❓ What’s the difference between a narrow boat and a double boat as far as what canals you can travel? Maybe like percentage of overall canals you can travel on with a wide beam boat, and also percentage of popular canals that you can still access in a wide beam boat? Because I know there are a lot of very narrow canals but I don’t know how many there are or if they are actually popular.b
My wife's cousin who grew up in Nashville, our home town, but moved to Marseilles after graduating Vanderbilt (in France). He first told us of these floating barges. He added that they were very popular in France.
Love the comment about sailing on Yorkshire Tea! The location of the Yorkshire tea plantations are so secret they do not appear on any map. York is a delightful city. I lived within thirty minutes drive so became very familiar with its attractions, and restaurants.
Been to York a few times and always find myself looking down off the bridges at the wide beams and thinking how fantastic it must be to live on one, thanks for the tour really lovely boat !!
A gorgeous boat with restrictions. A lovely Marina tour, she's a natural at this sort of thing. Two things missing though no row boat and Seagull outboard and no Buddah
Hi Ralph, so glad you enjoyed the tour! It takes time to get all of those things, they were only 3 weeks in here. Back on Alba next week and Zender gets an outing 💜😊
That’s a great boat , when I lived in the UK my back garden used to lead straight onto the Grand Union Cannel towpath . I loved the cut it was like walking into the countryside when living in London . If I ever had to move back to the UK my first choice would be a wide beam . I couldn’t ever live in London again , it was bad enough then , by the looks of things it’s got a whole lot worse . Best regards from Vietnam 🇻🇳
Thanks guys. Really enjoyed your visit to Bails. Another fab vlog. Can’t wait for you to come up again. Maybe a winter one - we’ve got the stove going now! x
Alba is beautiful! Both boats have the same potential for small space living, celebrating the inland waterways of England and connecting with nasture/the seasons.
very nice boat. after watching so many narrowboat vlogs i've decided that i think i'd feel claustrophobic on a narrowboat, so i'd get a widebeam instead. even though that means i couldn't cruise the entire system. though my favorite of all are Dutch Barges. 😁
I love the boat. I could live on that in York. The area is beautiful. Been to York before and walked the whole wall. I will have to come across again when this is all over.
thank you for sharing, what a lovely looking boat out side, then the inside is a whole nother level, out standing layout, great times ahead, all the very best jenny&dave
I love how peaceful the waters are in these videos, normally, I watch "Cruising the Cut", I forget the host's name but he narrates throughout the video, nice chap. I'm going to leave a subb, a thumbs up, and a tap on the bell. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Thanks for that tour guys! Bloody awesome boat! They have fantastic taste in wine - saw a bottle of good old aussie Yellow tail on the counter. Loving your videos.Cheers mate.
stunning boat wow I would still like a narrow boat because you would miss too much Brilliant video again guys as usual, look forward to everyone hope you are well and coping with lockdown 2 xx
Unrelated, but the trawler moored behind your uncle's boat looks like a Grand Banks 42. These are stunning boats, incredibly seaworthy for their size and suitable for coastal cruising.
@@widebeamadventures3485 What fun, that's what they are built for, extended coastal cruising. Fuel burn of the Lehman engines at 9 kn cruising speed is only around 2-3 gallons/hour, so range is not an issue for as long as you don't push them. Here in Canada, people take them all the way to Alaska for the summer, down to Mexico in winter. On the East coast, they go all the way to the Caribbean and beyond. I suspect that in Europe you could easily take one to the Med. They make brilliant liveaboards. My wife would love one, but for me, the sails are missing. Out of curiosity, what's the fuel burn rate per hour on your widebeam?
Hey Andreas our engine is a little smaller (43 hp) and we roughly use a litre of diesel per hour of running in neutral. Going 3-4 mph on a canal is probably not much more (but we don’t know exactly). Sorry can’t be more specific
Very interesting hired a wide beam few years ago on the Kennet and Avon space was fantastic but getting passed all the moored boats was a pain . If based on rivers it makes great sense to have one.
Cant you have access to the both canals and the rivers? I know that the wide beam have restricted access to the canal system due to its size but a lot would be gained if one can use both systems{ rivers and canals}.
That was a very interesting vlog l wasnt expecting that 😁 What a lovely widebeam with all the mod cons and luxury of home, u both would make good sales people the way u showed us around lol 😅 . Does alba sound as bad as it did when it rained in the widebeam? Thank u both for a enjoyable tour 😀 stay safe and see u again next week. Simon💜Xx
Hi Simon, thank you for watching 💜 Yep the rain sounds very similar on Alba, and we absolutely love the sound. We find it very soothing. Have a lovely weekend 💜 xx
:D try standing in a field of green barley sometime in the s[ring when it's out in ear. that's a different motion sickness sensation altogether. I start tottering about if I watch TV standing u[ and it's something like F1 drivers view.
York looks like a wonderful city to tour when we come to England. If you could only recommend 2 or 3 must-see towns/cities, besides London, which would they be?
Hi Marina Myles, different video today but very enjoyable ,very nice wide beam ,but got to say I like yours better you can go round all the water ways wear wide beam cannot, take care keep safe in the second lockdown ,❤️❤️🌹🌹🎅🏻🎅🏻
Hi John, thank you so much for watching till the end!!! We’ve got our heart with Alba too, and isnt it so wonderful to be able to see what other boaters do with a small space? So fun!💜 xxx
What a beautiful boat. As a matter of interest how many leisure batteries does she have to supply all those luxurious electrical appliances? And the space 😱!!!
Hi Keith not sure exactly but the deal is with all of those appliances... when something is power hungry but you only use it for a couple of minutes a day, its doesnt take that much energy. Fridge etc is 12V etc washing machine can be run when moving or running the engine. So you’ll always find a way 😊 Colin and Gin are in a marina for the first winter getting used to living on a boat so they have a few extra appliances they brought from their house. They only just moved too! Hope this helps 💜 x
Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Bails. Had looked at it on the York Marina website earlier this year as I have been considering buying a wide beam for Mrs Mead and I. It’s a beautiful wide beam and Miles Uncle and aunt seem like a lovely couple who I’m sure will have fantastic times in their new home. Recently we viewed some wide beams in person (for the first time) and it was a bit daunting. When you see them “live” they are sooo big. I’m really concerned about my ability to actually steer them. How are the new owners getting on and what advice would they or you give to someone with concerns for manoeuverability? Lovely presentation as always. 👍✅
Thank you 😊. We've had a baptism of fire on the River Ouse - as Myles says in the video, it's a lively stretch of water. The boat is really well balanced and responsive. Bow thrusters help. We were nervous beyond belief when Myles and Marina came up but we're now used to her and feel able to tackle the easier network of canals.
I can see the attraction of a widebeam, but my first question is how does it really differ from a nice flat? I live in a smaller square footage than that, and I'm sure I wouldn't feel as much at home as I might on a narrowboat. Still, it's interesting to compare.
You're right - its got a similar feel to a flat - but it's a flat you can travel around in. We can access the northern and southern networks so plenty to explore. We love narrowboats but wanted something that was an easy transition from our house and can accommodate our children when they visit.
A beautiful craft. It's a shame because of it size, it is restricted from traveling on some canals. But as they say, one has to give a little to get a little.

That’s not a boat, it’s a floating palace 👑
Oh my god what a beautiful home and boat!
Thanks…the wide beam is a whole other thing. ...all the best...Chris 🇨🇦
That's an amazing boat! Thanks for the tour!
Beautiful boat...waaaay too big. First boat I’ve seen with a white interior. Love it!
I live in York, it’s a beautiful city and I can’t imagine living anywhere else in the U.K. 👍
Very cosy narrow boat. Thanks for the tour. South Australia
As a non Boater a wide beam really appeals. Love that boat. Fab insight. Thank you .stay safe guys
Thank you Richard, hope you have a lovely weekend 💜 xx
Wow... Now I'm envious of this boat - the Master bedroom did it for me.. I want the same...

Woah! Wide beeeeeaaam!!! Lush boat. Can’t believe the colour of the water! I really liked the steps going into the bow x
The water travels down from the Yorkshire Moors - lots of peat sediment.

Hi Bob, so sweet that you made the time to watch 🥰 Sending you big, big hugs from across the pond 💜 xx
I. LOVE. THIS BOAT!!!!!
Oh..really amazing boat..!! Looks as còoler than cruise ship😀
I like widebeams but id get too much anxiety knowing I can’t do all the canal networks. I prefer Alba ☺️

For sure narrowboats are not for everyone. You’d still have a huge area to explore in a widebeam though, good luck finding your perfect one 😀💜 xx
I love the boat. I could live on that in York. The area is beautiful. Been to York before and walked the whole wall. I will have to come across again when this is all over.

Thank you so much for watching Hamilton and thank you for your kind words!!! Big hugs 💜 xx
Wine is an integral part of widebeam living 😂
that is awesome tour , and very beautiful boat .
Nice tour. I need a widebeam for the head height, but it does also give you a more 'normalised' way of living.
That galley is fantastic
Amazing kitchen space, I know it's bigger then the narrow boat but seen some vlogs of London flats and this kitchen is bigger then some of theirs.
Oh for sure. So much bigger!
stunning boat wow
I would still like a narrow boat because you would miss too much
Brilliant video again guys as usual, look forward to everyone
hope you are well and coping with lockdown 2 xx
Love York me but in summer season it’s too busy … the best time to feel York is autumn time specially in November when is wet and dark …

@@CruisingAlba That's about what my boat used to burn, when I lived on a narrowboat. About 1-2 litres per hour, depending on wind and water.
Beautiful boat I bet it feel great to be on‼️ I bet it is a handful to handle, have to pay attention at all times.
You're not wrong! But she's really nicely balanced and, once you get used to her, a dream to cruise.
Just gorgeous!!!!!
👍I love it. Thanks for sharing. 😍
👍I’ll check out your other videos as well. 💝
Beautiful. I so want one. Lots of love, from Suffolk
What a beautiful boat if my wife and I were younger I would sell our bricks and mortar tomorrow ,tell the owners a gorgeous wide beam.

Brilliant I think we would need a wide beam not sure we could afford one though xxx
Thank you for watching Karen. We recommend hiring a narrowboat and deciding if you could manage with that. We love ours!
Excellent video!
Lovely boat, great editing, could have done with more Gracie lol.

이 배를 타고 강을 떠나 바다도 갈수 있다면 멋질것 같습니다.
I think it would be cool if we could leave the river and go to the sea on this boat.
Awesome boat!
Wow what a fantastic boat, I want one. Well no not really (I feel sea sick in a hammock) but if I did it would be that one.
Canal boats are pretty heavy and the water doesnt move much so no sea sickness here. I get sea sick on a surfboard so yeah pretty much the same!
She's 36 tons so not a lot moves her around. You could sleep in a hammock on her and not feel a thing 😊
