No, he doesn't regret leaving her. He regrets hurting her by growing close to her - he knows their relationship was 'doomed' from the beginning but was selfish enough to be with her anyway. Yet despite his regret of hurting her, he cherishes the time he spent with her (the time they were tgt makes him happier than his victories).
He doesn't really say he regrets leaving her, he actually vaguely says that growing close to her was one of his countless regrets - probably because of the pain it caused to both of them, and because it's harder for him to follow with his plans - even though he cherishes that regret.
It's because those memories are regrets that torment him that he wishes to forget. I interpret it as he painted them and then destroyed them in an attempt to get them out of his system. The reason the inquisitor wasn't in the regret memories was because it's a memory he holds onto and cherishes, and doesn't want to forget.
Also, the memories are the same regardless of the background you set for your Inquisitor, so it'd make no sense for leaving Lavellan being a memory panel if you made your Inquisitor Trevelyan, or even a Lavellan that didn't romance Solas.
@@politecat9207 You could just omit the memory it if the inquisitor wasn't a Solasmancer. No different than what they do for other choices like background or romances.
if the inquisitor was friends with solas than solas talks about other people in the inquisition he admired and respected; namely cole, josie and cassandra.
Inky never knew Solas was the Dread Wolf, untill the end. Inky did prove to Solas that people of this world are people though... In Trespasser he did say "You showed me that I was wrong... Again." But it definitely took months for Inquisitor to get Solas' respect, considering the whole game spans over one year and a half. Interestingly in the Inquisition Solas had a completely different world view depending if Inky was on high or low approval. There's no difference in Solas' behaviour in the Veilguard tho. I guess it would be hard to branch it out.
he’s speaking in reference to himself and Elgar’nan. he sees Rook as his ultimate opponent as they challenge his beliefs but also match many of his traits and actions. especially depending on your background. The Inquisitor was never Solas’ rival or even enemy, especially if you romanced him. but even if you didn’t, he was your friend and companion. he has a bond and he regrets the way he treated The Inquisitor. so, yeah, it’s not disrespecting what he had with the inq, it’s illustrating the differences in both dynamics. Rook is to Solas what Solas was to Elgar’nan, an intellectual opponent and challenger. while The Inquisitor was much more aligned with what Felassan was to Solas, a general and bonded friend.
@@MelodyofCelts he even refers to Rook as an “irritant” when they first met. which is exactly the same as what Elgar’nan says, referring to him as a simple “irritating pest”. so when Solas says “and i suppose i had you” he’s saying in in response to how Rook says “he had you” about Elgar’nan needing someone to challenge his beliefs and remind him he is not a god. Rook is Solas’ Solas, reminding him he’s not a god. i love Rook and Solas’ dynamic. but it’s very different than his and the inquisitors lol. and no problem. i love dissecting solas fr
He never really quite says he regrets leaving the inquisitor and notice how he sounds exactly like Elgar'nan, just with a softer voice and more cunning? Definitely earned the title of God of lies. When I played, I was going to save him after learning I could but after this I've really started to listen to the skepticism in me. I'm glad I didn't because he was no different. He is a narc befitting of a god and justifies everything wrong he does. He's not 'saving' his people, he's saving himself. He kept saying he's just a man who knows his faults and yet his last words were 'I'm a god and you're a mortal.' Plus he had it coming for killing Varric.
They definitely character assassinated him with the bad endings. Solas would never say he’s a god his whole idealism was that they weren’t gods. Also he was emotionally abused by Mythal for thousands of years. That’s a lot to unpack 😅
@@AdeleArr I agree, Mythal definitely did emotionally abuse him, but i've played his endings and he does say 'I'm a god and you're but a mortal'. He had his idealism because it fit his narrative and it help manipulate others around him. In the end he reveals he does view himself as a god whether in a moment of anger or not, and i'm not saying he didn't once believe himself just a man who knows his flaws. He definitely does. I agree that none of them were gods, just powerful mages. When I delved into the whole Mythal regret thing it just shows how they all needed a reality check, lol. I wasn't a big fan of the game but I did like some aspects of the lessons. Especially how just because you have power doesn't mean you're better. Corruption will always be in people, just a matter of acknowledging it. I appreciate those who worked hard on making it. I will say this, I did play the secret ending of it and I did appreciate his redemption. Everyone wants a happy ending or at least what we can achieve. I don't want to add too much spoilers in case if someone reads this and hasn't played it through entirely.
Yeah when I watched the bad endings after getting the redemption ending, him calling out he's a god, even in a moment of anger and emotion, seemed a bit off. He was always so against the idea. My best guess is that he just couldn't find the right words in the heat of the moment to try and articulate how unimaginably ignorant Rook was about what they were doing, but he went full circle and became the thing he hated so much. I personally imagine the second he's alone in the Fade and realizes what he said, he adds the fact those words came from his mouth to that regret pile. But it doesn't take them back either way and it did catch me really off guard lol Same confusion with the "I abhor the use of blood magic" line since he says literally the exact opposite in Inquisition? Otherwise though, he seemed like the same Solas just without the "hobo apostate" mask and thus a bit more snark, especially with Rook who already irritated him lol
@AdeleArr I see it as that when he proclaims he's a god, he's not Solas anymore. When he says it, his eyes glow and his voice changes, I think what happened was that he was enraged enough that he basically finished a full transition into Pride in the last moment. It didn't sound like a Solas line because he wasn't Solas anymore.
Actually, in the codex, after Rook meets a romanced Inquisitor for the second time, you can find a heartbreaking letter from Solas to his love where he says that when he removed her vallaslin in DAI, he was about to tell her the truth about him and abandon his whole plans for her 😢 So he does confess that deep down he regrets leaving her. But he would'nt say such a thing to Rook he doesn't really like or care about. That's too intimate ! This conv shoud indeed have been between Solas and Lavellan. Also in DAI, he leaves her because of the elves, he wants to improve their living conditions, restore their immortality (and redeem himself of course). I think they kind of twisted this compelling goal in DAV and made it all about Mythal. It is powerful indeed but his "free the elves" goal got a bit lost. Just like his army of followers at the end of DAI totally disappeared. And that's a shame I think
I made an Inquisitor that romanced Solas. Romance was Ok. But after playing this game, I'm glad my Rook decided to punch him in the face and cut him with the dagger. The Mythal Ending was just so stupid, I had to reload and do the punch one. 😅😅😅 Yet people, for some reason, are still deluded into thinking that Solas deserves "redemption." He doesn't. He doesn't really "love" Lavellan. She is just the rebound girl. The consolation to his ego. His true love is Mythal. He did everything for her, and even to change his mind in the ending, you need the memory of her to do so. And not just any Mythal, the Mythal that he likes, the one that is just like he is. Morrigan's piece inside her is not the one he likes because the guy is an entitled ass. He is no better than the Evanuris. The Mythal you need to convince is a bit less snobbish than they are, but she is still like all of them. Entitled assholes that believe themselves superior to the mortals. The Mythal that lived in the mortal world got humbled and is more helpful. But after seeing all the backstory of the elves, I am left wondering if the Chantry needs to exterminate them. Thanks game, you ruined elves for me, and I always played as an elf. 😂😂😂
It was giving InuYasha vibes to me. For anyone who never watched that anime, there is main love triangle between InuYasha (the protagonist) Kikyo (his dead lover) and Kagome (the reincarnation of Kikyo from “modern day” Japan). InuYasha spends more time with Kagome, more than he ever spent with Kikyo, but the moment Kikyo returns to the plot InuYasha drops everything for her and would often sideline poor Kagome. That’s not the most nuanced summary but that is the overall vibe. Same with Solas, he would have absolutely sacrificed Lavellan if Mythal didn’t show up. And guess what, thanks totally in character for him. Solas would ruin his own life if it meant his horrible choices weren’t done “in vain”, the irony being that he knows they already were. He killed so many of his friends, but he has to make it worth something, otherwise he’s just a monster. I saved him because I obviously have a thing for saving pathetic men (also my Solas loving OC is not a Lavellan or an Inky, she’s just my Inky’s adopted sister who became Solas’ student during her time at Skyhold, plus she wants do right by Varric who wanted to save Solas but she was absolutely prepared to kill Solas if he couldn’t be reasoned with. But best believe my OC is salty that Mythal was what stopped Solas and not the power of their romance that never was because my OC fell for Bull at the time)

Leaving the inquisitor should be a part of his memory regrets but instead everything was focused on Mythal
