would be in trouble but a ping pong ball might be a real challenge. You could body shoot a large pest at that distance I guess, but that's a questionable thing to do (unless you're being attacked by zombie rabbits or something similar). Remember, this is .22 air gun territory, 550 to 850fps with about a 13gr bullet, but you're lobbing a projectile that's triple the weight at 750fps. I prefer my old RWS air rifle if I need to be super quiet (it's maybe even quieter!) but being able to shoot all of my old bolt action, lever, slide action and single shots with a safe backstop without people knowing or being bothered is a great thing. Absolutely no need to wear any type of ear protection either
Having purchased some of the CCI quiet 22 semi-auto version and some the original version, I was interested to see someone actually comparing results. Thanks for that!
I alternate between the quiet 22LR and 22 short CB with my Henry for rodent control or plinking. They both have similar sound levels and velocities; aside from 40gr vs 29 gr., they pretty much perform the same way for what I use them for. Excellent video!
Loved the video, and thank you for making it! I picked up 20 boxes or so of the segmented HP last month for $3 per at my pawn shop, they just couldn't move the stuff. I was awfully curious and impressed with the results. I also had to cycle every shot out of my 10/22, and pistol. The noise reduction was impressive. I'm going to have to try them out of a revolver, but I doubt there'd be much, if any noise reduction on account of the cylinder gap. Well now I have another reason to have a lever action .22
Great video! I like the CCI Quiet .22LR original load. I’ve got an old Savage Westpoint .22 bolt action with a bull barrel. I think it’s a 20 inch barrel. Have to measure it to be sure but it’s my dedicated Quiet .22 LR shooter. It shoots them tight in one hole groups at about 25 yards like your bolt gun did and I use those rounds to dispatch varmints in my yard and keep noise low for the neighbors. Those rounds work surprisingly well at close ranges.
Thanks Buffalo. I'm with you re: suppressors. Nothing against them, but I just don't have a need for one and YES, the NFA should be repealed. In my High Standard target pistol I use only CCI Standard Velocity, my wife uses Wolf Match Target in her CZ 457 when she is shooting for groups. They are very quiet. I am sure the "Quiet" rounds are even more so. The down side is that range estimation becomes very important. As your test shows. If you misjudge the distance to a squirrel, for example, by 10 yds. you could easily miss. 👍
Great review. Thank you. You also bring back good memories I have of spending time in the Deep South. I think you managed to fit 4 syllables into the word 'sound'. I.e., "Sah-Oww-unn-duh" I love it
I have a Henry h001 and 2 black Ruger Wranglers. I shoot the CCI 22 short copper-plated hollow points- Varmint 27grain-1105fps . Not much noise from them. And for a little more bang CCI Mini Mags 40 grain 1235 fps. I always thought the quiets were a little under powered out here in the country . Great vid , keep up the great work. ""Jeanie in Iowa""
I too like the CCI Quiet for the same reason. Less obvious evening or night time dispatch of pest. I find they are quieter than my my FX Dreamline PCP air rifle (we are not allowed suppressors even on air rifles in Canada). Great video and look forward to the ballistic gel tests.
Appreciate the info Buffalo!! I guess I should have been using paper when I was testing. Have extensively played around with the CCI CB shorts. I think they're actually a little quieter then the CCI Quiets. Can regularly connect at 40 yards with its 29 grain bullet. That's single loading them in an AR7 autoloader. They run extremely well out of my Rossi pump that's designed for 22 short. The CCI Quiets have been tougher to find in my area. The CCI CBs are fine for taking care of problem rabbits in the Garden. The CCI CB shorts will pass through half inch plywood at reasonable distances. For problem raccoons or foxes, if you're going to use 22LR, the new CCI Quiet 45 grain is probably the way to go. Appreciate all you do sir!!
Fascinating tests. I was surprised how much drop at 50 yards there was.
They do have a steep trajectory. I'd imagine it gets a lot more dramatic beyond 50! I ALWAYS appreciate you stopping in!
They drop at 10 yards. I’ve shot shorts and longs along side SV and high velocity out of revolvers, and they drop a fair amount at 10 yards
Hi jeff!
Love the "ODs Gendershow" hoodie!
I had the same results out of my Winchester 69 while testing different ammo to se which one it liked the best. It dropped so much compared to standard 22lr that I stopped shooting it. If you are going to shoot it regularly you need a dedicated rifle for it.

Not just of your videos, but flat out on YT! Great job! And killer data, as I am seeking something along these lines for some squirrel hunting out of my old Savage BA.
Buffalo I feel the same about nfa items . Not going to give them any more reasons to come into my home! Like to have a suppeser tho .🇺🇲🇺🇲👍👍🙏🙏
Awesome! Thanks for all of the great knowledge and I agree about the ATF/NFA!💯
I really enjoy the “quiet rounds”. Thanks for the video!
Great video. Subscribed. Just picked up some CCI Quiets and enjoyed the test, unlike the groundhogs will this summer!
The REALEST guntuber on the net!
Another great video, Buffalo. Agree 100% with your position on NFA items and refuse to get one for now also. Keep up the good work.
Keep up with your down to earth observations, I enjoy your posts.
Another excellent, enjoyable video. I really like the weed eater line suggestion!
I have a bunch of CCI Quiet for our Henry lever. Great stuff.
Sounds like a quiet riot on those targets over there!!! Good idea with the weed eater string.
Good idea using trimmer line too check the bore. I am cutting a piece now to put in the gun travel bag.
Great job as usual , Rain or shine (or snow) you are consistent and precise. Thank You , Good Luck to You and Yours.
Thank you Buffalo for sharing.
Jim
Interesting video Buffalo, always look forward to your posts.
Those are some very quiet 22s, quieter than the subsonic 22 I have in the truck. Great work Buffalo, thanks.
The video felt like it was made for me 🤣 when you mentioned that it might not be so popular I was like... I’m loving this video!!
Squibs are probably responsible for more injuries than anything other than just carelessness.
That's a nice looking hoodie! "Nobody is coming!" Good review and very helpful. Ill pick some up IF I can find any.
Thanks Buff, another great video! Really enjoy your channel alot.
Great video. I really like the quiets. Great comparison. Excellent advice on the weedeater string. I'll add that to my kit.
Excellent VDO as always - Thank you!
Great video, I've never heard of this ammunition before very interesting
Great show Buffalo
Excellent Video, Thanks Brother Buffalo.
👍
Your absolutely right about having to petition the government for a suppressor. Good video
Solid information, thanks. I also shoot all the three of those in various rifles and a glock .22 conversion kit, and I am very pleased with it.
That was an excellent review Mr B.O. Thank You.
Wow! I'm really late to the party. But glad to be here. Another great review like only Buffalo can do! Now I can watch the gel tests😉
I have used these for years , I love them. I use them the same way you do. Out of my Henry and my bolt guns. It’s just easier on the ears lol
Love what you stand for brother be blessed!!!
Great review. Thank you.
You also bring back good memories I have of spending time in the Deep South. I think you managed to fit 4 syllables into the word 'sound'.
I.e., "Sah-Oww-unn-duh"
I love it
I have a Henry h001 and 2 black Ruger Wranglers. I shoot the CCI 22 short copper-plated hollow points-
Varmint 27grain-1105fps . Not much noise from them. And for a little more bang CCI Mini Mags 40 grain
1235 fps.
I did not know it snowed so much there after watching a whole lot of your videos this weekend it looks like it snows as much as Washington state does
Appreciate the info Buffalo!!
