Ernst, thank you for sharing these important insights of the Afrikaners history, and the determination of Solidarity to build a new Afrikaner people, who will through self help become independent. Oranje being a fine example of them sustaining the young children in a culture they can be proud of. By putting God first who can ever lose this endeavour? The Lord BLESS you as you continue playing an important part of the Afrikaner in today's World with the Helping Hand Org.

Let me switch to being English, the streets were clean, crime was low, we had jobs, no influx from across the borders, there was order. Our Education was the best. I worked for “ NATIONAL COOPERATIVE DAIRIES “ they were in Mayfair JHB, as a computronic operator in the 1960’s I went further to work for Nedbank on Commissioner Street in JHB. I am a woman in my seventies. I will emphatically say there was no country in the world that could compare with SOUTH AFRICA her culture, food, hospitality and respecting our elders and each other. Why are black Americans calling it the mother land. It’s not theirs, they are opportunists, coming into South Africa making TH-cam channels making as if they belong and we do not. South African Afrikaner work hard do not give up what rightfully belongs to you and us that help build this country. A story for another day my father did a lot for South Africa. he played a major role in the coloured communities, coloured people started working in Banks, Insurance companies and lots more. He had long gone was never acknowledged for his work. If you do wish I could email and talk about?

Thanks Ernst for a great refreshing history lesson. Without the Afrikaans community and academics, this country would be in a far worse situation.

Maybe you could start by justifying your stance and detailing your efforts to get this country moving forward. Not all of us can be Rob Hersovs, but would strongly suggest you put a hand on the spanner instead of putting a spanner in the works of those who love this country and are active in promoting good governance.

@@alberthapienaar1968 Hi Albertha Pienaar? I hope you are aware of this: a sad inclusion into the 'Afrikaner hiStory is this: some fair skinned Coloureds were persuaded in 1948 to 'Try for White' so they could get ID books and be re-Classified as 'White", allowing the Afrikaner to beat the British at the 1948 general Election.. - some such people grew up with us in the dusty streets of 3 co-Located areas in Pretoria: Cape Coloured Reserve or Cape Location, so named after Paul Kruger established a Location for Cape Coloureds, next to Asiatic Bazaar, next to Marabastad , so named after the 'Native Chief Maraba'.. so jammer dat nie al die 'suiwer wit bloed' wat deel is van die Afrikaners Kultuur, nie eintlik so 'onsuldig en 'rein-wit' is nie? Kom ons neem ALLE KOMPONENTE van die volle waarheid in ag, God het mos immers die waarheid lief? Onthou, ek stel myself voor as a 'bruin Afrikaner van Griekwa herkoms' so SA het 'n lang pad om te stap na TRUE RECONCILIATION.. all nations belong to the human race..as early as 1941 the Atlancitc Charter attempted to describe a world of 'Human Rights' for co-existence.. read it, it gives great insight on SA's failings to accept other races & ethnic groupings...GLOBALLY. It's 100% OK for an English-speaking South African to feel extremely proud of this country, if they were born here. We ALL have contributed positively to building this nation, albeit in different ways. As a prime example of how a true South African should see themselves, we need to only look at the Springbok rugby squad.

Lol... You can never own history
Voortrekkers yes, they were God fearing, hard working, family people who cared about their community who read their Bible and prayed
How many spend time trying to build up their community or even spend time around the table reading the Bible as a family.
So many living in squatter camps going hungry, young people, children and sad to say our eldery.
Boer/Afrikaner/English speaking. Then you have a cheek to claim history.
People praise God and post little praying hands which means 0
Best read what Jesus says about feeding, clothing, visiting the sick and looking after the orphans and widows.
How many truly know their Bible..... Loving your neighbor this is one of God's commandments. Read them

The saddest is the elderly who ALSO shaped this country English, Boer Afrikaner whatever have been tossed to one side.
We've become a throw away society, don't want an animal anymore, just dump it at an animal shelter and make it their problem or along a road
So yes absolutely nothing to be proud of at all
Think God cares about what nation or color one is. No, it's about ones heart and love for others

One of my ancestors was wounded at Blood River. My Grandmother was born in a British concentration camp. The women and children ended up there after their farm has been sacked and burnt three times by British troops. The first two times, my family were protected and hidden by the workers on the farm. One of the great tragedies of the Afrikaner is that after 1994, the ANC were actually very wary of the Afrikaners as a force to be reckoned with, but our own people let us down, we did not stand together, we allowed ourselves to be split into interest groups or we were too occupied by our day-to-day lives and did not "help-mekaar", by joining together and becoming a real force to be reckoned with. Maybe this can change in the future, but I see no signs of this happening. The huge institutions that were built up by the Afrikaners have been destroyed and those that remain simply act as bottom-line focused businesses with no interest in the Afrikaner. Cry the beloved country.

... that "bad and unsustainable idea" was premissed on the broader program to BUILD industrial zones closer to the various regions where indiginous peoples lived i.e. Homelands, with the purpose to not disrupt traditional family life. The premise to respect the customary differences and regions, in additional to inalienable rights and the right to self determination.
The pass laws were not intended to obstruct migration, to limit access to education nor to deprive people of employment opportunities in South Africa. The pass laws were an essential regulatory mechanism to regulate the movements of undesirable individuals. As with every Institutional mechanism the system could be abused. But, the unique form of segregation called apartheid as envisaged by Verwoerd sought to uplift ALL citizens in the Republic while shielding citizens within our borders. Nationalism is an important and most powerful force. Our enemies and those with divided loyalties work tirelessly to undermine it.
Remember, South Africa is older than the America's!

so sad.. please - just to clear a path for forgiveness: find a way to Reconcile.. ADMIT the UNGODLY system of Apartheid is was and always be abhorrent in the eyes of the entire human race.. it does your Christian Faith much good if you's can own up to the truth and then receive [earn?] our [and God's] true and lasting forgiveness??

As a descendent of Dutch farmers, who came into the country in the 1650's, French entrepreneurs who fled France as refugees and became soldiers for the Dutch East India Company, 1820 settlers and captains of merchant ships, A British soldier who came to South Africa Asa policeman, but joined the permanent force living in Cape Town Castle among many other roots, I was both English and Afrikaans but many so called Afrikaners rejected my family because of our surname. It was easier to adopt English as my mother tongue in spite of my mother being an Afrikaner. So although I am proud of my heritage, the failure of the Afrikaner in acceptance of the definition of those who make up the Afrikaner people is probably the biggest contributor to failure of the culture.

Ernst the defeat of the Boer War (1899-1901), proved in reality to be a great victory for the Afrikaner. The Union of 1910 just 9 years later saw government of the two Afrikaner Republics and two former British colonies determined by white men, of which Afrikaners were a majority.
How surprised would the voortrekkers have been at that outcome ? The 1931 Statute of Westminster granted South Africa full legislative independence making South Africa a fully independent country.
A tale of suffering yes, as have so many nations, but victory attained beyond the ambitions of anyone like Paul Kruger and Afrikaners in general. Let us not join the global progressive politics of historical victim ideology. Discriminated against today , yes.- that is relevant. Where are the global anti-racism campaigners?
Sadly post 1994 brings unprecedented challenges, but your approach of self-reliance is the way forward.

Same people but, as Ernst explained, the rebellion of 1914 caused tension and division in their midst.
Some people have very long memories. Stubbornness and klipkoppigheid (stone heads) let some people still cling to those very painful days. Some descendants of the rebels call themselves Boers (although they are Afrikaners) and the rest are Afrikaners (although they are also proud of the term Boers). The term Boer is - of course - derived from the fact that the early Afrikaners were almost everyone a farmer.
I may also add that people who call themselves Boers (and not Afrikaners) are dissatisfied with a peaceful, calm and respectful approach to a solution where a small minority must survive against seemingly insurmountable odds without losing their identity (which is diverse in itself). They want a more aggressive approach whatever it may be. I am not sure they themselves know what such an approach should entail.

In South Africa, there are a lot of Afrikaans-speaking people who are not Afrikaners.
South Africa is a complex country, with group identities within group identities. How do we shake off our history? English is asaociated with colonialism. Afrikaans is associated with apartheid. isiZulu is associated with the Mfecane. And so on.
I think we do pretty well as South Africans in embracing our diversity.
This video is misleading. The new South Africa embraced the motto 'strength in our diversity'.
