I have common milkweed, Virginia creeper, wild grape, mulberry, thriving within 10 feet of a 10 year old black walnut tree. The soil is sandy and generally moist with part shade.
Thanks Elizabeth. Really interesting! I have plenty of Walnut groves and I do notice a lot of poverty grass on our place where the trees are thick. Would love to introduce some oats 👍

Thanks I found this due to finding Spider wort on my place. Right next to one of my many Black Walnuts.
I have at least 150 black walnuts. Been planting Virginia Bluebells under them. They thrive!

Ever observe silphium integrifolium growing near walnuts trees? I have seen sun chokes next to walnut trees.
Right off I can't think of any instances where I've seen Silphium integrifolium near walnuts.
