If you are looking to add some color amoungst your walnut trees, you may also have some luck with the Rudbecika. Many different colors to choose from too.
can junipers tolerate the shade created by the walnut tree?
I have a juniper 20 feet away from 2 mature black walnut trees. It gets a few hours of AM sun but mostly part shade to shade. It does very well and seems to have no ill effects from the walnuts. I estimate it to be 35 years old. The walnuts are much older.
why have a black walnut tree if you can not harvest the nuts that tree has more value than all those scrub bushes added to gather
Recommending a lot of non-natives great.
