This is a truly fantastic piece. It captures all of the aspects of Orlesian culture and I love how it makes you feel as though you are in Halamshiral participating in the Game... simply amazing.
In Dragon Age: Origins, the Orlesians were a distant, unseen power; a stereotype of a decadent court with an apparent fixation on fashion, and not much else. Come Inquisition, they are a rich and fascinating culture with an instantly recognizable look, feel and sound that makes you feel transported to another time and place. This, I feel, is what sums up the difference between Origins and Inquisition. Origins was a fun and intelligent reconstruction of the fantasy genre, but Inquisition is so much better at maintaining your suspension of disbelief.
+Jjames763 I think it fits perfectly for both games to be honest: in Origins, the Warden received no help from Orlais. They quite literally were a weird foreign power the Warden had probably never seen and couldn't comprehend beyond the stereotype of anecdotes from Leliana and other characters. This really just added to the momentous task faced by the Warden, for me, since even one of the current superpowers felt worlds away and semi-fictional. In Inquisition, though, the Herald represents the Andrastian faith whether they like it or not and the base of operations for the Andrastian chantry is the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeux. Orlais for the Herald is a very real place with very real politics that they must have a hand in if the Inquisition is to succeed. Tl;dr, Origins was about building an army, but Inquisition was about building an empire.
crackleviolet, Only because Loghain had the wardens from Orlais stopped at the boarder because of his hate for Orlais. Turns out Loghain was the darkspawns best ally.
My comment was not 'the Orlesians are evil and they didn't help!' and I'm sorry if it came across that way. Actually, we know that Celene's plans to intervene caused a good deal of problems in the Fereldan court because of how close she became during negotiations with Cailan. We know that there are letters from her detailing her plans to help with the war effort at Ostagar. But regardless of how much she planned to help and why this ultimately did not happen (I'm not particularly interested in debating the ethics of Teyrn Loghain), my initial point was that no help came from Orlais-which it didn't, that's a fact- and in the end all we ever got about it was stories. I imagine we would feel very much the same about Antiva or Rivain if they appear in later games, as both so far only exist in a second hand fashion.
+Crackleviolet It's the same thing with Tevinter. You hear terrible things about Tevinter in Origins and 2. Then in Inquisition you meet someone who is actually from Tevinter for the first time. It doesn't seem nearly as bad as it once did after talking with Dorian so much
Whenever I feel bad about having to wear facemask these days, I just imagine that I'm an Orlesian, though the masks we use cover the opposite part of the face than the ones that Orlesians use. And this song helps in building that imagination/self suggestion. LOL But hey, anything goes to survive in these mask wearing season that we're going through, right?
Musically, this plays a very insidious trick on us, worthy of Orlais. The music for Dragon Age: Origins in particular was basically "timeless epic" with a strong streak of Tolkien-ian underscore. And actual Fereldenian music as played in taverns is modelled strongly on what most people think medieval music sounded like. This here cleverly uses a musical anachronism by borrowing heavily from 17th-century French music (the cembalo and string theme could almost be by Charpentier or Lully). In our minds, that basically causes us to automatically think "more modern music, so more developed". You don't even need to see the surroundings to know it will be a far cry from the half-timbered houses of Redcliffe or Denerim.
i don't think i'll ever experience a moment in a video game quite as amazing as Dancing on the ballroom floor with the Gaspards sister while this song was playing, Exchanging remarks. truly a divine moment worthy of Dragon age origins legacy.

+Adrien “Iksiss” Oubreyrie What accent do Orlesians have in the French version?
Hannah Nave Good question. I never played in French Version (just with french subtitles). However i guess they speak with the "Paris Snob accent". It's look like the way Orlesians speak in English, they seem to look down on you... Just imagine this in French. :)
ReinaDCD Thank you :D but in France, it's a source of mokery, we find it horrible. When you listen Orlesians speak, it's the "soft version" of French Accent (they speak english well) but the "Hard version" is a nightmare to understand for English/American people xD
+Adrien “Iksiss” Oubreyrie Wow, I see. Thanks for telling me this. I learned something new today. :P
I really don't like DAI. For many, many reasons, but damn - this one mission and this one theme were amazing.
